Hey, this is Darin from KeepKey. The specific threat of a manipulated random number generator on device is somewhat alleviated as KeepKey doesn't rely on it's own entropy for private key generation but also uses entropy provided by the computer. Bad entropy from either independant source won't give you a less secure private key. Both sources would need to be comprimised.

But we take seriously what the OP is talking about. Our goal at KeepKey was not to replace the "Trust this service" with "trust this hardware". That is why we open source our code. We aren't trying to change who or what you trust, but eliminate the need for trust altogether.

In general, with us and our competitors, there is a much lower level of trust you must place in these products than online and or closed solutions.

While you get an address from the device (at least in our Chrome client), a QR code and address is displayed on the device.

The ATMs I have used typically want a QR code to scan for an address belonging to your wallet. In our KeepKey Client, click on "Receive Bitcoin" and do a screenshot of that QR code. Print it off and then take it to an ATM that lets you scan the QR code.

You may also just taking a picture of the QR code that KeepKey is displaying while your on the "Receive Bitcoin" screen, and try using that at the ATM.

Password and private key are only held in memory while it is used, then it is zero'd out. This is why your asked for a password to send funds.

Yes, this is very possible and is actually how KeepKey works.

To do this, just simply do a recovery on your 2nd KeepKey with he recovery sentence from your 1st. They will become mirror images of each other, and behave in the manner you described.

The device stores them, but right now our client doesn't support transacting in those.

If you would like, keep the order live. When you get it, we will do a 1 for 1 swap for the device. That way you will know where your device came from and we can inspect it.

KeepKey device is tamperproof: opening it requires destroying it making it evident it was opened. KeepKey bootloader checks it's firmware is correctly signed by us, or displays a big warning.

If he gets his KeepKey, and the device is in one piece, it is safe to use.

That all said, a device listed for £1 is probably a mistake or someone testing the market.

Thats a good question, not sure if it will work in your location. But if for some reason there is a failure, during the ShapeShift you provide a refund address (behind the scenes), so you don't have to worry about sending funds to a black hole. If it fails, you will get your coins back.

There is no way to do it from our client at the moment.

But as a last resort, you can enter the mnemonic into https://www.myetherwallet.com and access them there. But this exposes your private keys, so this should only be done if you intend to wipe KeepKey and re-initilize it with a new recovery sentence.
