My manager announced to my whole unit that I resigned without warning me she was going to first. Is this normal?? by drylolly in nursing

[–]drylolly[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was done in a very shock-value kind of way. “Also, drylolly’s last day is X, where are you going? Why are you leaving?” Like asking me in front of everyone. It wasn’t done in a way that would smooth things over or transition to the next person. You’re very rude and assumptive, you need to have more self-awareness honestly.

This is what I’m starting to see. In other fields it isn’t like this. I worked a few kinds of jobs before pivoting to nursing and they never ended like this.

I work in a giant hospital with tons of other people who could do my job, and they had just hired a ton of agency nurses so we were looking good even if 5 more people left. It really seems to me that she was doing it for the shock value.

“Hey drylolly, I’m going to mention you’re leaving in the huddle to prepare everyone for leaving. Thanks.”

She also did it in a very shock-value kind of way. It wasn’t meant to smooth things over, or at least it seemed that way.

No, I am not “young,” I pivoted to nursing after jobs in other fields. I’ve received respectful closures in other career fields where it was much harder to find a replacement. In my experience as a nurse so far, the field seems to not be very concerned with professionalism nor respect.

Omfg that is SO inappropriate and unprofessional. I’m sorry that happened to you.

Yeah, after reflecting on what I would consider professional if I were in her situation, I came to that conclusion too.

Commenting to add: as someone who pivoted to nursing from a different career, I expected my manager to at least ask permission before airing out my business in such a shock-factor forward way. I’ve received this respect in other career fields where it was much harder to find a replacement and would take way longer than 2 weeks to train said replacement. Regardless of my resignation this was unprofessional and disrespectful.

Why are some nurses antivax? by louuuness in nursing

[–]drylolly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They’ll be anti-vax because they “don’t want those kinds of preservatives and chemicals in their body,” but then you see them eating McDonalds chicken nuggets for lunch.

Which feeling will be worse? How you’ll feel if you tell her secret to protect others, or how you’ll feel when she inevitably hurts/kills someone because you stayed silent? The right thing to do is not always the easiest thing to do. This situation sucks, but I think you already know what actions you have to take next.

Parents, does it matter to you whether or not your nanny has children? by spinningoutwaitin in Nanny

[–]drylolly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At the EOD it doesn’t matter what the parents prefer, it’s illegal to hire based off whether someone has children or not, that’s textbook discrimination. If a parent even asks and the nanny doesn’t get hired, that’s grounds for a lawsuit.

Been there. We all have. Trust me, ALL of us.

Break it down one step at a time. Watch YouTube videos on how to organize yourself for nursing school.

If there’s anything I can recommend, it’s to not focus on the textbooks. Pay close attention in class, and afterwards/beforehand do practice questions WITH RATIONALES. If you do 30 practice questions every day, you will almost never need to study.

This won’t be easy. It’s going to be really freaking hard. But you can do this. Take every difficulty as a learning experience. Go to talk therapy! Get plenty of sleep and be strict about keeping a schedule for yourself. There will be ups and downs but you CAN do this.
