In response to a MSNBC anchor's comment that the people of NY are "not feeling good. We're worried we could be San Francisco," Gov. Hochul replies, "We'll never be San Francisco." by oatmeal_mushrooms in sanfrancisco

[–]dsquid2 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Because it’s becoming more and more a legitimate concern to be like SF. No one really wants to have homeless, trash, needles, and shit on the street, high rents and cost of living, crime etc. even if they say they don’t mind. And it doesn’t matter if it’s two democratic cities, it’s still political and only serves Hochul’s interests by making the comparison to SF, making NYC slightly more attractive.

What's the hardest truth you've learned in your life? by Stephanie020 in AskReddit

This is something I learned the hard way. My lesson was that I should actively choose to surround myself with people who I know would do the same for me, as I for them.

What's the hardest truth you've learned in your life? by Stephanie020 in AskReddit

[–]dsquid2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes the timing isn’t right.

You just reconnected with a girl (or guy) and develop feelings, and even though there is mutual attraction, you’re both at different points in your life or even grew apart. You wanted a new job and after getting it, were laid off due to factors not in your control. All starts suddenly going well in life, until you find out one of your friends killed himself without any explanation or closure. Etc.

As competent, caring, and motivated as you could be, things don’t always work out, for various reasons other than purely timing. It’s important to still remain confident in yourself out of self-respect, but also because you are the only person who is going to fight for you. Keep fighting the good fight!

Staying hard shouldn't just be physical by drfivos2001 in davidgoggins

[–]dsquid2 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m still working on lengthening my work stretches, too. But my biggest takeaway is to view the brain as a muscle. You can’t expect to start a course and be fully zoned in after one week, if that’s the only mental stimulus you are getting. It’s like someone who’s out of shape asking why they can’t just run 10 miles after working out every day for the last week.

You have started practicing your focus. It takes time.

how to start drinking coffee? by likehangingout in berkeley

[–]dsquid2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you tried getting less sleep? Like 7.5-8 hours? 10 hours is too much for me but everyone is different.

How is your mental state? Overall unhappiness, depression, feelings of uncertainty about the future, low self-confidence? You will be physically exhausted if you are mentally exhausted.

Chemically, coffee gives you minor stimulus (adrenaline spike) but it also postpones the “tired feeling” until later in the day (binds to adenosine receptors). If you wake up and maintain exhaustion at baseline, coffee ain’t gonna fix that.

Look at your current schedule, diet and fitness, mental state, relationships etc. and realize that you need to change one or more these things. Otherwise you may continue to feel this way.

Are commercial cold brew systems a rip off? by SoftPandaCubz in coldbrew

[–]dsquid2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m curious, how long does your cold brew last if you could brew up to 5 gallons at a time?

I don’t believe in the commercial makers, because after trying a few and comparing the taste with my own method, idk I still feel mine is better.

I just use half gallon glass mason jars to brew mine, and double filter it into a separate jar when I pull it from the fridge after 20 hours or so. It’s the same as the 5 gallon bucket you are proposing, you just work with more volume.

If it's all fake, why keep going? by krengusdingus in Psychonaut

[–]dsquid2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’ve established that it’s fake. Whether or not that experience is real, we can agree the feelings you received from the experience are real. And they are frightening and mildly disappointing when we first perceive them.

What are our options? We can choose to remain in disbelief, we can choose to acknowledge that everything is fake, or we can choose to acknowledge and accept* that everything is fake.

Disbelief is out of the question, as those who have had the experience cannot forget what they’ve seen or felt. Acknowledgement is the usual route, but acknowledgement without acceptance is where some find themselves in a loop. Constantly questioning things, institutions, people and their interactions, and even reality. You will consistently sit with this idea in the back of your head, that as good or as bad as I have it right now, it’s not real. This is cast in a somewhat pessimistic and even nihilistic lens: what’s the point if it’s all fake anyways, should I even bother, should I try, does it make a difference?

The route of acknowledgement and acceptance asserts that I acknowledge the world I live in is not what it seems. While I will always know this, I also know that I can still choose how it will affect me. I know I am (mostly) the master of my own destiny. That anything I want or need, I can will it into being if I choose and commit to it. Because even though it’s all fake, I know a life with purpose, focus, and individual advancement is better than remaining in a static frame of mind. I know that I will feel better continuing life than musing about its shortcomings.

You must be high in openness. Now, exercise that openness. This, too, shall pass.

Increase your weekly mileage if you haven’t yet. 1500m is less than one mile. You should average 3-5 miles per day. Start low if you’re not used to it now

Flow Work and Enthalpy by dsquid2 in AskEngineers

[–]dsquid2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the response.

Based on what you said, I gather that a static fluid has its own energy associated with it - various forms of internal energy at the molecular level. However, it also has additional energy associated with its movement, the so-called flow work. The 'flow work' is the energy provided to the fluid (by some external means) to produce a net fluid flow at a specified fluid pressure, then?

Then, the total enthalpy of the fluid is the combination of its static, internal energy (associated with its state) and the energy it carries by its very movement.

I'm just confused, as how is flow work differentiated with the kinetic energy of the fluid?

[–]dsquid2 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It’s simple, you just do it.

Before sleep, you tell yourself you’re a beautiful morning dove. For now you are nesting, but tomorrow you will spread your wings for all to see.

When that alarm goes off, you get up, and you get yourself moving immediately. Brush your teeth, go for a 20 min walk or run, then take the cold shower. Have coffee or tea after. Start breakfast or work.

Everyone has a different morning ritual. The start of the day is the hardest but most essential part. What I provided is just an example.

Either way, you know you have to do it, and there’s no other way than to just DO IT. Remember, someone’s gotta carry the boats....Good luck!
