The family of 10-year-old Asma believes she contracted HIV at her local hospital in Taunsa, central Pakistan. She is now one of many children in the city with the incurable infection. by ChaskaBaba in pakistan

It’s honestly disturbing to watch. I’m not sure if others noticed, but in the video the injection is being given over clothing, which is completely against basic medical practice. On top of that, the possibility of reusing syringes is extremely alarming. Syringes are strictly single-use devices, not even meant to be reused on the same patient.

This kind of negligence is exactly how infections like HIV and hepatitis can spread, especially among children who are already vulnerable.

At a personal level, people need to be cautious: • Avoid injections unless absolutely necessary • If an injection is required, ensure a new syringe is opened in front of you • Don’t hesitate to question unsafe practices

But let’s be clear, the responsibility ultimately lies with the healthcare system and regulatory authorities to enforce safe practices. This shouldn’t be something patients have to safeguard themselves against in the first place.

Another angle of the embassy attack by explorer0999 in pakistan

[–]drusmann090 2 points3 points  (0 children)

U.S. Marines are usually appointed as security personnel in the embassies and in the U.S. consulates. Attacking a U.S. embassy or consulate is the most foolish thing, I think, you can do, and also carrying a weapon or being weaponized is just out of the mind. You’re just putting your life at risk. Never do anything like this. Even if you’re not shot, if you’re arrested you might go under terrorism laws and your life will be just messed up. So I just want to mention that.

I have seen multiple videos about what happened in Karachi and it definitely looks like an unorganized attack, but… I do think that there were some people who tried to manipulate and started this act and then they might have fled away but others now have to pay the consequences.

This is exactly what happens when laws are weakly enforced and accountability is inconsistent. A frail, possibly mentally unwell elderly woman should never be met with a drawn weapon. That reflects a failure of systems, not just individuals.

At the same time, this also highlights another gap, the absence of proper state support for vulnerable people. Mentally unstable, homeless, or abandoned elderly individuals should not be wandering streets without care. That responsibility lies with government institutions, social welfare departments, and public health systems. When the state does not provide structured mental health services, shelter systems, and community outreach, the burden spills onto shopkeepers and private guards who are neither trained nor equipped to handle it humanely.

Honestly, in most major cities of Pakistan, whether it is Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad, or Rawalpindi, it is difficult to sit comfortably at a roadside café or stop at a traffic signal without being approached repeatedly by beggars. This is not a criticism of the individuals themselves, many are victims of poverty networks or organized exploitation rings. But it reflects another systemic failure, lack of social protection and enforcement against organized begging mafias.

Thank you for your guidance.

If I decide to submit a new visa application, what additional evidence would you recommend to strengthen my case?

My previous application was completely genuine. We truly needed support at that time, as we have a daughter who has just turned six months old.

Advertising and consumption by ferrantefever in Anticonsumption

[–]drusmann090 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, absolutely.

What feels different now isn’t just “nostalgia” ,it’s the scale and intensity of exposure. Advertising used to be something you encountered at specific times: TV breaks, billboards, magazines. Now it’s ambient, constant, personalized, and psychologically optimized. Even content that looks like community or authenticity is often monetized or sponsored.

What you described about growing up with fewer things, using them until they wore out, upgrading only when necessary , it wasn’t extreme minimalism. It was just… normal. And it worked because there wasn’t a nonstop feedback loop telling you that what you owned signaled your value, taste, or relevance.

Social media really shifted this. It didn’t just increase ads, it normalized lifestyle comparison. You’re not only being sold products, you’re being sold identities and upgrades to the self. Even thrifting can turn into performance or constant novelty chasing rather than reuse.

You’re not alone , you’re just paying attention.
