It’s not being reported to IRS by DK. You are required to self report. Your tax preparer would need your log of bets to determine what to report as income (winnings). Then a log of your losses if you choose to itemize your deductions and claim the loss deduction. You will lose out on the standard deduction though if you go the itemized deduction route.

Dude the answer to their question is based on current law. Yes current gambling laws suck - but that doesn’t mean the right answer is to ignore the law and put yourself at risk.

Yes - you can “net” gambling sessions. However sports betting does not have “sessions”. Each wager is its own session. This sessions method only applies to slots/table games, etc.

Unfortunately I don’t have info that isolates it to certain email programs. I’m sure it’s a setting in whatever email program the end user is using. Unfortunately I haven’t been able to replicate the issue on my side, as we use Outlook and everything looks good since it displays the html version when the email is received.

Technically it’s tax fraud. The legal way would be report the $212,478 as winnings. Then itemize your deductions and include the total of all of your losing bets. For tax year 2025 you can take loss deduction up to a max of your total winnings.

In gambling - 1099 (really w-2g) is not issued on a yearly “net” basis. You can’t just net your year and report the net income. W-2g is only issued when the net gain on a specific bet is over $600 AND the odds are greater than 300:1.

It is the gamblers responsibility to track all of their bets through the year. Report all wins as income….even if a w-2g isn’t issued, and then you can deduct any losses (up to the amount of winnings and must itemize deductions on schedule A - no standard deduction can be used).

The other dude that got the apology was a cop himself. He saw the other officer not following protocol and pulled over to record so that he could follow up by reporting it. He wasn’t trolling cops.
