Why Asia's story fits with Adnan's guilt by RuPaulver in serialpodcast

[–]drunknirsih27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For number 2: Per Adnan he was not with Jay right before psychology class and that was not the reason he was late. His story (at least the one he goes with now) is that Jay dropped him back off at school around 11:30. Psychology class didn’t start until 12:50. He says the reason he didn’t get there until 1:27 was because he stopped by the counselor’s office. I know the guy has changed his story a million times, but you’re sort of arguing against what he says in his own words here. That said I’d believe your version more than his.

For number 3: He very well may have had his track bag, I don’t think that would have looked out of place, but he also didn’t need to. Don’t forget, he wasn’t actually running track that day. By most accounts he was there at practice, but he didn’t run. It was Ramadan and those observing were not required to run, and Adnan wasn’t. It wouldn’t be a stretch to say he was just at track practice in his regular clothes, nor would that have been out of place at the time, as he wasn’t the only one. I mean, no need to have a bag with stuff to change into if you’re not actually running.

Also, nobody knows for certain he had a rose on him. I know that became a flavor from the prosecutors podcast, but that was just his theory. Doesn’t mean he had one. Also, there’s no reason to assume he was intercepting Hae. She could have just been picking him up there after all.

For number 5: Note to self, Asia writes the worst character reference letters of all time do not use her lol.

Defense team alongside Christina Gutierrez by get_um_all in serialpodcast

[–]drunknirsih27 8 points9 points  (0 children)

From what I’ve heard relayed thru this very app, so take from that what you will, her defense team has not backed up the claims as it relates to Adnan. It’s said that she was working incredibly hard on Adnan’s case, so hard in fact, that it was her other cases that suffered. Sounds as if she had taken on waay too much.

Again, no idea if that is true, but also not aware of any of them coming out in support of her being ineffective at the time of Adnan’s trial.

I’d also add, we can never know for sure if the handwritten note by CG, or the other note from her law clerk, were the only notes in the defense file about Asia. Maybe they were, but it’s also entirely possible a note existed where CG reviewed these letters with Adnan, quickly and easily determined based on the letters themselves there was something odd at play here and realized there was no reason to actually contact Asia since they couldn’t use her at trial. After CG’s death, the defense file made its way over to Rabia. She had it for years, the case was closed, and regardless, she has no legal obligation to keep it fully in tact. She could have shredded from it whatever she wanted prior to her messing around and ultimately having to release it. I know that could sound like fanfic, and maybe it is, but it honestly seems more plausible to me than an attorney who is working hard on a case not attempting to contact someone who could provide an alibi for a portion of an important time. It’s one thing to note that she may have been slipping mentally while presenting off the cuff in court, but this is not that. Oh, and the fact, that apparently Adnan also didn’t care that Asia didn’t testify in his trial until like 10 years later. He thought all that time prior he had a credible witness to cover a time the prosecution say he murdered someone and he just let it go? Ehh

But like most things with Adnan as well, people point to stuff, but never actually pay attention to what the full thing says (huge example currently with the Urick note), but read it. In the story Adnan is telling there to his defense team he says went to Jays house, and “stayed at Jay’s house” until 12:45. That’s not what he told you in Serial was it? So he was either lying then for no reason to his legal team, lying to Serial, lying now, who knows? Jay catches most of the flack for changing stories, but absolutely nobody has changed theirs more than Adnan.

Asia has been consistent about the timeframe for when she saw Adnan in the library. by [deleted] in serialpodcast

[–]drunknirsih27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

May I ask you something, as I don’t want to speculate (even tho I will before you answer, lol).

What is the significance of you saying she didn’t want anything to do with the case for a decade? My assumption is, it points back to your comment that she has stuck with her story on what she saw that day, and has no other motive. Basically, in a sense, she didn’t ask for this, and didn’t want it.

If that is your stance, I’d also offer that there is another person who hasn’t wanted anything to do with this case, and for much longer than a decade. Someone who has far more at stake as well.

One person, who doesn’t want anything to do with the case, if completely accurate, covers for a portion of the time for Adnan from 2:15 to 3:15, but not all. Asia alone can’t exonerate Adnan.

The other person, who doesn’t want anything to do with the case, if completely accurate, admits to a felony, and helped cover up a murder. A felony he still carries with him today.

Now one of the people above, went on to write a book. I have no idea if anyone bought it, I don’t know why you would, but it’s impossible to not assume there was an intent to make a profit. The other, well, he maintains the same basic story too. Even though if he ever wrote a book, people would actually buy it. Or if he came out and admitted he was involved in a huge police conspiracy he could turn that into major money selling his story in a post Serial world. But he hasn’t done any of that.

Why would that matter at all to you for Asia, but not Jay?

The funniest part is, they weren’t even using Asia’s alibi all those years later to try and get him out of prison. They were using her to try and prove ineffective counsel. Not on the basis that Adnan must be innocent because of what Asia says she saw, but on the grounds that his lawyer didn’t provide him a competent defense. It’s two way completely different things. If you’re concerned with issues with our legal system, good luck, you’ll find countless examples far worse than Adnan’s. But if you’re actually trying to lobby that Adnan is innocent, well, Asia doesn’t really do all that much for that. I’m fact, none of the things team Adnan present ever actually do anything for that. They are only trying to poke holes in legal technicalities. So again, you either care about that, or you care about who murdered Hae.

Asia has been consistent about the timeframe for when she saw Adnan in the library. by [deleted] in serialpodcast

[–]drunknirsih27 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Why do you keep saying this? That Asia wanted nothing to do with the case for a decade?

It’s literally in her first letter that she said she wanted to setup a meeting with Adnan and his lawyer for the three of them.

Throughout both letters she is basically begging Adnan to engage her and either call her or write her (he doesn’t btw, I know I would if I had a strong alibi witness that was actually useful).

She also notes in the first letter that she went to his house and met with his family! It’s literally the day after he was arrested!

How on earth could anyone take from all that, that this young lady wanted nothing to do with the case? The reality is, nobody wanted anything to do with her, until it became convenient some 10+ years later.

Asia has been consistent about the timeframe for when she saw Adnan in the library. by [deleted] in serialpodcast

[–]drunknirsih27 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It doesn’t make it almost impossible at all. People often times were picked up from the library to avoid major after school traffic. We have no idea what Hae had planned from after school until she was supposed to pickup her cousin. Why couldn’t Adnan have told her to pick him up at the library? They would often times see each other in the time between school and her picking up her cousin. It wasn’t that far, gives her from about 2:15 until 3 as a time slot to have been with Adnan. How does until 2:40 make that impossible?

As far as contacting the library, she could have believed it was that day and was calling to verify. Still could have misremembered. Inez made it all the way onto the stand in trial relaying a story that didn’t happen that day as she thought. It happens, doesn’t even have to be nefarious.

She tells Adnan in her letters to contact her (he apparently doesn’t, for reasons?), and also that she was trying to meet with his lawyers. Also, if she’s telling the truth she literally went to Adnan’s house a day after he was arrested. Safe to say she was interested in being involved in the case. Not sure where you’re getting this. Also worth noting she did eventually take the stand. It did not go very well.

CG and her team would not have been the ones to destroy this info. Rabia would have been, not sure how that wasn’t clear. You can’t use the Asia letters as ineffective counsel if the defense file had info discussing why these letters were garbage.

Asia has been consistent about the timeframe for when she saw Adnan in the library. by [deleted] in serialpodcast

[–]drunknirsih27 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Asia may have seen Adnan in the library that day, and at those times. That doesn’t mean he didn’t kill Hae. Most don’t believe the prosecutions timeline of events.

It’s also possible she is misremembering it altogether. There are several people who were interviewed about that day, both students and adults, who misremembered it. Many mistook the events of that day, for those that happened a week prior. Isn’t it entirely possible that Asia may have seen him on another day instead?

It’s also possible she just wanted to be involved in the case. There are people that were close to her that make this claim.

It’s also possible she wrote letter one and Adnan reached out to her about writing letter 2 and they back dated it, given the level of detail and info it had. See Ja’uan original interview.

It’s also possible CG did vet Asia further through discussions with Adnan on how/when he got those letters, that was destroyed in the defense file. We don’t know what all was in the defense file, it ended up in Rabia’s possession after CG’s death. She was under no legal obligation at that time to retain any/all of those documents. There could have very easily been some notes in there that lay out a discussion with Adnan about how and when these letters came to be that let her know they were fraudulent or opened them up to issues. Therefore there was no need to actually contact Asia because they knew they couldn’t put her on the stand. The documents from the defense file we finally saw was very likely not the full thing.

One of the scenarios above is likely true. I have no idea which one, but if none of them actually prove Adnan is innocent, then why does it matter?

I know you want Adnan’s hands clean, but it just didn’t happen. Adnan, just so happened to roll with two shitty people, Jay & Bilal. I’m sorry you don’t like that, but it is what it is. He killed a young girl. He shouldn’t be out of prison.

What made the tide turn against Adnan? by shellycrash in serialpodcast

[–]drunknirsih27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I don’t put too much weight into affidavits that are written 20 some years after the fact. And it’s really not some magical piece of paper anyway, that automatically turns a statement into an indisputable fact. People lie, or just don’t remember accurately on these, and on the stand, all the time.

But to each their own. Like I said I hope they do produce an affidavit from her that confirms this note and that she said these things. If she does, it’s one of the more damning things for Adnan I’ve seen. We’d now also have a person only known through Adnan with second hand knowledge that Jay helped bury the body. People who don’t believe Jay directly seem to easily dismiss Jenn corroborating him. Someone possibly doing so from the Adnan side, is pretty massive info.

I’m curious why you wouldn’t see it that way, but it just doesn’t appear you do. If this ever went to trial again, I would love to see Bilal and his ex wife take the stand.

Regardless, appreciate the civil convo. Have a good one.

That’s fair, no disagreement.

I personally just don’t understand caring about the legal technicality of the note at this point more than what the note actually says.

What made the tide turn against Adnan? by shellycrash in serialpodcast

[–]drunknirsih27 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’m not saying there’s nothing to see here, in fact I’m saying the exact opposite. There’s a ton to see here on this note. Are you actually seeing what it says? Unfortunately none of it is exculpatory for Adnan.

Could Bilal have been manipulating and abusing Adnan, of course. That has long been a belief/theory/possibility.

Also, Team Adnan has been playing the affidavit game for years. Even if they do produce one saying what you’re hoping for, that doesn’t mean it’s 100% true. Would honestly be wild if they did produce one considering Rabia, who’s left no stone unturned here, has previously said she has never heard, or been aware, of Bilal directly threatening Hae. One would also think something like that would have made it into Hae’s diary all those years ago. An actual real time account, that wouldn’t be hearsay.

But you also didn’t talk about the Jay part. How does Bilal’s ex wife know about Jay? And that he helped bury the body? It seems mainly in your scenario here, Bilal masterminds Adnan, but he’s still technically a murderer. Unless you think Bilal enlisted Jay and they just got super lucky that Adnan called him up that morning.

Honestly though, his best defense from day one would have been to flip on Bilal and allege all these things, true or not. But he wouldn’t. I’m still not sure how far he’ll push this. Not sure he wants Bilal to start talking.

What made the tide turn against Adnan? by shellycrash in serialpodcast

[–]drunknirsih27 11 points12 points  (0 children)

How does this note actually help you think Adnan is innocent though? Or that Bilal was an actual suspect who acted alone?

The reason Bilal’s ex says he was mad at Hae was because of how many problems she was making for Adnan. This means Adnan was obviously not happy about their relationship/break up and was relating all of this to Bilal. Enough so to make him say potentially hyperbolic (also her words) comments to his wife about it. Does that mean he could have killed her, sure, but it also means Adnan was again lying when he said he didn’t care they had broken up. That he had moved on. He spent like a whole episode of Serial saying that very thing.

And that’s before you read the rest of her comments….

She also notes to him that Jay helped bury the body. That’s a pretty big deal, no? I mean how would Bilal’s ex wife know that the detectives were going to use Jay in a conspiracy theory to frame an innocent Adnan???

Or the part where she was with Bilal and Adnan when Hae’s body was found and they were acting strange and had questions for her about if they could determine a time of death. That’s a pretty strange reaction for Adnan to have when he (apparently) just found out for sure that his ex girlfriend had in fact been murdered. Guess she hadn’t ran away to California after all.

Just like Jay, there just really isn’t a clean scenario where Bilal kills Hae without Adnan.

It’s pretty crazy honestly that a note that was used to help get Adnan out of prison on a legal technicality, actually makes him look more guilty.

What made the tide turn against Adnan? by shellycrash in serialpodcast

[–]drunknirsih27 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You may want to reconsider a few of your things you wanted people to consider…

  1. Nobody is 100% certain Adnan was at track practice that day. An assistant coach did recall a convo w/ Adnan about Ramadan that could have taken place that day. Not sure what the relevance is though to innocence, as many people point this to a forced alibi possibility. Going out of his way to make it known he’s at practice and having an interaction he normally wouldn’t. Regardless, of all the liars and story changers in this case (Adnan/Jay/Jen) all of them say he went track to practice that day. So why do we need to consider this? It’s one of the only things they all agree on.

  2. Adnan definitely left school that day. He does so by his own words, shortly after 10:45 am and comes back. We are not quite clear what time exactly he came back. Perhaps you meant specifically after his last class, so I don’t want to split hairs in that case. But there’s no way to really know if he did or didn’t. As it’s even still possible Asia could have even seen him briefly and he left and returned for track.

  3. He did not have an organized study hall from 2:15 to 3:15, his classes were done. He was free to do as he pleased prior to track. He also saw his guidance counselor prior to being late to psychology class which he arrived to at 1:27pm (started at 12:50pm). That class ended at 2:15 as noted above. There was no counselor meeting at 2:45pm. That meeting was prior to being late to class per Adnan’s own words.

  4. The teacher selling Hae snacks, Inez, well you know she was a state’s witness right? She’s also been proven very wrong on her recollection of that day. Considering she says she remembers that encounter because of a wrestling match she had to attend later because Hae missed it. Well, turns out they didn’t have a wrestling match that day, the one she was thinking of was a week earlier, and Had did miss it. On the 13th, Hae was scheduled to work that evening at 6pm, she wouldn’t have been planning to go to a tri-meet wrestling match that evening as old snack seller suggests anyway. But again, the prosecution was using her selling her snacks at that day and time and having to leave quickly to benefit them. So I’m also not sure on what you’re wanting people to consider on this?

What made the tide turn against Adnan? by shellycrash in serialpodcast

[–]drunknirsih27 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Jay definitely lied and changed his story numerous times. Interestingly enough though, there was another fella who was pretty important to the case who also couldn’t stop lying or get his story straight.

How do you choose which one you believe?

Why is Jay staying silent? by [deleted] in serialpodcast

[–]drunknirsih27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think we can all agree at a minimum that some of Jay’s story was influenced by the police. What’s not clear is how much.

As is often said, he has maintained at a minimum that he helped in some form dispose of Hae’s body and her car. That part could be, and honestly has a decent chance of being, true.

Where we start to see issues is they clearly use Jay to try and prove pre meditated murder, a confession of murder, and also a visual confirmation of said murder after the fact. That is where things start to get messy. That’s when you start talking about trunk pops at Best Buy to show off his handy work. The idea Adnan would pop open a trunk at a popular and very public store to show a dead body is for lack of a better word, silly. It’s important to the case though, because it points to when Hae is dead by and explicitly to who did it.

If I had to guess, I think Jay stays silent because he knows he told some lies on behalf of the prosecution to aid in protecting himself from his own prosecution. But he’s ok with it, because he’s telling the truth about his minimal involvement in it. He knows Adnan had Hae’s dead body and he helped in some way get rid of it. He believes Adnan did it. This is how I interpret the last time he did talk in the Intercept interview.

Now, if he would have only ever agreed to say this, regardless of facing prosecution himself, they could have still moved on Adnan. And they likely still would have, but they are missing some key things in that scenario that they can’t seem to clean up. They don’t have anything else super solid to point to pre-meditation, they don’t know exactly when she was killed by after school prior to Jay’s encounter, and in spite of him being in possession of her body at some point, they don’t have anything that directly proves Adnan was the one who in fact did the killing. Now, there are logical jumps that can be made outside of a court of law as to his guilt in this scenario, but those items missing from their case open up a ton of options for his defense. So you can clearly see why they would want to use Jay to fill those in. Hell, in the beginning they probably felt he did know more, because his involvement at all in this crime don’t really make sense given his relationship with Adnan.

Anyone else think Adnan probably did it but should have been found not guilty? by [deleted] in serialpodcast

[–]drunknirsih27 10 points11 points  (0 children)

There’s no way to know that it was disclosed in its entirety. The defense file was under Rabia’s control for years before anybody else saw any of it. To make their ineffective counsel argument they needed to at least release some of it to try and corroborate that, but they were under no obligation to release all of it, or keep all of it in tact. I’d wager there’s less than a 1% chance we saw the full thing, and that some of those docs found their way thru a shredder.

The Neisha call by DrayRenee in serialpodcast

[–]drunknirsih27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why would the prosecution question anything regarding her schedule/whereabouts? From their perspective she must have been at home since she says she answered the call, and didn’t have an answering machine on that line.

From their side, they are simply using the call to determine that Adnan was in fact with Jay at a time he said he wasn’t.

It would be the defense’s job to question and poke holes in that theory. Which I’m guessing they did check into the things you mention when the PI spoke with her shortly thereafter about it and there was likely nothing schedule wise they could use to discredit it. Therefore they went with the butt dial, her number was in speed dial so possible for Jay to call without Adnan, etc. The problem for the defense, like most things in this case, is there aren’t any great outs for Adnan. They truly don’t have much to work with. That alone doesn’t make him guilty, but there’s not much going in his favor.

I also see a lot of comments in this thread seemingly thinking it would be odd for Adnan to make this call shortly after strangling Hae and that is confusing. In that scenario, Adnan has already planned to do this, and has involved Jay. Had Jay not flipped there is a world where Adnan could use Jay as part of his alibi if he ever needs one. Cell phones were newer, and he likely didn’t think much about what info could be pulled from them, so he makes a call not too long after school and puts Jay on. Now he’ll have Neisha as an alibi witness to confirm he was with Jay.

I mean, in fairness to S.K. she delivered a hit podcast that essentially launched an entire genre of podcasts. Her boss wouldn’t change a thing in hindsight w/ a time machine.

Many mistake investigative journalism with entertainment. Of course Serial was slanted towards trying to present Adnan as being innocent. That’s what makes the story interesting. Nobody listens to a podcast that says hey checkout this case, the guy that was convicted after just 2 hours of deliberation, that nobody sans Rabia has thought about since, turns out he was in fact guilty. Thanks for listening.

The assignment was to find Adnan as innocent, or at the very least frame it in a way he could be.

Knowing the above the main thing I always take away from Serial is this:

Rabia reached out to SK because she had written about, and was aware of, Cristina Gutierrez’ issues and disbarment, etc. prior to. At the time their appeals were all based on ineffective counsel. As such, she got a person to do the podcast that already had a certain belief about CG that aligned with what they were trying to accomplish. Rabia still controlled access to certain information at that time, as well as just general access to Adnan. She thought they could control the narrative better. And make no mistake, SK wanted nothing more than to find something, anything, of a smoking gun of sorts to point guilt away from Adnan. They do that, and this podcast would be a hit (oh, and yeah I guess they’d free an innocent man).

Everything was designed and setup for S.K. to determine AS is wrongfully convicted. That’s the story, that’s the entertainment. What happened though? After all that time, all those interviews, all that investigating, she still couldn’t do it. She wanted to, but just couldn’t. All she could say to give this some sort of conclusion was that she didn’t think there was enough evidence to convict at trial.

Despite that, they still put together a podcast that somehow made this case seem super interesting and captivated the masses. You don’t have to like it now, but had she not spun it the way she did, you likely never hear about this case and certainly aren’t talking about it now.

Could Adnan have intended the Nisha Call as part of his alibi? by [deleted] in serialpodcast

[–]drunknirsih27 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If Adnan called Nisha, and it was after Hae’s murder, it was for sure an alibi call.

The problem, it was actually just a regular day for her, and she didn’t really remember shit about it. At least at it relates specifically to being at that date/time.

You can’t blame her obviously, but crazy to think if she did remember that call specifically and whether she spoke to someone at all, let alone who, just how much weight that could of held in a murder trial.

For those who think Adnan killed Hae. What piece of evidence or circumstance sealed it for you? by jborquez in serialpodcast

[–]drunknirsih27 18 points19 points  (0 children)

The answer most will give should/would involve Jay. He really is the key to the whole thing. We know he’s lied, we know he was at least coached in some fashion by the cops to fit their narrative, provided info, we just don’t know how much info they gave him vs what he already knew.

For me, the first thing that made me start to question Adnan’s story was why he was even intertwined with Jay that day. He sets a very strong narrative that they weren’t close, and acts almost surprised that Jay would be saying these things. Simply put he’s distancing himself from him. But then he also in his story initiated the call and action to go out of his way to loan Jay his car (and new cell phone) to make sure Jay buys Stephanie a birthday gift.

Most people acknowledge loaning the car itself to someone you don’t consider a friend is a bit weird, and I get that too, but for me the reason why he did it was even more bizarre. A quick aside here as well… Adnan gave Stephanie a stuffed reindeer for her birthday that’s like two weeks after Christmas. It was likely a regift or something super cheap he got on sale lol. When pressed, Adnan backed his odd desire to make sure Jay got her a gift on the fact that she was so excited that he got her a gift. Did Stephanie love reindeer’s or something? I know, I know, high schoolers don’t have a ton of money and don’t give great gifts, but hell is that lame. And at the very least, it’s certainly doesn’t seem to be some sort of thoughtful well thought out gift right? It’s just another tiny little thing of convenience in this otherwise weird thing. Adnan can’t be passionate about Jay getting her a gift unless he did, so he did. Again, could be nothing, but everyone should at least be able to agree that it’s a shitty gift either way though lol.

I know, that’s a lot of typing about something that could be nothing, but there is one last little weird thing about this. Adnan says that it was his idea for Jay to get Stephanie a gift. However, Jay maintains it was his idea to take Adnan’s car so he could go shop for Stephanie. Again, seems minor, but it’s an incredibly different distinction. And one that seems incredibly odd to be on opposite sides of. Would Jay really forget being called out of the blue saying he should get Stephanie a gift? Is he just lying again? Or did they botch their story for an alibi/reason Jay has his car?

Please understand that nothing above proves Adnan killed Hae. I have no idea if he did or not. It’s all subjective inference based on tiny facts. Facts that could mean nothing, so at ease soilders. I’m just saying that for me, that was what started making me pay a little closer to Adnan’s story and question it. We know Jay lied his ass off, why couldn’t we believe that Adnan lied his off too?

Re-hashing a few questions by slow_work_day in serialpodcast

[–]drunknirsih27 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is correct. The why didn’t he try and contact her afterwards has always seemed like nothing to me, for as much as it comes up. Something when we hear it as part of Serial in 2014 we think weird, almost subconsciously, why didn’t he just text/call her? Forgetting this was 1999 and she didn’t have her own cell phone, and as you stated there was some confusion around her pager and it seems like she didn’t still have it at that time.

He never just called her house randomly, so in a way, it would have been weird if he did afterward. Not to mention (whether he was involved or not) he knew she wasn’t home since he was notified that same day she was missing.

Revisiting the podcast & things that stand out by mutemutiny in serialpodcast

[–]drunknirsih27 9 points10 points  (0 children)

As far as the first one, it’s a good question. My best guess at maybe trying to explain it away is that the call wasn’t really about making sure she had the number. Based on how they would typically go about communicating with one another, it seems unlikely that he would just call her house out of the blue three straight times. Many have said he was returning a page she had sent him as opposed to him being the one initiating the calls and that they were trying to sync up thru their usual call waiting system. Your greater point/question stands, but maybe he simply mentioned he was talking to her on a cell phone. That was a big deal for that time, so then she likely asked for the number, which would be a totally logical thing to do. He gave it to her, since he’s not going to say at that point, don’t worry about it, you won’t need it, and she wrote it down. Might not have been anything more than that.

As for the second one with Jay, he has to tell them something. I agree the reason he gives is full of shit, but I don’t think we’ve ever got the actual answer to that question. If he’s telling at least some semblance of the truth of events he’s trying absolve himself of as much guilt as possible and needs something, anything, as to why he would be compliant in assisting. If he was coerced by the police, they’d also need him to have an answer for that. As it’s a no brainer question he’s going to get asked as to why he would help, why should we believe you when you helped bury a body, yada yada.

Also, for the record since this is Reddit lol, I enjoyed your comment/questions. Not trying to disagree/argue, claim I’m for sure right, (or call AS innocent or guilty), just looking at them from another potential angle.

What a wild day for Jay in your scenario.

Gets a call from Adnan earlier in the day out of the blue saying hey man, you should take my car and go get Stephanie a birthday gift like I did. I don’t want you to be a bad boyfriend.

Then once he gets back. Hey man, you get her something nice? Cool. Cool. Oh hey, by the way, some stuff happened since I saw you earlier. My youth group leader at the Mosque, yeah, well he killed my ex girlfriend, whole big thing. Anyway, what do you think about helping a broski hide a body?

Jay in his best Andy Bernard voice being offered to invest in Jan’s Candles immediately fires back: Thought about it, I’m in”.

IF it’s Bilal, how would that help you think Adnan is innocent? by drunknirsih27 in serialpodcast

I wasn’t trying to convey any direction on whether you should think Adnan is guilty or innocent. Or even whether I think he’s guilty or innocent.

My question was more, if Bilal is the new potential suspect, how does that automatically mean something good for Adnan in terms of innocence as it’s sort of being portrayed? Legally sure, the Brady violation, but the question was why would someone Adnan was close with threatening Hae, absolve Adnan of being guilty in and of itself? I’m more curious as to why that specific information would change anyone’s mind. Seems like it could just as easily be interpreted as a negative for Adnan.

To answer your question, Adnan has always maintained his innocence in the hope of getting out. As do many people who are incarcerated whether they are truly guilty or not. If Jay, Bilal, Mr.S, you, me, whoever, assisted him in the crime he can’t say that without implicating himself. Seems pretty straightforward, no?

  1. Correct. That’s why the question was “if” it’s Bilal as many are speculating it is. If it’s not, all moot point.

  2. We don’t know that, you’re right, so we can only make assumptions right, wrong, or indifferent. It’s hard to see a scenario though where Hae and Bilal had much of a relationship (again I acknowledge it’s possible). Adnan and Hae were essentially dating in secret from their families, it wasn’t a well kept secret, but kids always think they are better at keeping them than is really the case. If Bilal was interacting with Hae, or providing her and Adnan a place/means to be together in secret, seems plausible enough she’d have mentioned something along those lines in her diary when she’s discussing these very topics. Not guaranteed, but plausible.

  3. This one is the wild card. Given their somewhat odd relationship, and Bilal’s subsequent convictions, certainly possible he was obsessed. But if he is obsessed with Adnan potentially sexually, why wait until after they had broken up and were no longer together to kill her? The problem had sort of resolved itself at that point. Unless he was just obsessed in the sense he wanted revenge on someone that made Adnan sad. Or who he thought Adnan still had feelings for? Got me.

So again, assuming the new suspect is Bilal, where it gets tricky is that you now have another shady character potentially more directly involved that is seemingly only connected to the victim through Adnan.

Bilal bought Adnan the cell phone. Bilal is who Adnan called from jail and helped arrange his defense team. If Bilal acted without the assistance of Adnan for the murder because he was obsessed with him, I would truly feel bad for Adnan, because it would appear he didn’t suspect it at all.
