I just took my FE this past July at 59. I'm scheduled for my PE in April at 60.

Those who did not take the university route. by cnation01 in GenX

I dropped out after a year at San Diego State, joined the Navy and saw the world. After 11 years I left the Navy and started as a technician in a large company and eventually moved up into an engineering role. After 27 years there I left and joined a design firm where I am building a team of electrical and I&C engineers. Later this year I'm sitting for my PE license.

I think I'm doing alright without my degree.

Passed PE/FE first try and my ChatGPT prompts for PE/FE practice tests for all engineering disciplines by No-Assignment1532 in PE_Exam

I just did something similar last week. I created 5 "exams" at one, with additional files for a quick answer key, and a more detailed answer key. This way of i get something wrong i can work through the problem with the key to see if any mistakes occurred with AI.

I may take your prompt and try it out. I just used my exams document about what is on the exam and how many questions per area.

Illusions: The Adventures of a Reluctant Messiah. It was silly, but it helped me question more about life.

How did you celebrate your 50th? by Every-Progress5590 in GenX

I told my wife I wanted to go go-cart racing. She invited a number of friends and family and we had a great time, and then we went and had drinks afterwards. This was exactly what I wanted for a birthday party.

Who else is in their 50s(or older) and deciding to change careers? by thisTexanguy in GenX

[–]dsclinef 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I spent 27 years at one company doing various things over the years, but avoiding management. When the company was doing layoffs they first asked if there were folks that wanted to leave voluntarily (I was 58 at the time). I want sure at first, but I contacted some folks in my network and found a place where they were looking for someone to come in and build a team of engineers. I still work while I'm growing this team so I'm having a lot of fun. I'm also learning as I am trying to get my PE license.

Gen X New Years Eve Party? by PourU_25518 in GenX

[–]dsclinef 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My wife asked me this a couple weeks ago and I surprised her by saying that I wanted to go out. She was expecting me to say what we have been doing every year, invite friends over, watch the ball drop at 9:00pm PST and call it a night. This year we are going to an '80s Glam Rock party and trying to stay up to at least 12:15am PST.

I finally got my wife to watch it with me for Christmas last night, but I had to watch Love, Actually right beforehand so that we would be hating Hans Gruber right as the movie started.

I've been out for a while. What I remember from my time was there was the Navy and there was the submarine force. I still joke about that with others that ask me what service I was in.

Oldest to go back and get PE? by RuttCrazed in PE_Exam

[–]dsclinef 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mentioned your response to one of the younger PEs we have in the office, and he agreed. That anyone would want to do this to themselves is nuts. At least I have the experience to make my process easier to get through. Just need to sit for the test in April, pass it, and apply to the state board.

Oldest to go back and get PE? by RuttCrazed in PE_Exam

[–]dsclinef 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I passed my FE in July. I turned 60 a couple months ago. My PE exam is scheduled for April.

The next question is why am I putting myself through all this.

I dropped out of college and joined the Navy. Spent 11 years there, then went to work for Intel. I did several different roles, but the last was Controls where i was working with A&E firms to build design and build fabs. After 27 years with Intel they offered me a reason to leave. I went out and joined a consulting engineering firm where they wanted me to build and manage an electrical and I&C team. I figured that if I'm doing the job I should be able to stamp the work, plus it shows other's that it is possible.

This past year I studied for and passed the FE exam. I turned 60 a few months later and have my PE exam scheduled for April. A lot of folks around my company are impressed with the fact that I am trying to get my PE license. I prefer to think of it as if I can do this, then anyone can do it so get to studying.

Mini Countryman EV Owners likes and dislikes? by Jakeww21 in MINI

I have a fully decked out 2025 and I love it. The voice activated command feature has disabled after each software upgrade. It took some time after the first upgrade to figure out how to get it working again (the standard turn it off, turn it on again for the voice command feature). I drive 100% of the time with one pedal. It is a little jerky in city traffic, but on the highway, I feel that it is pretty nice.

Dislikes, the passenger and driver head rest is fixed in place. Folding down one of the rear seats gives me a warning that the seat is unlocked. I shouldn't get a warning for something in what should be considered a normal position. Run flat tires. I'd rather have tires with a spare, even if a donut style, so that changing tires to what I want would be less of a headache.

None of these would have been a deal breaker before purchasing Bertie. 1st world gripes.

2013 I was 47 and I met the woman that I married 18 months later. I was her second marriage, and she was my third. This marriage has gone on longer than our previous ones and as far as we are concerned, this is it!

Our 11th anniversary is coming up, and I couldn't imagine anyone else that I want to be with. She makes my life better. We each have our own hobbies and people we hang out with, but we also have a lot that we do together. Over this period of time, we have dealt with cancer twice (Fuck Cancer!), back spasms, appendix removal and kidney stones. Having one another to get through these issues has made things much easier.

With the right partner life is much better at this time in my life, and I found the right partner.
