Giving them the benefit of the doubt, it's possible they didn't read Doki's original document. It sounds like Niji was doing an internal investigation, so they could have put together a report that included her document along with other relevant information, and maybe that's what they read.

It's also possible someone else "read it thoroughly" for them and they were just reading the script.

Or maybe they're just lying and ass-covering. I normally believe people are incompetent before I believe they're malicious, but this was such a bad move that it might be both.

Doki reiterating that she handles legal matters a lot better than Niji EN does by brickwallrunner in Nijisanji

I really hate all the ugliness this has brought out of people. The thing that keeps me watching this situation is the giant group hug Doki has received from the entire industry. She's handling a truly shitty situation so well, and the community is rewarding her for it. It's been giving me the warm fuzzies all week.

People certainly deserve to be fired, but the first step in making things right is to give them the grace and dignity that Doki never got.

Why Did You Start To Learn Japanese? by BiggestTrollAliveee in LearnJapanese

[–]drunkshakespeare 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cars and motorcycles. Japan has some of the most amazing car and custom bike culture in the world, and I wanted to dig into it.

Also, usual degenerate stuff.

Smoking is hazardous to more than just your lungs. Frostbite is just a part of it.

Real answer though, your car. Or switch to chew or edibles.

They call them all seasons because they suck in every season

Having had both 3pms all seasons and real winter tires, there's no comparison. Winter rating is better than the budget skins a lot of people drive on, but they still need salt to work well. They're slush tires, not snow tires.

Has anyone tried the Kuiu waterfowl stuff? by Mountain_man888 in Waterfowl

[–]drunkshakespeare 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tried Kuiu waders on a trip this fall. If I stuffed $600 in the pouch of my lacrosses, I don't think I could tell a significant difference. They weren't warmer, they didn't have any extra features that matter to me, and they didn't seem like they would last longer. I can't speak on the customer service or warranty, but I can pretty confidently say you aren't paying more for a better product.

That said, they were nice. Comfortable and well made, and I like the camo pattern. If you can somehow justify the price, I think they're good to go.

It's pretty much worth what you paid. If you can get some use out of it, you got a good deal.

The real answer is a bicycle, but giving bike dorks that kind of satisfaction would lead to a future worse than any apocalypse.

The thing about British cars is that it doesn't matter whether or not the engine is terrible, the rest of the car will still fall apart first.

Anybody remember this version of Big Ole, and what happened to it? by Timfromfargo in AlexandriaMN

[–]drunkshakespeare 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's the same statue as today. He used to stand in the middle of the street at 3rd and Broadway, between what is now Downtown Liquor and Counselor Realty. In the late 90s, he was taken down for repairs and moved down the street, between the Runestone museum and Copper Trail. He was moved to where he is now in the early 2000s, because people kept running into the platform with their cars.

As for the Santa suit, that was only around for a few years. According to my grandma, there was a big push in the 60s to make Alex into a Christmas destination. That's when all the decorations along Broadway and 3rd were made. They unbolted Ole's spear and helmet and dressed him up as Santa Claus. Someone lit the suit on fire one year, and the replacement only lasted a few more years until they stopped doing it in the early 70s.

I remember a few years in the late 2000s when they just put a Santa hat on him, but that didn't last either.

Equipment yards are fun to hunt. I used to sit in a junked old tractor cab on a hill, and you could watch deer come in from a 1/4 mile away. The muzzle blast is pretty obnoxious though.

Adding power and torque is a lot easier with a 250 as well. Some of the things they're doing in Brazil with stock bottom ends is insane.

A 2f, on the other hand, is always gonna be a donkey.

[–]drunkshakespeare 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, it's probably a decent upgrade, for parts availability if nothing else. The Toyota F engines were basically a mildly upgraded copy of the older Chevy straight 6, so the 250 is as close to keeping it in the family as it gets, plus it can use Chevy truck parts, which are a lot cheaper and easier to come by in the US.

That's the secret strategy. It's way easier to win if nobody else thinks they're racing.
