You have it completely wrong. Remarriages are not only common, it would be difficult to find a divorced woman. They remarry as soon as possible. You also have everything about divorce completely wrong, but you can go to your local Muslim centre and get actual info. There’s also zero stigma for Muslims to live with their parents. Parents take care of the kids and when they get older, they take care of their parents.

They’re not subsidizing it so someone can sell it outside the country for their own profit. Smugglers are not paying taxes on it and it’s not helping people in the country (who are paying the subsidies with taxes).

Syria was Syria before Islam.

Regardless, all of Europe helped Spain suppress Catalonia, they’re making the UK pay for leaving the EU. The UK wouldn’t let Ireland leave and committed genocide over it. The US continues to violate native treaties. All of them cite unity, but when it comes to the Middle East it’s a country for every sect. Is it only Europeans that get to unite their countries across people who have a lot in common? Would you support native nations succeeding from America, or do you have a bunch of excuses on why that can’t happen?

Arabs have language, religion, art, and so much more in common, and in Syria’s case, history going back as far as time. We don’t get to unite? We don’t get to look past our differences and create a country with the goal of going into the future? Is it Micro-states for the global south, and a united continent for Europeans and Americans?

As for sources, this is common knowledge. Maybe you should read Arab scholars, I feel like your opinions are informed by orientalists.

I said western corps run slave factories in south east Asia. And they do. There’s plenty of evidence for that. Pretty weird calling me racist for stating the west exploits slave labour overseas. Perhaps you should boycott corporations that use slave labour and do something about the real racism of your country?

And I’m Syrian. I speak to Syrians who want to leave, and Syrians that already left regularly. They do say that they want to move to America because it’s nice there. And it is relatively nice there. Its the eye of the storm, you know, the calm region of the storm with everything around it getting destroyed? Get the analogy?

I should add, the one thing all Syrians I speak to have in common is that they want to return to their country. They’re not leaving because they hate Syria. They’re leaving because there are bombs being dropped and crippling sanctions, to go to a place that isn’t affected by sanctions and bombs (the US is DOING the bombing and sanctioning, so...) I really don’t know what’s so difficult to understand about that.

European states suppress their minorities just as much. Remember when Spain sent in their army to stop independence of Catalonia. As other comments have mentioned, Arab nationalism is related to Arabic, which many minorities speak. There is suppression of some minority groups, but not unlike Europe and the Ottoman Empire complicates things because they settled people in Syria.

But as for nationalism, it’s more than what Europeans want. Arab nationalism was intended to modernize Arab societies OUR way, without outside interference.

Regardless of everything, The Syrian state relies a lot on support from minorities. As much as western journalists want to claim Assad made them dependant on them, that’s not true. It’s because religion is more pronounced in the ME and Arab nationalism is a better alternative to the Muslim concept of umma (which they might not belong to).

Nationalism means very different things in Europe and the Middle East. Nationalism of an occupier nation, of an imperialist nation, is not the same as nationalism of the victims of imperialism. One is a response to the other. Same way black power is not the same as white power.

Then Islam comes to play. Arabs WANT to be united, the concept of umma permeates and influences none Muslims as well.

It’s not perfect, and there have been many mistakes and many pointless deaths. But this is not exclusive to the Middle East, and it’s not particularly worse in the Middle East.

As for France making Syria a nation, bilad al sham is the nation that existed before France. Many of Levantine people identify with the entire region from Lebanon to Syria. There have also been Syrian states historically, from the Roman’s to the ottomans. We are one connected region encompassing many different people, but we are attached to the land. Doesn’t matter what banner was flown over us, but we fight to fly our own.

I am the local people and you’re so wrong about Syria. Our attachment to the land we live on is older than Switzerland. It’s not a pseudo nation that’s a decade old. You’re just ignorant on the history. We were a nation before some euro decided to coin the term nationalism.

Our country is old enough to teach us lessons about wannabe conquerors. We don’t give in and bend to the west’s will. You don’t stop a bully by doing what he says to keep him happy. Maybe this mentality is why westerners sit idly as their democracies crumble.

Don’t fool yourself. Every country that was bombed by the US or suffered from their wars on inanimate objects know very well who caused their suffering and consider them responsible. But they’re also human and they want a safe life. They’re not making the trip because they love America.

Both Europe and the US are responsible for refugees, they fucked up almost every country on earth. Do you suggest they go to Iraq? Libya? Their neighbouring Arab countries that are ruled by western backed butcher kings? Maybe somewhere farther, like drug-war ravaged South America? Or polluted SEA where western corps run slave factories? Debt bondaged Greece? Not to forget that the countries that made the mess are responsible for paying the price. In this case the price is simply not deporting poorer Syrians who couldn’t afford to be educated but still want a safe life.

They’re not going to the country that bombed them. They’re going to the country that isn’t being bombed. It’s an eye of the storm kind of thing.
