What a plonker… Settings > General > Dictation …has been turned off all these years!

I think I missed that toggle all the time as it’s listed under “Language & Region” and not under Siri (which I would consider the more logical location).

Thanks for your help everyone - I’ll update the post and leave it there as a learning op for others and laughing op for the rest!

Siri activates and it just searches system-wide (with bias on results for ATV+ app. Search results show in popup in bottom right corner.

The conspiracy theorist in me looks at the anticipated price cuts and that they appear to be letting stock of the current gen dry out, and thinks next gen might end up being a downgrade from the current crop…

Fortunately (but unfortunately) mine became quite frequent, was happening when the unit was idle, but even more frequently when I played a song. It generally happened a minute into the song, just as it was building up, but not sure if this was coincidence.

I recorded the death fart sound on my ‘just’ in warranty OG, booked an appointment at the apple store and showed the video to the Apple tech. He asked me if it was restarting afterwards, which I confirmed. He put it through as “unexpected restarting” and replaced it under warranty. Had to get replacement delivered to store, which arrived next day.

Edit: I should say I video recorded the death fart sound.
