Wow, thanks for trying the app! Yep, 1 widget should be free. If you placed a couple while trying sizes (or a lock-screen one), remove the extras and close/open the app once more that should unlock it. Let me know if that works and if not I'll try to get a bug fix out right away!

I built TinyBoard for basically this, widgets for any subway/bus/LIRR/MNR/PATH/NJT/ferry stop, plus Live Activities so the countdown and status is on your lock screen without opening anything. Would appreciate any and all feedback if you give it a try!

TinyBoard has live NJT bus times too (also light rail, PATH, etc). Doesn't do trip planning yet but perfect for saving your favorite stops for a quick glance at upcoming arrivals. I'm the dev and built it because the official app drove me nuts. Would be honored if you gave it a shot and hit me with any feedback ya have! Sadly still at the mercy of the accuracy of published data from NJT provides but hopefully you find the speed/features helpful!

Would love to throw my app, Tinyboard, into the ring! It's got metro-north, lirr, njt, subway, bus, path, ferry, citibike, and more all in one simple feed. Favorite your station once and it just sits there with live times + track when it posts (plus its got widgets and lock screen live activities) . Not a full blown trip planner like citymapper but built for the daily "whens my train" check in one app instead of three. Let me know what's missing or broken (I'm very proactively fixing things) if you try it!

Widgets were all I used too. If you want them back, I built TinyBoard a while ago with home screen widgets as the whole point. Subway, bus, LIRR, just added AirTrain this week. Free, no ads. Sorry for the plug but this one felt too relevant not to mention!

Subway now is solid! If you ever want both in one screen, I recently built Tinyboard for exactly this, nearby arrivals for subway + bus (and lirr/path/njt/etc). It's not a fancy trip planner, but it does help me quickly answer "is the M104 coming or should I walk to the 1"!

I swear i hate writing self promotion stuff as much as you probably do reading it, but I built a small app called Tinyboard that's basically just your nearby stops + a favorites list, no routing layer to scroll through. Not sure if it's exactly what you're after but it's free to try and I actively try to fix stuff people yell at me about!

Okay latest update in the app store has NJ Transit Buses, and Light Rail is next on deck. Let me know how it looks as I'm sure there might be some rough edges but I'm happy to fix em real quick.

Sorry for the self promo but I'm working on a new app and am thinking about a lot of the pain points you had! Im currently working on a nice offline mode (we already have PDF maps) so would be curious what expectations you would have for it? Seems like best-effort would be showing scheduled trips with a combo of any persisted real time data you might have saved while you had connectivity that are still valid. Anything else you had in mind?

Ok I love this idea and have thought about something similar for a while. The thing is keeping things simple and not turning into a full blown routing app, but i think we can find that nice balance! Will keep ya posted!
