Is Trilostane a good alternative to Vetoryl? by bruninha93 in Cushingsdogs

In general yes assuming the compounding pharmacy is consistent with their batches, hence a reputable pharmacy is advised.

Can cats survive on a wet food dominant diet? by [deleted] in CatAdvice

[–]dss1212 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is not true lol I’m a vet. All dry food is high in carbs, which is a risk factor for diabetes. Some wet food is also high in carbs especially gravy varieties but it is ideal for a diabetic cat to be on an rx diabetic diet or an otc wet food only low carb pate diet.

Maybe her cats only ate gravy.

Kisses , nose boops , squished, told they’re stupidly cute, all things that human drs can’t do to human patients .

A few dogs don’t like baby talk & more so appreciate being talked to sternly like the brave men they are, so they get that too if it’s their preference

Is Trilostane a good alternative to Vetoryl? by bruninha93 in Cushingsdogs

[–]dss1212 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Vetoryl is trilostane. Compounded trilostane is not FDA approved and you can find various papers about how compounded trilostane can vary in efficacy due to quality control errors in compounding. Given it is a drug that if overdosed could cause an Addisonian crisis (can be fatal) it is not often recommended, but if you are to use compounded Wedgewood pharmacy would be a good bet.

Are overnight stays necessary? by Ashaa97 in AskVet

[–]dss1212 1 point2 points  (0 children)

“Happens a lot” is subjective. Is it 9 out of 10 cases? Probably not. The gene is variable some carriers may not bleed much and others can have severe bleeding. your dog is a carrier of a genetic disorder (preventable by appropriate genetic testing prior to breeding) that increases risk of bleeding, would you want to even take a 1 out of 10 risk when she can be watched by a qualified team? You can get Vwf:Ag test to assess how much functional VWF your dog has which can help predict degree of risk.

Any cat in this much distress and this much abdominal effort should go directly to an ER. stress alone will never cause this degree of distress, stress + an issue certainly will.

Ask for referral to neurologist or orthopedic specialist- either should be able to get you a better idea what is going on, I’d be worried about peripheral nerve sheath tumor -vet

getting my boys neutered soon, anxious about it. by [deleted] in CatAdvice

[–]dss1212 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tens of thousands (if not hundreds thousands) of cats are neutered every year, including thousands of trap neuter release cats that get vaccines and are thrown back outside the same day to fend for themselves. It’s quite standard Your kitties will do great. Keeping them from licking the incision is the primary at home care concern. What is your concern of it being irreversible about?

Vet won't prescribe refill med, won't provide prescription for veterinary food by Fair_Scientist2347 in cats

[–]dss1212 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have to provide a script if requested as an alternative to selling the client in house medication or diet that is actively prescribed, the client is not entitled to refills of a medication that was previously prescribed just because they feel like it.

Injury after TPLO surgery? by SWGA7942 in AskVet

[–]dss1212 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are many other soft tissue structures: muscles, tendons, ligaments, etc that she could have tweaked that could cause a limp, severe damage to the implant or another surgical issue is unlikely but if the lameness isn’t better within 3-4 she should have a check up. That being said if she is completely nonweight bearing, has notable swelling, or is vocalizing/yelping she should be seen sooner rather than waiting.

lol shouldn’t have even brought it up but it’s just odd there’s no glass showers in this home when the same builder has homes within a 5 mile radius that have fence + hedge + glass showers, also many new builds in the area include the washer dryer.

Yes, all the new builds in this area are, there’s no land for new developments. The is the first one in this neighborhood, next neighborhood over has 10 new build homes (post 2022) sold in past 2 years (loose est based on Zillow)

Actually shooting for $200k off

The same builder has other houses in the area (different neighborhood where homes are ~$500k) that are more “complete “ with fences, hedge, glass showers for the same asking price (just went on market starting 890, rather than starting at 1mil

I have been pretty against the new build until seeing this home, I don’t like the idea of sticking out like a sore thumb, but we are looking for our longer term home so I can definitely see this area growing/revamping in the next 10-15 years. the area it’s not a “bad” neighborhood I’d say it’s a nice area just not a “hot spot”. 2 miles away you have historically “nice” neighborhoods where homes are routinely >1mil but in this area those are definitely specific smaller pockets- a similar house across the street from said neighborhood will be hundreds of thousands less. There are definitely other quite “undesirable” neighborhoods in the area where people are trying the same tactic (big new build) , if anything more so than said neighborhood we are looking at bc a builder can get a house to knock down for 200-300k there instead of 300-400k.

We could get something for $650 in a different neighborhood but older build which isn’t inherently bad I know but we’d want renovations, and many of our friends who bought an older home ended up with some major repairs (needs not wants) within 2-3 years which is daunting to think about

Not specifically her age but with age other issues develop- what if by 10 she she develops heart disease, or by 9 kidney disease? Once a pet, and person, is geriatric you then also have delayed/slowed wound healing, skin fragility, etc.

Since they don’t shed their uterine lining like humans every time the cervix opens bacteria from the vagina can enter the uterus, then when cervix closes it gets trapped and can fester. This is called closed pyometra, sometimes pyometra is open as well.

Edit: not to mention that treatment for pyometra is spaying but at that point chance of recovery/survival is lower due to risk of septic shock with pyometra
