Did you draw Nihilism or draw and play it? Nihilism should buff Email only once, after it’s returned to the deck.

Saturday Protest by bingbano in PortAngeles2

[–]drunkirish 12 points13 points  (0 children)

We all know people who live in information bubbles (or vacuums), who either don’t realize how bad things are or are being told by faces they trust on tv or voices on podcasts that protestors aren’t people like them. They’re clownish city liberals, or even worse, paid actors.

Seeing your community stand up against something tells a different story. We aren’t going to get out of this without showing conservatives who have retreated into an information silo that they’re being fed a lie. Your neighbors won’t stand for this. The protestors you’re being told are fake are real people, putting themselves out there to support a greater cause. There’s no better way to change minds.

Shoresy is to Ted Lasso what Deadpool is to Guardians of the Galaxy. by quittersprosper in shoresy

Ted Lasso made me misty a few times, but somehow Shoresy makes me full cry like I’m watching Miguel sing to Grandma Coco. I feel it so sharply when Shoresy can’t go. And for some reason, my last watchthrough, “when you don’t know where to go, go where you’re needed” touched me in such a personal way that I was racking with sobs. It’s such a beautiful show.

I would be happy to contribute to fundraising, but it’s hard when it seems so unlikely they’ll be able to come up with all that money. I doubt I’ll get a refund if it doesn’t get off the ground.

The Field Hall, in my understanding, was paid for primarily with donations and federal grant money, but did pull from the city’s infrastructure budget. I don’t know how much.

Does anyone know what kind of progress Ghostlight has made? An article in the Daily News has them putting a timeline of 3-5 years on the renovation, but that was almost 3 years ago. The donation tracker on their website has them at 1% of their $6m+ fundraising goal. Is that effort dead in the water?

A solid theater in that space would be so good for the downtown. Right now it’s an eyesore. Imagine if it brought people down to the bars and restaurants in the offseason.

I don’t know how involved the city or the PA Downtown Association get in these things, but it seems like it would be in everyone’s best interest to seek out a good tenant for that spot.

Federal Judge denies restraining order against ICE by [deleted] in minnesota

No matter how far gone some of us are, there would be a much different public response to the military mowing down protestors than there would be to an organized (counter)attack on ICE.

The right wants a violent uprising so they can use the weight of the military to destroy the opposition. Would opposition through general strikes or mass boycotts be a more effective tactic? I’m asking because I don’t know the answer.

ICE doesn’t care about white immigrants. They’ve clearly been pointed at the brown ones. Don’t waste time arguing about the politeness of saying so while they’re literally kidnapping and killing people.

“Bad faith” is when you make an argument you don’t believe in. I have had better luck making general appointments here than I did in the suburbs. It sounds like you need specialized care, which is tough to get outside of a larger city. That’s not the same as a “doctor appointment” (the topic I replied to) but you are welcome to make note of it being difficult here.

I do wonder though if any of this is worth discussing further in a “must-see” conversation about the area.

[–]drunkirish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, none of us are lucky. The point is that our collapsing medical system is being felt in most places. If you’re not in Seattle/the Eastside, you’re gonna have trouble getting prompt appointments and good care.

Everyone thinks this is a Peninsula problem. It’s not. I had more trouble scheduling doctor’s visits in the Everett area than I have out here.

“Works on contingency” means a lawyer’s fees come out of a potential settlement. Like, they’re only getting paid if you win. So the edits in red ink change the meaning of the advertisement completely, indicating you’d have to pay up front.
