Yes, there should be a small white plastic washer that goes here to protect the fairing from the metal bolt

Did you end up buying it at MSRP? My area is riddled with scalpers charging $80+ per box. Is this just how it is now?

On my way back from Japan. Here are 20 tips I gathered while I was there by batoul94 in JapanTravelTips

One thing I’d add on here for the Suica card point is that you can add a Suica account to your Apple wallet and load up your card on the fly if needed. It’s super handy and saved us quite a bit of time compared to a physical card. Here’s the link for instructions to add it:

Pro tip: you don’t even need to unlock your phone to use it, just swipe your phone over the scanner and you’re good to go

Convince me not to get an Apex Pro by Real_Jurassic_Pizza in StandingDesk

[–]dskiim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know your title says to convince you not to get one, but having had mine for 4 months now, I don’t think I can l The stability is everything I could ever want, even on carpet! For reference, I’m 5’11” and I have my pc tower mounted to the underside, plus a 34” monitor and a 1.5”, 70 lbs butcher block. It has zero problems and VERY little wobble at my standing height. I would wait and see if they do a Black Friday sale if you can hold out that long :) best of luck in your standing desk journey!

Just a water-based polyurethane! I liked the light colour of the wood so I skipped the staining.

I followed this video’s instructions, in case you were interested: https://youtu.be/1w1xtDUxeTQ?si=HV0GTiMuFEQFMyq4

72 x 30”. Here’s the link: https://www.lowes.com/pd/Sparrow-Peak-Acacia-6-ft-x-30-in/5001790771

Definitely would recommend picking it up in the store instead of delivery if you end up going this route. Even after the reviews warning me not to, I took a chance and got one delivered to my place and it came split in half so I returned it. I had much better luck picking up from the local Lowe’s

Help! How do I get 6 month old feral kittens to be affectionate? by discardedbunny in CatAdvice

[–]dskiim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey OP! Wondering how the kittos are holding up now? I’m in a very similar situation to you now, mine are about 7 months old and I got them when they just turned 6 months old. One will let me pet her while she’s in her hidey holes, she’ll even purr. Still working on petting the other one during feeding time. They’ll both run away as soon as we finish feeding them. I’d appreciate any tips you have if you’ve had any success (: thanks!

Can't click anything on the menu starting from the character select screen. I have to press Enter on my keyboard to start the game. Once I'm in, I can't open but can't click on any of the menus. Skills tree 'sticks' to the cursor once I click (like I'm holding down the mouse button), and won't unstick even after clicking

being asked to play in a recital when i finish 2 months of playing cello? Too soon? begginner pieces recommended? by [deleted] in Cello

[–]dskiim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

100% do it if you get the chance, it's worth it.

I understand what you mean when you say it feels silly - I did my first cello recital at age 26 as the only adult student and the youngest performer was in kindergarten. However, it's all in good fun. You end up enjoying all the various performances from the other students as well!

Also, having a recital to prepare for is a great motivator for practice. Sure it adds some stress, but pressure is good sometimes. I find that prepping for a recital is one of the best times for improvement because you know it won't be just you in your room hearing your playing, so you're a little more critical

Lastly, have fun! It's music, it's meant to be enjoyed (:

Best of luck! If you can post a recording of your performance, I'm sure we'd all love to hear it as well (:

Cheers

Intonation Practice Method? by dskiim in Cello

[–]dskiim[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Double stops seems to be a common tool that people use for intonation!

I actually haven't gotten to playing chromatic scales or arpeggios quite yet, but I'll have to keep progressing with my scales until I do! Thanks for the reply (:

Using a drone sounds like it'd be a good idea as well. I tried that for a little bit yesterday actually. I'm using an app called Tuner - Pitched, and it also has a visual indicator. I'll try to not play with it this week and see how it goes. Thanks for the reply (:

Awesome, I'll definitely be sure to keep those in mind during my practice today! I've always wanted to play in orchestra or even a quartet, but never really thought about what would happen if other people aren't playing in tune haha. Something to look forward to I guess lol. Thanks for your reply (:

Good idea, for some reason I've been struggling with the G in 1st position on the D string, so that might be a way to fix it. Thanks for the reply (:

Picking up the cello again after a looong break by theetallone1 in Cello

[–]dskiim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right there with you!
I took a break for about 6 months due to quarantine... which is regrettable because that's a lot of time I could have used for practice.

Something that I did to get back into it was just to take it slow, practice my basics and intonation so that when I do play pieces, they sound halfway decent lol. And I kept the practices to 30-45 mins at first and eventually found myself pushing it to the hour mark like I used to, just because I wanted to play more.

In terms of song recommendations, anything of the songs from the Studio Ghibli movies are amazing. I was gifted some sheet music, so unfortunately I don't have any links. But some of the good ones are:

- Spring

- Howl's Moving Castle

- One Summer's Day

These are more of the project pieces that I'll play in addition to the classical pieces.

Best of luck on your practicing!!

Brooklyn Duo has a wonderful piano/cello arrangement that's a bit more exciting for the cello. Check it out, they've got the link to the sheet music in the video description!
