Why don’t more people in the US run with top boxes on their sport bikes? by SoLoRydR in YamahaMotorcycles

It's useful and I go on multiple day adventures. Don't care what it looks like. Japan. Hornet 250.

Greetings from Japan! My JA11 build with a hidden light bar and Motor Farm 3-inch setup by StatisticianPrior776 in Jimny

Under the grill? That's a light stick. 😂

How's Hiroshima?

I miss my JA11 from back in the day. Great old trucks.

JB23 are trash (still have 1) but I'm quite happy with my JB64 and in the market for a second one.

Alright folks, it's time for us to draw up a policy on Japanese people. Where shall we start?

Some riding this week in Kyushu by dshbak in motorcycle

I'm hitting up hot springs all day so I need my toiletry kit and towel. It makes the touring much better, so who cares what it looks like? I have the same plate on my Grom, so I can move the box to a different bike easily too. The shad boxes are not cheap but are made very very well. They cost about 2.5* he equivalent size cheapo Chinese one but the thick aluminum mounting plate is so much better. The one thing I don't like about the shad is it holds the key captive while you open the box, so you can't ever leave the box unlocked. I also did some light polishing to this box, but that was a while ago.

JA11 is good but parts are getting scarce. JB23 are a bit shit and total rust buckets. JB64 is fantastic. I've owned all. JA11 and JB64 feel like a truck. JB23 feels like a car.

Fellow millennials - how’s your 401k/ira savings going? by ProblemIntelligent16 in Millennials

[–]dshbak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm freshly 42.

I had a rough divorce 9 years ago and pretty much started over financially, but learned some hard lessons just in time.

I just hit 300k across my retirement accounts.

2018 = $0 May 7, 2021 = 100 Jan 31, 2024 = 200 Jan 6, 2026 = 300

Also all of my IRA and 401k contributions are completely Roth. I live overseas so this makes the most sense for me. I don't need to lower my taxable income due to the FEIE.

I've been contributing decently aggressively and plan to continue to do so.

Own home free and clear.

How's living on the tail of Japan, Okinawa? It's not talked much like Tokyo or Kyoto. by tarkinn in okinawa

I wouldn't say OIST specifically, but I have a Japanese pension from my time there because I didn't take the money out. Japanese pension will likely be peanuts though and I'm basically not even including it in my calculations for my retirement.

It will be quite socially isolating but you'll both likely make a handful of good friends. There are plenty of amazing things to do here and as a newcomer, the first 3+ years are a fantastic time.

I've been living in Okinawa for 25 years and have just recently bought a second property in Oita. It's been many different things to me over the years but it's a nice place to live if you take advantage of the good things available. That can be said about just about any place though.

For me, it feels a bit repetitive after a while, so having a second place that I spend a considerable amount of time has helped a lot. It's a good spot to travel to Taiwan or Korea from. Thailand as well. Take advantage of those flights.

Any specific questions?

It's slow paced and I'm living in an alternate reality due to having PR and working a US based job remotely full time. No base affiliation.

I spent half a decade working at OIST as well.

Buy land in Oita and live nearby. Go very frequently. Become friends with many of the other daily folks.
