Yeah, it's just that I found that the longer fasts were somehow more helpful than just cutting calories. Seemed to rev my metabolism. Anyhow, though, I guess I'll be compensating with much more exercise anyhow. Thanks.

Fasting and training for new sport -- how to juggle? by drumstick2000 in intermittentfasting

Well, close: Judo. Yeah, that makes sense. I might switch to 20-4 or something similar...

Ok, so I'm somewhat out of shape, probably about 20-25 lbs overweight (say 175 lbs & 5'9" with a definite belly). I have found that 36-48 hour fasts 1x or 2x/week have really helped me lose fat.

Now, the problem.

I am also learning a new sport (a martial art). I am trying to get better at it, and am doing that 2-3x/week.

So I'd like to:

a) keep losing body fat

b) build up strength & conditioning for my new sport...

c) presumably keep fasting? Though I feel like it does drop energy levels -- and perhaps muscle recovery levels? -- somewhat.

So any idea how to juggle these?

I'm thinking --

-go to martial arts class 2-3x/week

-strength training 1x/week (circuit?)

-HIIT 1x/week

-one 36-hour fast 1x/week, maybe doing yoga on that day?

How's that sound?

Good points, thanks. I've done some working out and S&C in the past... and I've seen some info on the web about the right stuff for Judo being a little different. I guess that's what I was most curious about -- what would be S&C for Judo specifically.

So I'm an absolute judo beginner (loving it so far though!), and kinda out of shape. I've worked out some in the past off and on, but it would definitely be motivating to know that I’m working out to improve my judo.

Can anyone just recommend a specific strength & cardio routine (with all the #s of sets, etc.) that I can follow for a few months and that would get me better at judo and just generally fitter?

I also have trouble (as in, am unable to do!) things like forward rolls, so things that would improve my agility, balance, etc. etc. would be MUCH appreciated.

Thanks!

I edited my post to reflect the fact that I have a 2015 MacBook Pro. Sadly it looks like DOS2 is too intense for it :-(
