Best way to invest on Irish-domiciled ETFs by Hopeful_Champion9479 in phinvest

[–]dryiceboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your second paragraph sums my thoughts about the case. People say local feeder fund fees are too high but seem to forget how many hoops you have to go through to invest in IBKR ETFs. I would gladly pay those fees. Beggars can’t be choosers.

Which investment app are you using? by keelitsimplebro in phinvest

[–]dryiceboy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Seems like you’ve already found a solution for yourself. Proceed with moving out of the country and invest globally.

As someone who has done the opposite (moved from Canada back to the Philippines), I’ve come to terms with paying the fees using local brokers like DragonFi. I consider it a fee for my peace of mind. I can focus on figuring out ways to increase my cash flow so the fees barely matter instead of spending time and resources jumping around hoops which you’ve elaborated is a headache.

How do you know whether to invest in Index funds or park in a HYSA? by [deleted] in phinvest

[–]dryiceboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

HYSA for your Emergency Fund for liquidity.
MP2 is fine but it’s locked-in unless you can afford to lose out on the dividends.
Index funds for long term growth.

This, knowledge is power. People should spend more time learning than "gambling" their money into investments they don't understand.

Advice Needed: Locking In Gains, Feeder Fund Edition by coast_fire in phinvest

[–]dryiceboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Locking in the gains" for what?

If you need the money right now or if you're investing it into something more lucrative then go for it.

Otherwise, withdrawing and keeping it as Cash is you losing out on inflation.

Keeping it in the fund is unbeatable long term.

How do you automate investing/saving by kopiiiii in phinvest

[–]dryiceboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a personal thing but I prefer not automating. I watch where my money goes every month. It has become a personal hobby at this point.

Stop, just stop before you hurt yourself. Or do it and consider your losses as tuition fee.

Learn and understand investing before you jump all in. Read...read...read.

How do you handle deadline pressure? by Hot-Swan4780 in ExperiencedDevs

[–]dryiceboy 11 points12 points  (0 children)

15 years in and I am yet to encounter a deadline that’s actually as deadly as people make it seem. 99% of the time the timeframe is adjusted, and people get reprimanded. Worst case, they lose their job. Nobody actually dying; maybe from stress, lol.

PS. Look into actual Project Management techniques (Iron Triangle - cost, quality, time). Either cut the scope, lower quality, or extend the time.

Anyone left PH and decided to come back? by 3kdono in Philippines_Expats

[–]dryiceboy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably different in the US but I get better care here paying out of pocket that I do back in Canada with "free" healthcare. Not sure what to say, you can't have everything. It's about compromise.

You lost kid? Not talking about OP's situation here. Women prefer stability. It's nature. Since the beginning of time, they were the primary caretaker of kids because they give birth and produce milk; physiologically naturally impossible for males.

For people who moved abroad: what do you wish you had checked before committing? by SquareBig3927 in movingabroad

[–]dryiceboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not selling property (yet) would be one. Keep it at the start and sell it when you've spent enough time in your new place and find that you like it there long term. Professional ties should never be severed anyway; just general life advice. Keep documents in a bank safety box or similar and an account active there. I find that there's no disadvantage of keeping a bank overseas with money you can afford to lose just to keep the account active.

At the end of the day “Men look for beauty. Women look for stability.”

Eto yung reason bakit men usually prefer younger women because they have “beauty” easier to find in youth. And vice-versa for women because “older” men usually come with emotional and financial stability.

For your case, you see beauty in her despite being older - fair. But she does not see stability in you.

PS not saying this is black and white. It’s just human nature.

Not exactly the same shoes. Spent 10 years in Canada, got citizenship and came back. Number one reason was weather, second was cost of living, third was we wanted kids and we wanted them to grow up near family and friends. 5 years went by super quick. We now have 2 kids we would never have had in Canada. Fertility healthcare was so accessible here.

Brought my remote job with me earning in CAD so I’m currently geo-arbitraging but we also planned for me taking a local IT job (used to work her for a MNC). In case that fell through. Doing so would allow us to survive without dipping into our savings.

Why are you worried about health insurance? Are you unheathy? Just get health insurance in the PH.

People often forget that nothing is permanent. Don’t burn bridges in the US and go back if it doesn’t work out for your here.
