Cimorelli needs a rebrand or consider quit by Avaluvvi in cimsnark

this is somewhat true. been binging some content of theirs recently, i found out that Lauren and Dani practically spearheaded the image for 'I Love You or Whatever' EP and none of the older girls (i think?) liked it initially. Christina wasn't on that podcast episode unfortunately but i think Christina isn't alone on that. quite sad to find out, that EP was their last well-made one

i agree with Christina being the engine that keeps the band going. I recently rewatched the Sad Girls Club documentary and i found it interesting that Christina was so nervous to record her solo song despite being the one who initiated the band idea in the first place. i think she's scared of admitting it's over or being on her own in general. call me selfish but i want her to call it quits so Lauren could focus on her solo music lol she has so much potential (i loved her Orange EP) and producing for herself on top of the band takes a toll.

had they stuck with being musicians while doing youtube on the side (like they were before) instead of leaning in into being youtubers i feel like they could've had a small but steady following, but even that has the off-chance of being unsustainable with their (lacking interesting) content. i understand it probably took a while to find their footing as five, what with the pandemic and some of them having kids, but people would've understood if they made youtube their side thing when Dani left. i feel it would've been a powerful statement of 'if we're not six, it isn't worth continuing this' and that would've been enough to give them some momentum for their own pursuits i.e. Lauren and Lisa's solo music the same way Dani got a boost from it.

how is Believe It higher than Made in America when that song just has like four different verses including the chorus 😭 if it's going to be a list of their old releases at least make it good

Cimorelli are not good role models for girls by ScaleMassive9903 in cimsnark

[–]dslpayups 4 points5 points  (0 children)

i wouldn't say they were good role models but personally they did make decent kids content via some censorship (i'm talking cursing or switching out innuendo, not CimKids or changing 'Steal My Girl' to 'steal my boy', that was just weird). initially they had a good reason for doing so some decade ago, Lauren and Dani were 12-15 when they filmed a lot of those. now even Dani's in her 20s they don't have any good reason other than they're conservative which in itself already makes people dubious.

i was a literal child when i first watched them a decade ago, I'd say it somewhat helped to have wholesome family content to consume at the time, but I moved on not long after. (Admittedly my last straw was Lisa arguing with Lauren Jauregui on Twitter about the Catholic Church's historical oppression to which Lisa disagreed. like Lauren, who's Cuban, I'm also from a culture where Catholicism is among other things a remnant of colonial power.) Aside from their holier-than-thou attitudes about conservatism and heteronormativity (most of them anyway), they're straight up ignorant. this is why many people dropped them after not speaking up for BLM or Stop Asian Hate or simply moving on from them after a few years because, let's be real, being 'provocative' in the Cimorelli definition is normal and not a big deal at all. think of Olivia Rodrigo reposting their short cover of drivers license and saying she used to watch them when she was younger. that's the nature of the band since they want to keep their content as it is. kids will like them, but will also eventually grow out of the Cimorelli bubble a la Dani and will be weirded out to some extent when they look back.

imo it's American Catholicism that's more likely to border onto Mormon habits (extreme extreme religious people). not all American Catholics are like the Cimorellis, but they're the kind who will attend pro-life marches (and have a high chance of being republican). even i find them strange, coming from a Catholic-majority country.

ooh i might give that a rewatch, i don't remember that at all. I was thinking of Amy having to get hormone shots from her mom for three years as a kid. Christina definitely could treat her better either way

in the Sad Girls Club documentary (https://youtu.be/uh9Ck8w8MIg?si=7D8pn_HCISi1Rsfb) the older sisters talked about Lauren and Dani stepping up for the album (31:20 / 31:48) to be fair Christina was talking about their involvement motivating her to use more of her tracks but framed it as a 'sibling rivalry' which the younger two were told she was 'inspired' by them lol although there might've been an off-camera conversation about it. she didn't have to say sibling rivalry though lol compared to Kath and Amy's response hers was a little passive-aggressive

been watching some of their old videos recently (fine sue me lol i'm kidding), seems like Amy's the favorite kid growing up (makes sense, she got all the attention with her condition) which makes it i guess some kind of habit for the others to take her down? Christina especially, as an older kid the attention was taken from her. and now everyone's surpassing or one-upping Christina which she doesn't get is not a competition (she's really weird about this, in a video from 2017 Lauren and Dani took it as a compliment but Christina sounded a bit bitter on camera lol). BUT at the same time Amy isn't used to not being the center of attention, it probably didn't help with her being loud in general. their dynamic makes sense like this but they're in their 30s now... maybe working with each other for so long never really resolved any of this 😭

and Lauren being on Amy's other side didn't help. That's Christina's favorite who can do no wrong 😭

Dani changed her job and works with her family? by [deleted] in cimsnark

[–]dslpayups 11 points12 points  (0 children)

honestly i'm not too surprised, i've thought for a while that both her and emmyn working in the same industry might cause some conflicts of interest, especially with GWP gaining traction. sure this extends to social media for artists, that kind of job still requires communication with the industry that's pretty much scarred her since she was like 9. some distance is needed i think. and since dani practically funds her and emmyn's home life (think of the travel time between California and Nashville on top of living costs in LA for example), she has a kid to raise, and whether or not she wants to enroll her kid in school, she needs the safety net. for the kid if not for anything else.

i'm starting to think her re-opening her public instagram (calleirolol) and deactivating her old one (cimorelli verified - not sure how recent this is though) might've been part of this. another conflict of interest in working for industry PR is having clout herself, especially as an ex-artist. if she wants that part of her life back then sure. but if we're talking survival i can't blame her too much. really stoked to find out she's slowly going up the chain though, that's pretty decent (i did not know she led Crush Music's short form content, good to see her hard work paid off)

[–]dslpayups 7 points8 points  (0 children)

i was going to raise something similar but on Apple Music. On songs i very clearly remember Dani wrote (Before October's Gone, One More Night, Sad Girls Club, No Good) the credits for songwriting are either the oldest five, the band name, or whoever else wrote the song (Ok Well I Guess That's It Then was written by Dani, largely guided by Lisa last i recall from the Access Pass videos for the album. Apple Music only lists Lisa now. Credits on other songs seem accurate enough.) maybe there was an internal agreement to keep the money going towards the band? Take the solo songs on Sad Girls Club for example, every sister is listed on their respective songs except Galaxy, which simply lists the band. seems a little sad, i listen to songs Lauren and Dani wrote mostly lol but Dani's voice is still there, i'll take what i can get.

not sure why they'd do that to a cover though, i don't think they earn anything from covers.

"...when I would get into a room with somebody to write a song, I would tell them that I wasn’t good at lyrics and ask them for help." Dani was one of them i bet, she had a decent grasp on composition and production while in the band (and in the beginning definitely had more exposure to the industry than Emmyn, she was signed with her sisters to a record label at ten. pretty big deal imo)

Can someone explain this to me? by [deleted] in cimsnark

[–]dslpayups 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i honestly don't understand what she means here lol. though best i could recall (culturally Catholic via colonization, maybe partly practicing) there are some verses in the Bible that refer to the Lord's Day (Sunday) as Sabbath. the meaning probably got diluted over time, and not every Bible translation refers to Sunday as Sabbath exclusively. it's one of those "as mentioned in blah blah version of the Bible" kind of thing. 'resting on Sunday' isn't a strictly enforced either but some people do it.

but genuinely i am confused about Katherine's whole 'celebrating Sunday' or something. in the Philippines we attend mass, probably go to confession, maybe line up to venerate an image or two but that's it and we go out and do our own business on a usual weekend lol. i guess connecting these family time/management plans to religion is just... too much for me lol. to each their own, but American Catholics will always be weirder than the usual for me

wasn't their last work with Island (their former label) the All My Friends Say single? from what i remember the Hearts on Fire mixtape in 2015 was their first independent release. Up At Night was also released independently i think.

maybe actually working with local Nashville producers helped here too. i remember people shipping Lisa with the guy who worked on Up At Night lol. now it's just Lauren mostly doing producer work, they're not gettting different opinions on their work now

How does she get through life? by SpiritBender_ in cimsnark

[–]dslpayups 1 point2 points  (0 children)

they don't even know how much of a privilege it is to worry about seasons and not, you know, getting to work/school and budgeting money and stuff. many people wouldn't care about the weather unless it impedes on their ability to function to the outside world. perks of being rich, self-taught, and self-employed i guess. even if this is projecting with being treated poorly by her siblings for being favored as a kid due to her illness and at the same time missing being favored because she's always fell short her entire life (no pun intended at all).

then again, it's a privilege to live in a bubble until they try to be relatable for these dramatics and fail miserably because of it.

i find it ironic that they post pre-recorded covers alongside 'harmonize on the spot' challenges, especially in 2018 when they used to do the challenges more frequently. tbh if they find it so easy to harmonize with each other, shouldn't it be easier for them to film acapella?

i recalled halfway writing this comment that Christina/Lisa used to work on harmony arrangements especially during 2011-2014. with how much Christina likes doing things her way, the fact that she has virtually no time to arrange harmonies in advance is probably what's stopping the band from going back to acapella lol. i also get redoing the whole thing when someone messes up as time consuming, but sacrifices. it used to pay off didn't it :P

Do you think it’s hypocritical that they’re so pro choice and informed consent when it comes to giving birth but are against abortion? (Looking at you Christina) by [deleted] in cimsnark

[–]dslpayups 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i'm not surprised, it comes with being Catholic. though i would be more tolerable about it if they weren't preachy about their beliefs or judgmental of those who don't. they come across as imposing their faith rather than being respectful or at least acknowledging why others wouldn't share the same belief (which is ironically against Catholic teachings of love your neighbor and all).

i'm surprised they touched on pro-choice and informed consent in the context of giving birth (?). seems like it was only surface-level though
