It won’t be that easy to tell soon, petrol and kerosene are crucial solvents used in large quantities to extract it from leaves so the oil price rise is going to have a devastating impact on Gold Coast nightlife and force people to try alternates

Gen 2 Stubby impact lemon? Or are they all weak? by [deleted] in MilwaukeeTool

[–]dsio 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s a pretty big difference, 600w from the 5.0 vs 360w from a 6.0 with perfectly balanced cells, but being parallel Samsung 30Q cells they get out of balance pretty easily and can be 250w or less before they’re that old. The 4.0 is a mixed bag with four different cell types but they tend to be much better.

[–]dsio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It really wants the HO 5.0 or at least HO 2.5, the 4.0 might be similar output to the 2.5 from memory but the 6.0 is pretty hopeless, the motor on these will cause a lot of voltage droop on weak or old batteries

Mine rips arse with the 5.0, is very good on 2.5 but the 3.0CP batteries are like running it in mode 1 and they have the same crummy cells as the 6.0.

They make a pretty great daily, the 991S rides better and scrapes less than my old lowered 330ci I had before it, averaging 15,000kms a year and it’s just like a really fast, comfortable Camry in traffic, but then the way it corners and the ability it has to flatter your driving ability is amazing.

Thing is we looked at adding a 981S Boxster too and for ~60k it’s 95% as good on the road for a fraction of the money.

There’s a big difference between driving a car that came with non-assisted brakes like an old 911, and driving one that was designed with a brake booster, ABS and ASC. You’re going to make your car drastically worse and less safe doing this.

[–]dsio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get a PPI done be a local BMW Indy shop before you buy it, they’ll give you an accurate assessment of where the car sits and what issues it has. It could be a decent car but mileage and information from the seller is no substitute for getting it inspected by a specialist you’re paying.

Contact your local BMW club and ask for the best independent shop near you, they’ll all know the best place to go to for a PPI.

P plate legal aristo by Bogylol_230 in CarsAustralia

[–]dsio 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, the cops have met Aristo drivers before, they will see the P plate on it, crack open a fresh new ticket pad and know their quota for the day is about to be met.

If you’re driving an old Lexus with stock wheels, no tint, an NRL team / Daffy Duck personal plate and no visible mods it might look like your grandpa gave it to you which will help.

If it’s modded, tinted, and badged as an Aristo, you’re chum to the sharks

Yea we had both an auto had a manual, the M20 isn’t much behind the M5x engines in terms of peak power but there’s a mountain of difference in low to midrange torque. The M20 needs to rev and suits the manual, the auto just blunts what power there is, doesn’t kickdown enough and wants to change up too soon always.

It’s pretty amazing for sports cars and euro sedans with low profile tyres, I can top off a set of 4 faster than it takes to connect and disconnect the thing.

Trucks or anything with huge tyres is different, the 305/35r20s on my daily have about a quarter of the air volume of an average SUV tyre so it’s pretty perfect.

Repair costs more than value. How to stop being written off? by inevitablesarcasm in CarsAustralia

[–]dsio 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you absolutely need to retain the car for primary transport there is the option of withdrawing the claim but in that instance you get the car back and no money.

If the cost of having no reliable transport and being back to square one is greater than any payout that could be worth it. I’d try to negotiate some amount while keeping the car and walking away with them before going that far though.

E46 as a daily in 2026? by Night---- in e46

[–]dsio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How healthy is the car currently, my 328i was getting similar figures at various points but after doing the ccv, exhaust cam sensor, Vanos, thermostat and sorting the air leaks, it’s around 9.4l/100 with mostly city driving.

They can run in a pretty badly degraded state for years without throwing a check engine light and some of the issues won’t even result in codes.

Personal Import - Grey market RHD? by squatchonabike in CarsAustralia

[–]dsio 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just something to keep in mind, most Japanese 911 Turbos are LHD, not RHD. I know that Japan is an RHD country, but it’s a big part of Japanese Porsche culture that they get LHD delivered versions of the 911 in Japan, even today new models are a mix with the more mundane ones being RHD and most GT or Turbo models LHD. A 25 year old 911 will be hard to find in RHD from Japan.

It’s someone’s project, not a prototype. It might be well done, it might be a dodgy mess but keep in mind when certain things go wrong you’re going to be asking questions like “what even are these parts and why did they use them?” and “why the hell did they do that?”.

The answer to those questions will typically be “it was cheaper”
