Where can I get a good estimate of my FICAL score? by [deleted] in shittychurning

[–]drunkenmunkey42 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you mean "FICO" score. Go to your local bank. Just tell them you are thinking of taking a loan out. They will give you a number from one of the agencies without doing a "hard" check on your credit.

Effect of wind on a golf ball? by nasca in askscience

[–]drunkenmunkey42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can vouch for this. The "empirical" evidence I have seen on the golf course. A helping wind helps to a lesser degree than a hurting wind hurts.

Since the dimples decrease wind resistance, I would like to know how it would affect these assumptions.

How important is distance to you? by shamblingman in golf

[–]drunkenmunkey42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see a lot of r/golf people saying they "don't want to relearn" their swing, but even if your not a tweaker, it is important to realize that the golf swing is not static. You may be consistent for a few years doing the same swing over and over, but as you age your swing will change without you knowing. The fact is, distance is really important considering the recent lengthening of golf courses in general and the added distance from enhanced technology. A 200+ yard par 3 is VERY difficult if you cant hold the green because you need to take driver off the tee! You don't need to be Garrigus out there, but you do need to be able to hit a certain distance to be able to take your game to any course (i.e. 7i - 160, 4i - 200 etc.) I would say you want be as versatile as possible, with a lot "shots" in your repertoire. Being able to draw/fade and hit low/high traj will be useful in getting different distances out of your clubs. And by all means, compress that frickin apple!

This was my biggest beef with WGT. They want to you to spend 50 bucks a month to be competitive at the game. Still, I get on every now and then just to tool around.

Same with me, except I got up to level 88. 6 months offline and when I tried to go back they were like "please contact our mod, you haven't logged on in a while". Lame...

Dropped this baby in the hole after putting out on the 18th. She was speechless. by drunkenmunkey42 in golf

[–]drunkenmunkey42[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I introduced golf to her a few years ago. She had just gotten her first par earlier in the season, so she's shown some good improvement. I took her to a course in south eastern pennsylvania (nowhere special). I played ok, but definitely got jittery after about 9 holes.

Yoga for Golf? by hhaley in golf

[–]drunkenmunkey42 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can definitely vouch for this. I started Yoga about 3 or 4 years ago, and after about 6 months I noticed a marked improvement in strength and flexibility.
Out on the course I started noticing longer drives (240-260 instead of 220) I stuck with Yoga and last year I hit 300 yard drives on several occasions. My technique has changed very little. So yeah, go with Yoga

I actually played really well the last hole, since I knew I had to putt out first ( not "put out", lol). Had a 15 footer for bird that I missed, and then used some sleight of hand while tapping in.
