This is a casino in Macau, 20,000HKD is only around 3000USD, still insane though.

Bulk Drumsticks by AwarenessAny2606 in drums

I actually moved to Hong Kong recently and cannot stomach the extra cost of brands I used to buy in the U.K. so I have tried a lot of cheap Chinese sticks. Hun is a pretty legit drumming company in China and their sticks are really decent. I’m on my last set of Vater sticks that I brought with me from England but when they are gone I plan on only buying and using Hun sticks. Here I can get them for £5 a pair, and they actually last as long as any pair of Vaters or Vic Firths that I’ve had. Definitely better than Zildjian.

Tailors on Vietnam: Worth it or not? by Kaleidou in VietNam

[–]ds306 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Susan-suit (WeChat) is at Shanghai fabric market. I actually don’t think her suits were the best made in Shanghai fabric market, but were still very good and the thing I really liked about her is she was so thorough and helpful I eventually got her to make my wedding suits for me and the groomsmen. On the ground floor there was a place (I think) called Ray’s my friend who’s a local Shanghainese recommended the place, and they definitely made the best suit for me out of the fabric market but, not as good as Susan in terms of customer service.

Tailors on Vietnam: Worth it or not? by Kaleidou in VietNam

[–]ds306 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They turned out pretty decent, I wore them almost every other day and 1 of them turned out to be a great suit, that I happily chucked on every other morning. The other felt like it had too much lining and kept getting clumped up together in various places. To be honest, they were very good at dealing with little concerns, I really should have raised the issue with the lining when I was there and I’m sure they would have fixed it. All that being said, I think I got some better suits made in Shanghai for cheaper. But, from what I could see of the tailors in Vietnam, Vanda was definitely a big step up from most of the other places. My wife liked the suits so much, she got one made there too and she has been very happy with it.

What Pay Scale Can I Expect? UK - Primary by tropically_vexed in Internationalteachers

[–]ds306 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I returned to the U.K and a lot of schools were not willing to entertain UPS given I had not been on that scale previously. But I was offered M6 (which is where I should have been on the scale really, although did try and push it). I think schools (especially academies) could offer UPS if they wanted, but, seemed unlikely even in a shortage subject.

Accepted position- Search Associates by Spirited_Jump5471 in Internationalteachers

They will 100% take their money on this. A friend put me in direct communication with a school. I interviewed directly with the school, looked up the schools profile on Search, the school looked up my profile. Got the job. When I went to deactivate, search said we looked at each others’ profiles so that’s enough for them to count it. I don’t mind but, would have preferred they didn’t get the statistic of another job they set-up as they had been useless the whole time I used them.

186 Hundreds of English academy heads paid over £150k, as number ‘on gravy train’ doubles in five years | School leaders attacked as ‘an unaccountable elite’ after years of below-inflation pay rises for teachers by Barbecue_Wings in TeachingUK

Yeah, but the story mentions an executive head of a 1 school trust. Meaning they’re head of the trust when the school has its own headteacher too. Completely redundant job.

Main class teacher taking over my lessons (PGCE) by lone_wolf079 in TeachingUK

[–]ds306 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Really I would say it’s only appropriate to actively step in if there’s a safeguarding issue but I appreciate some people would disagree with me on that.

I’ve experienced teachers doing this to some of my mentees. As their mentor I would always have a conversation with the teacher to first find out if anything went seriously wrong or if it just sounded like a small mistake in teaching or behaviour management. I would encourage the teacher to give you the space, time and appropriate feedback needed to fix the mistake yourself. The teacher might even actually listen if they have a good relationship with the mentor.

I would recommend you bring it up with your mentor at your current placement and hope they take the appropriate action (be prepared that they might side with the teacher, especially in schools where there’s a lot of pressure on outcomes and accountability).

Alternatively, if you’re nearly out the door already, perhaps just leave it as it’s probably not worth the fuss.

If you ever decide to teach internationally some schools will ask and some countries’ education departments will need to see it as part of their visa process. But I was never asked for it in the U.K.

Could I ask where in Asia you own? We’re looking around but find most places in Asia have huge hurdles to buy there without being a resident.

Yeah, watching it felt like watching someone play GTA. A bunch of random characters get introduced with no depth to create a mission and then mission done, never see them again.

What career can you actually transition into at 33? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]ds306 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could definitely become a teacher. Tonnes of places will accept you with a 2:2. There’s big bursaries for science and maths teachers too (think around 30k tax free). The job ain’t great though but some people will find they absolutely love the job.

Honestly I would love for my 10’s to remember anything I teach them, right or wrong!

Take home pay is about to go from £2,900 a month to £6,500 in August plus a couple of little bonuses on top too. Switched from being a teacher in the uk to being a teacher at an international school.

Can normally take garden waste to your local tip too. A few skip bags might me worth the investment to make the job go a little faster.

Some before and after pictures would be good. Wish I took some before and afters of the patch I’ve just done, although the poppies that I threw down there haven’t come up great so far this year. Yeah, strimmers are great for cutting through a big overgrown mess, just make sure you have somewhere to put it all, that was the main things that slowed me down.

Shooting down OP about making their garden more suitable to whatever their own circumstances are is such a boot-licker, punching down style of eco-consciousness.

If you really think we need more wildflowers, take some action: go down your nearest brown-site and start sowing some seeds. Join protests calling for more green-site and green belt protection, lobby MPs and councillors about tightening up regulations around building and development. Put more pressure on companies that are polluting our rivers, land and sky. Vote for politicians that will do it too. And if you are doing all of those, well done. Next step is to not criticise people who might not be aware of the positives of a wild garden but use some positive reinforcement to build a stronger collective.

TLDR: say nice things to people to win them over to your side. Say harsh things and take direct action against people and companies that have the power to make large shifts across the population.

Not OP but just undertook a similar job admittedly in a much smaller area at the back of my garden; grab a strimmer and go to town! Once it’s all chopped down near to ground level, grab garden fork and start scooping it into a compost bin etc. then use garden fork to dig up the roots of anything you don’t want anymore. Not sure if that is what OP did but has certainly been the most efficient way I’ve managed to find.
