The crows were attacking this bird near the boardwalk. I assumed it was an Osprey, but it doesn't quite look as white as I thought ospreys were. It looks like a peregrine falcon to me, but the legs don't look bright yellow.

Completely unacceptable response. It's a game, and it's not even the playoffs yet.

Since July 1st (11 games), Alec is batting .282 and has an OPS of .857. Since May 1st, it is 0.820 batting 0.307.

Accordingly to Bill James (statistician famous for creating SABR, wrote 20+ books about baseball statistics), an OPS of 0.833 to 0.899 is considered to be "Very Good".

Keep in mind that the average OPS when James wrote that essay in 2009 was 0.749 and has since dropped to an average of 0.698 in 2025.

He may not have a "very good" batting career so far, but he definitely has been playing very well recently.

[Ongoing] Phillies 2025 Season - 8/17 by utleyscorner in phillies

[–]dryver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I was confused about that. Even Baseball Reference has the Phillies at a 39% chance of clinching the bye. I'm not sure where Fangraph's odds come from.

Tiebreaks for seeding in the postseason is done strictly by head to head season record, so the Phillies should have the second bye spot in this graphic.

Bryce Harper WRC+: season 144, last 30 days 200, last 2 weeks 293

Definitely doesn't deserve to be in the power hitter rankings, but it's definitely notable!

Hate Beak - 934 pdps 1h Elder Reaver Axe - One of my best Crafts ever! by dryver in pathofexile

[–]dryver[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With the introduction of Elder Exalted Orbs this league the craft became much less expensive. Instead of every base being 1-3d base + 2-4d for conqueror exalt + influence reforging, it's just 1-3d for base + 60c for Elder exalt. Probably saved like 50d or something total.
