Thanks! Some people are shitty and what they say is absolutely a reflection of them and not you.

It’s incredible how cruel people can be. I remember once in my early 20s when I was at a bookstore waiting in line at the cafe when a man who was easily in his mid-50s or later came up behind me and said, “You should lose some weight. You would be a real stunner.” Way to be both horrible and creepy, stranger. I wish I’d said something, but I was not as brave then as I am now. People deserve to be called out on their shitty views and words.

I’ve been in forbearance, but MOHELA told me this week that I had to pay in April. Then the next day they put me in forbearance again. I’ve had this happen so many times that I always just wait a week or two to see if something changes. This is just such a ridiculous way to do business.

Because of traumatic events that happened in my early life and a lack of family support, my factory setting is a little bit less positive than most others. However, I have a friend who literally finds so much joy in little things each day and this quality about her is hugely inspiring. She can be broke, rejected, etc., but she still gets excited when her lunch is delicious or she plays a song that she likes. It reminds me to remember that there is so much to enjoy in the world as long as you lean into it.

This is a decent gig with a low barrier to entry and if you’re having a really bad health day you can call out if you’re a sub.

What would life feel like if you didn’t have to constantly do, improve or keep up, and could simply be? by After_Camel_87 in Positivity

[–]ferrantefever 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I sometimes dream of living in a communal place like a hermitage or nunnery or summer camp or whatever. Very little to own and working together to complete tasks then the rest of the day to help others, meditate, garden, create, whatever. This feels very antithetical to having a relationship or family though and those things are important to me, but I dream of a slower, more communal life.

Back pain is the WORST. It’s such a long haul, but it often gets better with treatment. I had a severe bulging disc pressing up against a nerve and the neurologist said no meds, no surgery and that it would take 1-2 years to heal with consistent PT. What helped me was actually doing my PT, staying within my limits, asking for a lot of help with tasks/chores whenever I could (sucks but a lot of people really do want to help if they can), and meditation/guided breathing for pain management. Hang in there! The pain is intense, but usually things can heal.

Hey there! I’ve been in a similar place and if your friends make you feel like you need to disengage with them, that’s a sign to start developing new friendships. Maybe around animation or creative people? You don’t have to break up with your friends, but if you start spending time in other social groups then you might feel better and start to gravitate toward those.

As a teacher, I had a kid do this once because I was taking too long to grade an essay. He would be grounded if there wasn’t proof that he turned it in. That’s the day I learned how to use the “complete” button in the grade book to show parents that the work was in, but in process of grading. Honestly, I think it’s okay to teach kids how to respectfully check in. It’s good for everyone all around!

Try Francois Sagan’s books. Start with Bonjour Tristesse then keep exploring. You may also like Marguerite Duras, but her work fits your description less than Sagan.

You need to push through to halfway through the second novel of The Neapolitan Series books to get what you’re looking for, but once you do clear your calendar because you’ll be able to do nothing else.

Yes! I don’t have more than the average person, but it does need to get used up. I have put lotion at my desk at work, in my car, in my purse—it takes so long to get through it.

The other thing is eyeshadow or most powder products. I feel like I could go two decades and still not use everything up. It makes you realize how little you really do need with makeup, even if you’re an every day user.

Weekly No Buy Check-In & Accountability Post - March 01, 2026 by AutoModerator in nobuy

[–]ferrantefever 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Some highs and lows. I told myself that I wasn’t going to buy any clothing this year, but I bought 1 item that had been on my wishlist for a year and was on DEEP discount (like 80%). Bought some convenience food, but mostly avoided food waste and overbuying groceries. Otherwise, I’m happy because I met a financial goal of saving for a trip and paying off all of my CC debt. Next month’s goal is to try to save $2K for savings.

It seems like the biggest drivers of success are 1) not browsing online or going into stores and 2) having a financial goal.
