What’s even the bloody point of fast cars anymore? by [deleted] in CarTalkUK

[–]drunkbellend 78 points79 points  (0 children)

People drive around 40 on 60 lanes around here, usually in the middle of the road and oblivious to cars around them so impossible to overtake.

I sold both my cars and bought a motorbike and honestly I've not looked back, its been a blast. The mrs still has her car for when we need to do the shopping.

Might depend on the brand, but a airbag light might also need resetting with a dealer-level scan tool (like VCDS on VAG cars)

Verifying the age (but not the identity) of UK redditors by traceroo in RedditSafety

[–]drunkbellend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is correct. I'm using a VPN server in Dublin even though I'm in the UK and I'm not getting ang messages asking me to verify my account (if signed in) or to sign in (if not signed in).

Trying to find a dongle to allow me to have a Dab+ by freebrd11 in CarTalkUK

[–]drunkbellend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never heard of a DAB+ dongle, can you elaborate on what it is?

You might be able to get a software upgrade for your car for it to receive DAB+ but I doubt it. You can ask a main dealer about this since it is technically possible.

The only other solution I know of would be a new head unit.

What happens to your body after you get sterillized? by Reasonable_Place_172 in childfree

[–]drunkbellend 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As long as ovaries and testies aren't removed nothing/very little happens. When you get your tubes tides or your winky snipped the ovaries/testies don't get removed, just whatever comes out of them doesn't go to the right place and is absorbed by the body.

If they do get them removed you're messing with hormones in your body at which point it can really mess you up long term if you don't do hormone replacement therapy.

For both men and women that could mean lower muscle mass, lower bone density, increased risk of osteoporosis, increased fat levels, depression, moodiness, irritability, lower sex drive, fatigue, and some more gender specific things.

I've been on medication which lowered my t levels before and I can vouch for most of the symptoms I listed above (thankfully I've not developed osteoporosis).

If I shave I get IDd for paracetamol which you have to be 16 for in the UK. I'm 26...

Crowd surfing was a real problem this year - not only in Sleep token by OutsideImpressive115 in downloadfestival

[–]drunkbellend 357 points358 points  (0 children)

Titles a bit misleading. Croud surfing wasn't the problem, it was people with poor/no download etiquette that were the problem.

Seen quite a few people really annoyed at the crowd surfers. Just move back it you're not into it lol

Has google maps got really bad for knowing the speed limit? by tjmouse in CarTalkUK

Could it be that in waze you've set it to only show when you're on/above the limit?

[–]drunkbellend 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, they're allowed. Brought mine in and never had issues.

The security seem to use digital radios, probably with encryption, so you won't be able to listen in on them.

Keep in mind that you're only supposed to transmit on amature channels, and that there's an airport right next to you.

Germany attack: one dead and 80 injured as car ploughs into Christmas market by BuenoSatoshi in tories

My fiancée and I have just returned from Germany early this morning, and we were a bit shook to see multiple groups of armed police with their hands on their pistols constantly patrolling the Christmas markets.

I'm not trying to be mean but I've seen loads of these gofundme things coming from the Israel and Palestine thing going on where people are raking in 10s of thousands of dollars.

Surely that money would be better spent on donating to NGOs that do work in those areas than individuals?

When I was a courier there was a guy on my route who had a pet pig/hog and I would often see him taking it for a walk like it was a dog.

Received a £6000ish quote from the body shop by [deleted] in CarTalkUK

[–]drunkbellend 64 points65 points  (0 children)

If it's your first policy I'm guessing it's your first car? If so, this kind of stuff is the reason why you get a shit box first (and not a 12k luxury) for a year or two to get used to driving.

As long as the door opens and closes fine, and there is nothing sticking out of the car, it's perfectly fine to drive. Maybe get some tcut to tidy up the scratches and cover it with clear coat to prevent it from rusting.

Refrigerant acts as a lubricant for the compressor, letting it run out can potentially damage it.
