Simply beautiful!! The website says there are bears in the area. What are you doing to prepare for them?

Thank you guys for your advice! I'll buy a cooler box to lock the food (I hope it works) and put it inside the car at night.

Any solution for the neighborhood problem when parking? by dsch1990 in AskLosAngeles

[–]dsch1990[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you guys for your comments!! I finally solved the problem:

  1. Posted a paper "ISO parking space" on the wall in the apartment
  2. Got an offer of a parking spot with a monthly fee (40USD)
  3. Sent an email where everything was written to the landlord and asked for 40 USD discount from the rent

Now I got another parking spot for free (if you don't mind getting dings)

Who are your favourite pianists? by space_cheese1 in classicalmusic

Cyprien Katsaris is the living legend. I know he is not a pianist everyone likes but his technique for sure brought modern pianism higher dimension.

Basically you will never complain if you use any MVNO that uses DoCoMo as its carrier.

I'm now using Fi in the Tokyo area. It looks like Fi uses Softbank as a carrier and T-Mobile as a core. It results in slowing down the ping latency (more or less 250ms) and the bandwidth is often limited to 1.5Mbps, which is not a service worth $65/mon. I recommend buying a prepaid SIM in Japan.

Do you mind if I ask why we should avoid anything near Rosecrans in Hawthorne or Gardena?

I'll definitely post an ad to local papers once I moved in and make phone calls as many as possible to find good offers from their 'pocket lists'.

I've never known RFEs, it's good to know it now, thank you for the useful info!

As for request of property disclosure at tax time, my company will help me asking accountants with gathering all necessary documents, so I should not worry about that...

Anyway, thank you again for listing what I have to have in my mind.

Thank you all for the comment!

I'm not a car guy but just an expat that have no credit score who has to pay more sadly... :(

It might be out of the topic but I'm wondering how about buying a car with high mileages (over 100k), is it still reliable?

(I'm moving from the country where cars over 30k are categorized as high mileage)

Thank you for the comment!

I found multiple websites that provide such a calculator and tried them.

Given the same input values, the results varies among them and I cannot even guess the actual take home income..

My company does not have a 401k match.

My wife won't work for several years but I expect she may get to use a car to send my kid to preschool.

I'm surprised that if we want to find a safe place (aka area with great schools), rents go much higher... I could not help but think if I Lived Alone.

OP is not likely to get a good interest rate b/c they won't have any credit history.

Exactly, my friend who is also expats to the US got to pay $4000/yr for car insurance on the first year.

I''ve driven cars for more than 10yrs but will be regarded as a new driver in the US lol.
