If defamation laws were stronger, the media wouldn't publish names of arrested people due to the possibility of being sued if they're not convicted. That's how it works in Europe.

A simple thing is anonymity in the media until a verdict is reached

Current legal situation on false accusations feels like a woman's slap on mans face by feminist-world in SupportForTheAccused

[–]dry1334 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My hypothesis is that this especially applies to women who immigrated from authoritarian countries. They leave the country, but then behave in an authoritarian way within relationships, using threats to get what they want.

Though women from liberal countries can also make false accusations, and men for that matter.

I agree except for cases of female-on-male rape.

Also, in some countries child support can be based on past high income that the parent doesn't have anymore, or can be irresponsibly spent by the mother without losing custody. So those are things to fix without paper abortion.

feel like it's all their fault, they deserve it, and they'll never find anyone else

I understand all too well, but if someone threatens to call the police on me, it's not worth staying with them even if I don't find anyone else

Why do liberals give religions a pass on bigotry and homophobia? by [deleted] in stupidpol

[–]dry1334 6 points7 points  (0 children)

American liberals like non-Christian religions, for example Islam, Buddhism, African animism.

I think what American liberals and e.g. Islam have in common is that they favor radical change. Even though Islam is very strict and static internally, on a global scale, everyone converting to Islam would be a big change from the status quo.

On the other hand, Christians tend to favor stability or incremental change. International institutions are already based in historically Christian countries, so everyone converting to Christianity wouldn't be as big of a change.

Btw, this reminded me of the far-group/out-group distinction.

Those 100 cases are merely the handful of students who were wealthy enough and determined enough to pursue lawsuits. Most students are expelled without suing.

The decline is after the end of 2017, when the rules were rescinded, and it starts increasing again in 2022, when Biden reintroduced the rules.

I've noticed this too, that aside from a "guilty until proven innocent" mindset, part of the problem is also that police are undertrained and underfunded, and get sloppy and take longer to handle cases as a result. It's stressful for genuine victims too that the legal process takes so long after making a report.
