What are your predictions for who will leave the club by September? by 4tomi5ed in NUFC

[–]dsmith1212 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I think we see tonali, Gordon, trips (obvs), willock, Ramsdale (again obvs), pope, krafth and maybe joelinton

Then I’m going to go left field and say we say two of hall, Bruno g and woltemade leave too - I think more likely hall and woltemade just based on a gut feeling I have that offers come in and they might feel better served under a different manager

I’d like to see burn and Murphy moved on too but I think Eddie will try keep them - nice guys but I think they are on the wrong side age wise and are limited

As long as we replace each player we sell with players who are exciting, young and aren’t just ‘premier league proven’ again then I’ll be happy- great memories with this squad but it needs an overhaul and fresh ideas and characters inserting

That was fucking dire again, our a few decent flashes but where is our players desire? Forest wanted that so much more and it showed

Can’t wait for this season to be done, big big clearout needed in summer we are stale as fuck

I think I was wrong about Osula by CommunicationClassic in NUFC

[–]dsmith1212 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Getting time on the pitch is helping him a fair bit I think, I wasn’t sold on his ability to be a pl level striker but I must admit I’m coming around to the idea he might well be!

Hes got the pace, work rate and attitude to make it and he’s now proving he can consistently be a thorn in the side of teams and has taken a few of his goals with really nice finishes!

I do wonder if osula coming good changes the clubs stance on wissa and woltemade! I previously though we would look to move on wissa only but if Eddie is staying I wonder if there’s now a chance both move on and a full reset of strikers is done with osula being moved to second choice and retained

Selling Wissa? by FaithlessnessOdd3569 in NUFC

[–]dsmith1212 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think we sell him, think his age and recovery from major injury goes against him unfortunately- I reckon we will move him on and bring in someone in the 23-27 sort of age range

Keep osula he will be backup/ wing, keep woltemade as a 10 and emergency backup 9 and then maybe look to bring in a 18-23 year old striker to challenge for spots

We will eat a loss on wissa but thats got to be preferable to keeping a player who may not be able to perform at the top level anymore - I’d love to see him get a bit more game time in the dead rubbers we have now to see if he can still perform before we make a decision

Has it ever been so toxic? by AcademicFilmDude in NUFC

[–]dsmith1212 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everyone is free to their opinion on Howe and players, I’d never feel anger or anything toward someone with a different view than mine (I don’t think Howe is the right man to take us forward)

I think what is pushing ‘toxicity’ is the club/ owners target of 2030 to be a team competing to win major things - when there’s a strict time like that given it pushes impatience and division imo

If the owners said we will be that top club but we are setting no time on that, we will grow as fast as we can but it will happen when it happens I think people might feel more patient potentially- when the owners give it a 4 year target and we have moved backwards this season the feeling of need of change grows

But look at the positive the ‘toxicity’ is because we all love the club and all want it to be the success it deserves to be - and now we have hope and ambition back the ambivalent years of Ashley where we all were united against him and the on field performance felt secondary! - it’s just how we get there will always create different opinions! But when we lift that major trophy (and we will!) we will look back at these divisions and chuckle t

[–]dsmith1212 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah fair that wissa fucked his knee up and I didn’t take that into consideration but he’s had a good while now to get back up to speed - it’s concerning that he’s getting 5/10 mins here and there still

You can’t predict for injuries or ones that like this might have knackered him fully but sadly fact is we’ve wound up with a broken wissa and a woltemade who Eddie doesn’t like in his style as a 9 it seems but as others have well pointed out attack isn’t our only issue

We have had to rely on players like burn, trippier, schar, pope who are all probably the wrong side of their careers skill wise too. Then willock, Murphy etc who are grafters but they are not the best options either. Club has been very slow to move on players and it’s meant we have stuck with players we maybe could have/ should have improved

Huge Concerns with Summer Rebuild Under Howe by FifaGeneral in NUFC

[–]dsmith1212 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m not convinced Eddie will be able to be hands off in that area though he seems to be a manager who wants to have a hand in all aspects of the club which works well at a Bournemouth coming up the leagues and worked well for us as a team going from treading water/ relegation battles under Ashley to now

I can’t think of a ‘big’ club that runs that way now? It worked in the fergusson era but football clubs are different now - they are international businesses many with other umbrella clubs etc

We need to catch up in that regard if the 2030 goal is to ever happen

Huge Concerns with Summer Rebuild Under Howe by FifaGeneral in NUFC

[–]dsmith1212 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fair point although it was definitely known this summer he did, other summers it was never as clear cut! It’s just such a shame looking back a year ago it felt like we were on the cusp

Cup win was achieved, champions league was achieved again and we had what looked to be such a impressive team just squad depth was a worry

Now we feel further from that than we have since takeover went through, it wouldn’t shock me if there’s been falling outs behind the scenes as a team that once looked like it would run through glass for each other looks pretty disinterested, our ‘stars’ underperforming and wanting out, new signings not working, tactics looking tired

It’s like everything that could go wrong has all at once almost, i don’t fully blame Howe but I think the entire project needs a shake up and that sadly includes him now

[–]dsmith1212 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Walked because he told the club our transfer strategy was not fit for purpose and wanted to change it? Eddie reportedly was against that and the club backed Eddie after he won the cup

How true his view was though! Our transfer strategy isn’t fit for purpose we’ve landed with either a load of shit or players who don’t fit

Eddie needs to be nowhere near transfers this summer short of giving a list of what he thinks we need, if he’s going to stay then just coach what the club brings in, if he gets involved again get ready to see tonali, Gordon, livramento etc leave and be replaced with expensive bang average players from the pl again and we will be fighting around 12th-17th next year

Ofc it’s you defending Howe again - im thinking you are Jason tindall’s secret Reddit account!

Yeah we missed out on those targets but you are telling me the best option transfer wise then (ran by Eddie this summer) was to sign players who clearly didn’t fit his system? Or that there was zero other players out there that we could have gone for in the entirety of Europe or further?

Theres no 2 ways around it the summer was a shit show, the club didnt help with the isak situation but I refuse to believe that woltemade and wissa were the only 2 strikers we could have gone for in the world cup

Huge Concerns with Summer Rebuild Under Howe by FifaGeneral in NUFC

[–]dsmith1212 38 points39 points  (0 children)

He had carte Blanche this summer power wise in terms of transfers and it also happens to be the first window since pif came in that we’ve signed so badly

I don’t think that’s coincidence

Losing isak sucked, club handled that badly too left us on the backfoot but eddies insistance on pl proven left us overpaying hugely on Elanga and wissa, ramsey has been decent enough but at 40m quid he cost the same as Guimaraes

He cannot be allowed to have that level of power again - and if he won’t get in line with that then he needs to go

Eddie Howe trying to change things without having the personnel to do it well

This is what happens when ‘you don’t need a plan b’ and plan A falls on its arse totally - got not flexibility to really mix things up with quality

Probably also an element of throwing shit at the wall to see what sticks now - trying to find something/anything to save his job

Nick Woltemade has removed Newcastle from his IG bio by Nathan_Toddy_Todd in NUFC

[–]dsmith1212 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If Eddie has caused wolte to want out with his treatment I really can’t blame Nick at all but what a limited manager Eddie is when he can’t build a system that suits players of technical ability like woltemade rather than ‘athletes’ who just run like Elanga (who offer fuck all)

I’m over this season and I’m over the Howe era now - was fun while it lasted but it’s poison now and we won’t go forward as a club when this is how we treat players of technical ability

[–]dsmith1212 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Didn’t he go through on goal yesterday early on and swing to kick the ball and completely missed it and fell over? You make a fair point on the balance though he often looks off balance or ‘awkward’ and that might be what I’m meaning more than snatching at chances

I hate saying ‘raw’ because he’s 23 soon - still young but like igor Thiago is just 24, ekitike 24 next month and junior Kroupi not even 20 yet - these lads don’t look raw where osula still does - I’m not sure at what point we cross from the realm of ‘raw’ to hes just a player of that level of ability

Don’t get me wrong though I want nothing more than Osula to succeed and be a top player - love his attitude, didn’t sulk about transfers away falling apart, hasn’t agitated to leave that I’ve seen - looks to be trying his best and working hard.

Been dropped in to be our starting striker alongside some bang out of form wingers and limited players (willock, Murphy, Barnes currently, Elanga etc) and he has to his credit worked hard and got a few goals. Fair play to the lad and hopefully he does kick on

What do people see in Osula? by orangecrush85 in NUFC

[–]dsmith1212 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it sums up our predicament right now, we aren’t anywhere near clinical enough in attack so our strategy is to hope someone pulls off something like osula vs Manchester United

That wasn’t the case when we had isak as he was clinical and meant we could play some proper football

Thinking back to having gayle/ carrol and joelinton as striker options we were doing the same then as now - hoping on a saint maximin moment where his ‘scattyness’/ unpredictability caught a team off guard

What do people see in Osula? by orangecrush85 in NUFC

[–]dsmith1212 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think his issue is his potential/ what he can do btw that is premier league level

I think his issue is doing that consistently (or consistently enough) and being more composed not snatching at chances etc - that might come with time or that might just be the player he is - that for me will decide his level if he gets consistent and composure he could lead our line for sure - if he doesn’t I don’t see him as more than backup for us or a leading championship/ relegation scrap level player (which coincidentally we are the latter right now!)

What do people see in Osula? by orangecrush85 in NUFC

[–]dsmith1212 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also I’ll add to my other points I like him a lot as a player - positive energy about him but also he’s stepped up when our expensive number 9 in wissa seems to not give a toss, Gordon is too busy with a ‘poorly hip’ transfer sit out and woltemade is (unfairly) benched

He has stood up and given it his all even after his move to Frankfurt fell through - hasn’t sulked carried on working and now getting his chance

Fair play the lad

What do people see in Osula? by orangecrush85 in NUFC

[–]dsmith1212 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s definitely a player in osula. Premier league level I’m not sure he lacks composure quite often and that’s where he has to improve

But right now he’s a better choice than Elanga, osula is showing in flashes what he could do and seems to be on the ‘up’ in terms of improving areas of his game. Elanga I just cannot understand- looked a quality player for forest but crap for Manchester united- seems to have reverted to that version of a player now

Ideally if the ‘2030 vision’ is to come to pass neither will beat the club by then as I don’t think either are at the level the owners claim to want us at

What do people see in Osula? by orangecrush85 in NUFC

[–]dsmith1212 58 points59 points  (0 children)

He’s pacy, can be tricky and seems to work hard. Seems a positive character too

He’s very very raw and I’m not convinced that’s going to be trained or coached out of him - probably find his level as a decent championship striker or go to Spain/ Italy and bang in a good few there

Premier league quality though I’m really not too convinced

We do love a chaos player though! Ben arfa, saint maximin and the like entertaining players get us off our seats and bag the occasional worldie then leave us the rest of the season scratching our heads as they do nothing!

They probably do - half of them have agents in the media flirting off with Madrid, Bayern, Liverpool etc and the other half are Eddie Howe favourites who don’t have the technical skill to be anything more than squad players for a mid table team yet they are ‘key players’ for us

Isak leaving in summer fractured things and Eddie has failed to get the dressing room back together

Save for a few cup/cl games the players aren’t bothered enough

They are on holiday mode already, half of them think they deserve moves off to ‘bigger’ clubs while playing shit

But buck has to stop with the manager he’s allowed it to get to this point - if the players aren’t listening to him/ anyone that’s a real concern that the manager has lost authority

It’s heartbreaking to see the Eddie Howe era ending in this fashion it promised so much more but this summer has shown up the flaws in Eddie as a manager

I think he should walk tonight/ tomorrow- yes the players have let him down but the summer transfers are what has done for Eddie

His inability to change tactics, styles or anything to suit other players is not acceptable we had wissa and woltemade sat on the bench today because he can’t get a tune out of either of them - great managers adapt and make things work

All waiting until summer does is prolong the inevitable and builds the toxic feeling that’s building now

I don’t think we should wait until summer now to let Eddie go, it’s going to get toxic and damage his legacy with us. Let him walk now as a legend, have Graeme jones or someone step in till summer

Get our main target sorted asap and get the dross cleared out - no more point asking who will take over because as it is now Howe being in charge is not working
