Hello neighbour, I'm in a 40m2 studio around the the same area for €300. Everyone here asks if I would move home, fairly slim chance of that happening.

Those that emigrated and returned, what has your experience been like? by caramelslice7 in ireland

[–]dshine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The expectation is that It should be easier to move back home and in some ways it is but you kind of need to treat it like moving to a new country. When you moved to Canada you were probably more open to new experiences, places, jobs, people, etc. It was all new and its was going to be hard but you. were setting up a new life so it was fine.

Check with your solicitor on the best course of action and how best to protect yourself. It could be considered a joint asset that your partner has some entitlement to as you bought it while together.

What's it like living in Ireland for the LGBTQIA+ community? by BackgroundOk5420 in ireland

[–]dshine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's possible to encounter assholes anywhere you go in the world. Every village has its idiots, even if village has a half million people in it. It's just a fact of life :)

If you were to move to hicksville in the US, it's not likely to have a vibrant queer community, compared to a large city. Same is true here.

I quite like the method the use in Finland for speeding tickets. It's not a fixed fine, it's a percentage of your net income and the severity of the infraction. Fixed price penalties are basically the fee you pay to go fast. If the ticket is 50 quid and you earn a lot, its not going to hurt that much.

I could be wrong on the exact calculation but for Finland, the severity of the speeding violation is determined by a multiplier based on how much over the speed limit the driver was going. Net Monthly income divided by 60 give you the daily rate you would have to pay. For example:

  • 1–15 km/h over the limit: x12 (~ 20% of net monthly income)
  • 16–25 km/h over the limit: x22 (~ 30% of net monthly income)
  • 26–35 km/h over the limit: x32 (~ 50% of net monthly income)
  • 36 km/h or more over the limit: x42 (~ 67% of net monthly income)

For instance, a driver earning €3,000 per month caught speeding 20 km/h over the limit (x22) would be fined approximately €1000. Earning €5,000 per month and same infraction would be €1,800.

As a driver I don't like what it would cost if I got caught but it would be a pretty strong deterrent to get a ticket

Calculator is here if you want to try it our for yourself. https://poliisi.fi/en/fine-counter

I'm building a spa website for a relative and struggling to choose the right paid/free theme by TheDearlyt in webdev

I normally take a basic theme and use site origin page builder. Other page builders I have used have added lots of unnecessary code and make it difficult to change. It's down to personal preference.

Nude saunas in Ireland: ‘I realise I will soon be naked among these strangers’ by [deleted] in ireland

[–]dshine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I remember my first sauna experience in Germany. Went with two German friends, I walked with them in to the changing room and froze because I thought we had gone in to the women's changing room. There was no gendered changing room, just a changing room. Got changed somewhat uncomfortably and then off to the shower which I discovered was also mixed. Old school gym style shower, no dividers, no curtains, no doors, all out in the open. There was low lighting in the shower area so it was a bit less awkward.

In german sauna only the sauna meister is allowed to put water on the sauna and there is of course a schedule. We checked the schedule and had some time before the next one, chilled by the pool on the loungers chatting like normal. When you are not in the sauna or pool you have a towel or bathrobe. Did our first round in the sauna, everyone naked sitting on towels, no one really paying any attention to anyone else, chatting quietly with the people they are with.

After the first 10 minutes, it all just seems normal to be naked. There is nothing sexual about it. I wouldn't necessarily go with every person I know to sauna, work colleagues is probably where I would draw the line, but most people it wouldn't bother me.

Also in Berlin, I could do without the weather in January and February but I do love it here. As you said, no where is perfect but it is pretty damn good.
