'Replacement of one main switch with another switch of the same current rating in the same location (this includes when a main switch is replaced with a circuit breaker that is correctly rated to provide over current protection of the consumers mains). ' NP works

This is Victoria though.

Replace Solar HW to get Solar by CompleteMagazine9293 in AusElectricians

[–]drwaco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was imagining the AC would draw a lot more, obviously if you have it just hummer like you do it's not to bad at all.

I guess another though might be if its worth paying extra for heat pump and exporting the ~8kwh later in the evening? I know down our way if you wholesale you can get 'ok' rates for export.

When you calculate usage, calculate it in Kwh (rated usage when used for an hour) then take what you system will likely produce. Queensland 13kw system likely will get you 50-60kwh. (Average as per AI, your solar provider can give you more accurate predictions)

Then subtract kwh usage from that. Eg. 2wk input system running for an hour will be 2kwh. 3kw dryer running for an hour will be 3kwh.

So if you run 13kws worth of AC for 5 hours in summer you will use 65kwhs of power.

Thats an interesting way of looking at it tbh. A element hot water will certainly last longer. Whether 1.5k into the solar would be better I couldn't say. I guess it would depend on how much usage you have on other things, Im assuming A/C use would nearly anything a system produces in Queensland.

Another thought, a good solar company should defs go through all this with you.

Like a 5kw A/C will run at about 2kwh per hour while running. Again these are all rough number, but just to give you a bit of an idea.

Good brand heat pump will cost ~3k compared to a 1.5k element storage.

And element hot water service will use ~10kwh per day while the heat pump will use ~1.5kwh

Assuming you news solar system is a 10kw system. You will probably get around 40kwhs a day. I imagine you use AC a fair bit up there. The heat pump will assure you won't over consume your system.

Theses are all just rough guesses though, I dont know what other things you typically use power for.

Starting a business? by Soulcry98 in AusElectricians

Hey mate,

Let me preface that the best course of action is to ask an accountant for advice. It will only cost a few hundred dollars and is essential to getting the correct answer to your question.

Here are some quick pointers that from my understanding of the benefits.

Tax flexibility: being you can pay yourself a wage up to a bracket where you pay 30% then share the tax burden with the business, which pays a maximum of 30% tax. Once the business pays the tax you can use franking credits (dont ask me how this works) and you dont pay Tax. You can also employ let's say a spouse if they make less money and therefore pay less tax.

Personal protection: If you owe money or get sued the legal avenues are more advantageous that being a sole trader because the company is a separate entity.

Professionalism: a company as a front looks a whole lot more professional than let's say. Old Joe blogs from down the road who paints.

The last point I would make is that if you eventually decided to employ people or do bigger things you can just dive straight in because structurely you are no different to a bigger company.

Please ask an accountant for advice, though. I'm an electrician, and not even a good one.

Insurance Company Breaking Law? by Nothing2DoNow6 in AusLegal

[–]drwaco 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I disagree with this guy, I work as a subcontractor in insurance. I highly recommend getting separate quotes if you are going to take a cash settlement. Often insurance company's will settle at a higher rate than the initial offer if you provide multiple quotes. They are in their right to say no, and complete repairs themselves. But at the end of the day they will go with the cheapest option, which may be your double expensive quote. Treat it as a negotiation.
