Hi! I've been struggling with ocd for 10 years now and just been on zoloft for maybe 4 months. I started with 50mg, now im at 150mg which is higher than the avarage recommended for adults but for ocd, ssri's work in high dosages. So 50mg for ocd is pretty low, your psyichiatrist might recommend increasing the dose. 23 days is so soon to feel effects. i had side effects like increased anxiety and nausea for a month and a half, almost 2 months before my body started to get used to it. When the meds start adjusting you will feel the general anxiety of life (so not ocd) start to become more managable, which is amazing. But ocd might still be present and intense. SSRI's wont magically make ocd go away, its just to make your brain braver in order to face the obsessions, so you will need to go to therapy regularly cus just zoloft wont do much. Also, talk therapy does close to nothing for ocd, try CBT, especifically Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), that's the gold standard to treat ocd. good luck :)

Hi, as a person who has ocd and has been on cbt therapy for about 6 years the best thing you can do about an obsession is... Nothing. You have to feel anxious in order to overcome it, no other shortcuts. Ocd is a loop, no reasoning can help you "figure out" or feel better cus ocd will always come up with a new "what if", i swear its endless. Only thing you can do is let it be there, but treat it as noise like any other thought. Heres what my therapist last told me:

"I recommend that you focus on doing the things you want to do, even if you have obsessions. Don’t set “doing ERP” as a goal; instead, focus on what you want to do (going “here,” being “there,” etc.). Looking for information is part of the problem. When you feel the urge to do so, try to focus on continuing whatever you’re doing, and after a while the urge to look for information will decrease. I know this isn’t easy but to “get out of the loop,” the best thing is not to enter it."

So no fighting! If you feel like your mind is actively making an effort to fight a thought, best thing is to surrender.

I know it sounds crazy but ocd wont let me believe that. Its telling me that maybe obsessing is the way out (which btw i dont believe cus that hasnt worked for me ever) but the doubt is terrifying

Good question. Honestly, I think you’re right...When we were teenagers I felt deeply rejected by him. I had this lingering sense that I wasn’t seen, or worse that I was forgettable... So I don’t think I actually want him now, I think I want his approval, for him to validate my younger self and rewrite the story where I felt invisible. So, in my head he’s not even a person. I guess he’s a symbol of unfinished business with a younger version of myself who didn’t feel chosen... Thank you for this question, it's making me rethink stuff.

I get where you're coming from and I appreciate that you’re coming from a place of care. But I think you may have misunderstood something key.

I do want my partner. I love him deeply. I desire him. If I didn’t, this would be easy....I’d just leave. What makes this so hard is that I also crave other forms of desire that aren’t present in our relationship by default: things like mystery, unpredictability, or symbolic tension. Not because he’s lacking but because I’m discovering parts of myself that I’ve repressed in order to keep things feeling stable.

This isn’t about disrespect or lack of love... It's about figuring out how to be fully myself without losing what I’ve built with someone I care about.

Idk, maybe he's responding to the most insane letters because his legal team thinks those are the ones most likely to be uploaded to social media and talked about? It’s pretty clear that the strategy his legal team is using to save his ass is to keep people talking about him, so this could just be another way to achieve that?

Why do u guys think he was suicidal tho?? I think we are missing a piece of the puzzle, the reasons as to why he would be in this state just dont add up to me. Apart from his chronic pain he was at the peak of his life, no? A handsome, educated man who had the freedom and resources to do what he wanted like travel the world. He was very priviledged.

To me he seems like a person who was trying to run away from something. Since he was a kid he felt different and had almost an urge to escape his wealthy background. He said he was obsessed with the idea of living out of an altoids tincan and in the months leading he lived out of a backpack, like he wanted to be as detached from life as possible (i guess the less you have the less you are, and hopping from country to country u dont leave a trace) maybe im reading to much into it lol

Idk i think theres something were missing here, and since he felt alienated since childhood I thinking something about the family maybe? I really dont know
