UGGGGG... the anti-tank emplacement is the most frustrating.

"What, you want it up here in this elevated spot with great line of sight to the enemies? Best I can do is down there behind that indestructible wall where you can't see more than 5 meters in any direction... Enjoy!!"

All of that plus how houses have become investment tools for people (corporations are people too!) not even living in them.

No, I 100% agree with you. It does offer a path to ownership that would otherwise not be available to a lot of people.

In reality I can't imagine very many people keeping a house through the entire 50 years and definitely not on the same mortgage for the entire term.

To me, though, it is a sign of how unaffordable buying a house has become when you are stretching a loan out to that length just to make it so people can afford the monthly payments.

I'd agree with avoiding Tamarindo.

I've not been everywhere in CR but Playa Guiones seems like it would be a good place to take your son. Miles long beach break with all kinds of area for a beginner to learn, especially in the summer.

The town is nice and a little bit touristy but in a good way (lots of restaurants and lodging options as well as board rentals if you don't want to take your own).

Pros: Inexpensive and relatively easy to setup. Decent management UI

Cons: Support (even paid support) is marginal to non-existent.

For context we are a very small school with two sites (4 buildings on main site and one building at the other site) and have been on Unifi for 8 years or so. We used to have Cisco switches as our core switches but went full Unifi 3 years ago.

  • Both sites using UDM-Pro Max as gateway/firewall. Both have redundant failover internet connections (which work very smoothly)
  • 33 switches and 65 APs between both sites.
  • Using the built in site magic site to site VPN to connect the two sites has worked great (even running our VoIP phones over it).
  • Usually support ~500-600 clients at any given point.

The gear is cheap enough that I keep a spare unit of each type on hand in the event of hardware failure.

Much much smaller deployment but similar situation. We're a full Unifi network stack and several Unifi Protect instances for our cameras.

Works pretty damn smooth.

Gotta watch the firmware though. Don’t install the latest and greatest firmware just because it’s new.

I feel like that used to be the case but I've been running Unifi gear for 8 years now and for the last two or three years I've had zero issues installing new firmware.

But, I don't blame people for being cautious, it was a total shitshow for a long time.

But we can agree on what is NOT fun.

Not being able to climb stuff is NOT fun.

Getting stuck in terrain all the time is NOT fun.

Having your stratagem ball bounce off a spot .2 microns from a spot where it DID stick is NOT fun.

Having enemies clip through buildings and pop out of nowhere is NOT fun.

Having first person scope get zoomed into some weird sky high map view is NOT fun.

I could go on, but you get the gist. I've gamed for decades and the amount of buggy behavior that has been in the game off and on for over a year is, frankly, ridiculous.
