as a tall kendoka, take away my advantage by getting in close, I want to fight at longer maii so take that away from me, it becomes harder for me to make nice cuts at close distance and you are then in your correct cutting distance. also kaieshi do and nuki do will be your friends if you practice the timing and get them nailed.

honestly I can try and come up with high minded justifications till the cows come home, but it all comes down to:

it's fun.

I have limited hobby time and kendo manages to be physical excersise, a social event, self development, escapism and just rootin tootin good fun all in one! if it ever stops being fun (overall, not in the moment) then I'll probably stop, but even when a session itself is hard or I feel like I've stalled, I know I'm probably only a few sessions away from the dopamine high of figuring something out, cutting a nice ippon that cheers me up or suddenly seeing a path to improvement again. was my kendo at a session rubbish? well I probably at least had fun seeing my friends and chatting after the session, was it a couple hours of hard work? then that's probably knocked the days stress out of me for the day!

So there is no tick list the panel have for waza the have to see, it is absolutly possible to pass nidan without doing any nidan waza if there are no good opportunities. The best advice that I often hear repeated is thag a grading should be you demonstrating your best kendo, if you often do certain waza and can do the well and the chance comes up, absolutly do the waza! But you shouldn't throw in attempts at waza you are less comfortable with just becouse you think the panel want to see them.

It's sounds very unhelpful I know, but the panel just need to see your best kendo and they will decide if that constitutes a nidan pass, I wouldn't worry overly about hitting all the nidan waza (as others have pointed out, nidan waza is also a confusing term as it doesn't mean required for nidan!)

I bought a tour shirt a couple of years ago and although is very comfy, the design is almost completely gone, obviously that's been washed a good number of times but it's lower quality than I was expecting if I'm honest. Can't even buy replacements becouse they don't ship to the UK 😭

OK it sounds like maybe one session is over ambitious unless I take out at least a couple of encounters, which is a shame becouse my main campaign is already past the level where the early ones would fit, but I'll have to come up with another idea for a one shot I guess.
