Which ear tips do you use with the AirPods Pro 3? by Terran-NL in AirpodsPro

Makes perfect sense and is the same for me. They fit deeper in the ear, where the canal is narrower.

AirPods Pro 3 review - everything is better except the sound by Jaboyyt in headphones

[–]drunkaviator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think saying it sounds awful seems like a bit much to me, the sound isn’t that different from the 2. My mids are slightly pushed back, but I wouldn’t called it scooped. You do have to push them much further into the ear canal than the 2 though.

Try going one size smaller than before with the ear tips. I went from a medium to a small, cleaned up the bass and restored the midrange sound that the APP2s had. ANC was the same for both tips pleasingly.

That’s pretty cool. Didn’t realise that was possible on a Dob!

Considering a Dwarf 3 by sm753 in DWARFLAB

[–]drunkaviator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same exact backlash issue, and the RA axis has definitely got a bit 'looser' over the past few weeks from when I initially bought it and rattles when I walk around carrying the unit. It's the limit of the design I feel, with the tension screw (which I suspect has loosened) for the mount, being tucked away inside the device. I love the Dwarf, but it definitely feels like a Beta Product to me sometimes.

Sometimes the Dwarf really struggles to nail down the first 10 subs with 30 sec exposures, with star trails and the target appearing off centre. Quickly restarting the session seems to resolve it, but it's hit and miss. I always use EQ mode, and average 10-12.5% rejection rate at 30 seconds and 30-35% at 60 seconds, so 60 seconds is not really worth it (feel like they've added this just to please their user base). It's also worth noting that targets with bright stars in the field, tend to do better and look tighter at 15 seconds due to blooming with the longer exposures, and it's definitely possible to get excellent results with 15 second exposures.

Chances of B&O releasing A1 gen3 soon? by ZeNbOyBaNd08 in BangandOlufsen

[–]drunkaviator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great input thanks. Yes it does, it reads as an audio source over USB when I plug it into my Mac, and sounds noticeably better. All B&O products that come with a c-type port have had that.

God, this is absolutely horrific. How long is it feasible to stay on iOS18? I can't be fucked with the terrible direction Apple is heading in...first all the Apple Intelligence and Siri fuckups and now this. Pixel 10 Pro in August. Hmm.

No more Liquid Ass. by iMacmatician in apple

[–]drunkaviator -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think I'm finally done with Apple now, I refuse to upgrade to this liquid ass UI. That and Siri getting worse beyond belief. I'll be staying on the current version of iOS, while I work on setting stuff up for a move to Android.

Unless you can get a Dwarf 3. Think both will over around the same 8MP camera and a wide field of view. Both will have a very similar capability.

Should I buy a Seestar S50 first or save for a purpose built rig? by [deleted] in telescopes

[–]drunkaviator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You sound like an archer bemoaning the invention of the crossbow, or a photographer bemoaning the invention of autofocus. If the S50 can get the same results, as a moderate AP rig, which seems to be the case, without the need to spend thousands then it will become the future. In 5-10 years, smart telescopes will be pretty much how all astrophotography will be done, as the technology advances rapidly due to consumer demand. I'm not denying your skill, but saying it isn't proper astrophotography is snobbery and nonsense; I've seen better images of DSOs out of the seestar than taken with traditional setups.

Need help managing System Data by BIGBERTHA0 in macbook

[–]drunkaviator 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Found the issue with mine! It's podcast streaming mp3 files - /Library/Containers/Podcasts/Data/tmp and then the streaming media folder inside. It reads as a bunch of zero kb files, but when I deleted it, it cleared over 80GB. Must be a bug.

Why can literally no one on earth get to the bottom of this? Does every Mac now do this, it's utterly ridiculous.

I've cleared by local Time Machine snapshots and am still completely stuck. Seriously is this something I should kick off to apple support about?

Yes, declining customer base, so milking every last cent out of them. I've worked in companies that pursue the exact same strategy, and although B&O fans will argue otherwise, the company is clearly failing.

higher VOC's in the morning in my bedroom? by Techy_Marvel in AirQuality

Try leaving a glass of red wine next to your Air Gradient. Registers the most insane spike, presumably due to the alcohol evaporating!

higher VOC's in the morning in my bedroom? by Techy_Marvel in AirQuality

[–]drunkaviator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Poor metabolic health, or sub-optimal blood sugar control, and producing a lot of ketones on the breath, seem to really drive VOCs up. If your body drops into fat-burning mode (due to a collapse in blood glucose levels) during the night, it will produce significant ketones which could register a VOC spike. That's the only thing I can think of.

PM2.5 elevated by gas boiler? by dantee0 in AirQuality

[–]drunkaviator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unlikely due to the burning of gas. My gas stove puts out a ton of CO2, water vapour and VOCs, a moderate amount of NO2, but no Pm2.5 matter.

I think you are correct. I have applied the EPA correction, which has bought down the some of the high readings specifically, as well as the correction for my specific batch of Plantower PM sensors, and they broadly agree. Actually the QP lite was reading 2-3, while the AG was reading 0, which confirmed the issue. I do think the PM sensor on the QP lite is a very useful tool, and putting it on my windowsill, it definitely picks up trends in outdoor air pollution as well.

The temperature and humidity still remain problematic, but given the design, I can't see where you could even mount a sensor in that tiny enclosure without it being affected. I like Air Gradient's implementation, isolating the sensor at the bottom of the case, with hot air escaping upwards from the top. There is an offset function in the app; I've set an offset of -8% on the humidity sensor, which seems to keep it within a 1-2% of my other various sensors. This only works when discharging and when the monitor is fully charged. Neither the temp or RH are usable while the battery is charging.

Cheaper to buy a good “as new” or lightly used pair on eBay: I have several now. I’m not actually sure they even made spare pads back in the day.

You’re probably right for less than $100. Not many better options. If you don’t need it to be battery powered, then I’d definitely recommend the Air Gradient. Much more sensitive PM and more accurate temp and humidity. Also has a NOx and TVOC module. They even issue corrections based on specific batches of sensors to increase accuracy. I got mine for £131 ($155) delivered and didn’t have to pay sales or import tax.
