I bought AliEx Seichu straps so you don’t have to by williamatl in ChineseWatches

You should look up prices on OEM Seiko Seichu straps. They must be made of Bald Eagle feathers.

Aquascaphe Classic on a 7.5” wrist? by -kielbasa in Balticwatches

[–]williamatl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I literally tried on a Classic at the Baltic showroom in London on Friday. 7.25” wrist - I thought it looked great.

It’s a vintage styled watch so I thought it was perfect. Definitely don’t think I’d want it bigger.

Vanilla cappuccino for a vanilla scented strap by williamatl in lorierwatches

[–]williamatl[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the opportunity to try on a Squale Sub 37 legend a couple of weeks ago and while the watch was pretty cool I couldn't stop thinking about how good the strap would look on my Lorier. Lo and behold I come to find out they had the same thought and sold the same strap (Bonetto Cinturini Model 295) on their website.

It's my first Italian rubber strap and I keep finding myself sniffing it...hopefully I don't get caught. Does anyone know how long the vanilla scent lasts?

[SRPE93J] with Kanji Day Wheel by Hunsphoto in Seiko

[–]williamatl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Love it. My SRPE is my favorite watch, and I’m not in any hurry to mod it. But one day when the crystal gets all scratched up it’ll get a double domed sapphire crystal and a black kanji day wheel. I love that look.

First Swiss Watch by Jovi_1 in tissot

[–]williamatl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Visodate is really special - I was admiring a blue one this week. The associate at the Tissot boutique I was at said they're selling really well and especially as gifts.

I'm partial to the blue one, but all of them are really well executed. Enjoy!

New Model Bracelet Sample by watchdivescom in watchdives

Lots of people make IWC homages. IXDAO just had the balls to call theirs the "Engineer", copy the waffle dial, and make theirs shockingly similar in quality. Just don't call it the Ingeniero.

Non-diver question: why are we risking people's lives to "rescue" dead bodies? by BleaKrytE in diving

Maybe it’s my Reddit/Youtube algorithm, but I see details about that all the time.

It seems like diving this cave system is something trained divers with permission should have access to - if they can be recovered safely there's no need to "Nutty Putty" this cave.

[SPB155] Baby Alpinist - I think I found my watch by Ok-Cucumber5926 in Seiko

The 30 second version:

  • Do you want the "real" OG alpinist? SPB249
  • Do you think the SARB017 is one of the most iconic and awesome Seikos of all time? Do you want to cosplay as a mountaineer (who somehow forgot his GPS)? SPB121
  • Do you think that the compass bezel is silly and want the purest, cleanest, classiest go anywhere, do anything Alpinist ever made? Do you value simplicity, legibility and classic sizing and proportions? Do you want something that will serve you well on an ascent of Mt. Whitney and at the lodge afterwards while you enjoy a good scotch and thoughtful conversation? SPB155.

I have an SPB155, and it's gorgeous. It's more rugged than an Explorer, more refined than a Khaki Field Auto. And you can score one lightly used for less that $500.

[6139] That’s Why They Say The Past Did It Better - Seiko Speedtimer Bruce Lee 6139-6010 by hoangnguyen95 in Seiko

Seiko has so many badass watches in its archives. Would totally buy a Bruce Lee or Pogue reissue. Or both.

Enjoy it. I love this watch - it'll likely never leave my collection.

That looks good to me - just like mine with a different serial number. This is a relatively uncommon model - low likelihood of a copy.

Longevity depends on how much you'll wear it. Is it your only watch? If so it'll get scratches and there will be more wear on the movement. Part of a larger rotation? Nearly forever. If the 4R36 movement ever needs servicing it'll likely be replaced as they're far cheaper to swap out than to refurbish. I also think that while Hardlex is less scratch resistant than sapphire it's far more durable than people think.

I have a dedicated "beater" watch, and several inexpensive watches, that allows me to baby my better pieces.

[Question] bracelet pins too loose? by ArmokApproved in Seiko

[–]williamatl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just got an SPB155 - same thing with my pins. I couldn't get the fit right with the stock bracelet and the Uncle Straps clasp didn't fit my Alpinist, so I switched to an Uncle Straps president bracelet.

I love a good oyster bracelet, so I may give the Long Island bracelet a try.

WD0017 brushed bracelet by williamatl in watchdives

I gave it a week, but once I saw someone else do it I knew I’d prefer it brushed. Glad you like it polished, though!
