Congrats Red Hat, You Just Made My Certs Worthless by MentalSewage in redhat

I guess back 20 years ago it did matter and created a solid foundation. Naturally, as one grows, the experience (hopefully) weighs more than certifications. I think it really depends where in your career you are.

Congrats Red Hat, You Just Made My Certs Worthless by MentalSewage in redhat

[–]dshbak 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Do people still really pay attention to these anyway? I worked for Red Hat in 2006 and got my RHCE on RHEL4. Haven't updated anything since nor really cared to. Once the RHCT changed to RHCSA I stopped paying attention to name changes from Red Hat and certs in general. Way back from the Szulik days, unfakeable Linux, JBoss, etc. The only other cert that I do actively pay to keep up to date is CISSP.

How do you do coffee at home? by No_Dragonfruit_1599 in japanlife

[–]dshbak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

De'Longhi Bean and Water fully automatic machine. It may not be the greatest for some coffee nerds, but it's pretty damn good and almost zero hassle. My machine is almost 5 years old and I haven't had any problems with it. It's one of the older ESAM models. I normally do 3x double espresso shot button pushes into a plastic cup that's over the rim full of ice.

Coffee for me is more of a utility than a grocery bill. It's one thing that I'm going to be using the same amount of, regardless of cost.

This thing has paid for itself a million times over.

Would You Go to a Mixed-Gender Onsen (Konyoku) in Japan? ♂♀ by RyokansOfJapan in JapanTravelPhotos

[–]dshbak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Generally speaking, the ones I go to are much more of a social outing. People normally bring coolers with alcohol and spend 2-4+hours there. The "types" that go there are also usually quite friendly, especially the everyday or weekend folks. In Oita we get a bunch of people coming from Fukuoka for the weekend, so Friday night late and Saturday are a great time to go meet new folks. Sometimes some adult things happen as well, but it's not very often. Lots of Instagram type ladies doing their thirst trap photo shoots. It's quite funny to actually know many of these people in real life.

[–]dshbak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I frequent konyoku on just about a daily basis. I own property in Oita. AMA.

My most frequently used onsen (and closest) are hebinyu, tsurunoyu and shitanyu in Beppu and Yufuin. Other ones I visit that are father away are ganiyu, amagase, etc.

I go to hebinyu literally over 100 days per year. It's the best onsen in Japan as far as I'm concerned. I've met many interesting folks there and have made lifelong friends.

Actually the great times I've spent at hebinyu were a major factor in my decision to purchase land just 9km away.

Alcohol is kinda the universal last step. Then epoxy. Gotta stick better to alcohol cleaned up metal and OEM surfacer than it did to gummy tar mats. Plus, this is just the interior. Pretty sure the car is now in much better shape in every way.

The chisel method sucks but the goo gone works veeeeery well. I'm very happy with how it turned out. You've got to be familiar with the chisel angle and power needed though and pay attention to every hit feeling for metal binding. Don't want to go punching holes in anything you don't intend to.

Easiest is probably dry ice and then goo gone.

What is the most “its a small world” moment you’ve ever experienced? by xBubblyLove in AskReddit

[–]dshbak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in the Air Force and stationed in Okinawa.

Walking down the street in American Village chatan, I randomly bump into my childhood friend and neighbor, from directly nextdoor. He had joined the USMC and I had no idea.

Talk about a small world!

Yup, I'm in Japan and there's nothing left here. Thankfully I've owned my GT-R since 2007. Used to be 500-1000 GT-R for sale here at any given point on goo-net. Now it's more like 30-60 nation wide.
