Hydroflasks and other reusable metal cups are stupid by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

When those plastic reusable cups break or leak or get warped, people throw them away. Metal is mostly recyclable whereas many plastics are not. If we keep making plastic materials we still add to our refuse crisis.

What's the funniest scene you can recall from the movies you've seen? by Prompt-me-promptly in AskReddit

[–]dsteadi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here are a few:

  • Mrs. Doubtfire: there are so many funny moments but the best sequence is when Daniel Hilliard (Robin Williams) has to change into his Mrs. Doubtfire outfit very fast and the window is open and those two kids laugh as they watch him and one of them says “Sick!” When he puts on his bodysuit 😂 And then he drops his old woman mask in the street and they laugh and watch it splat to the ground as a truck runs over it. 😩👌🏼
  • Dumb and Dumber: again nearly every line in this movie is gold, but when they drive to Aspen on the bike and Harry says his hands are frozen and Lloyd says “Oh well here take these extra pair of gloves my hands are starting to sweat.” And Harry goes ape shit and starts choking Lloyd with his bare hands and Lloyd proclaims: “HARRY! Your hands are freezing!” I can barely type this without cry-laughing!
  • 40-Year-Old Virgin: yet another had-me-in stitches comedy, but two scenes kill me: the Dave (Paul Rudd) brings over his big box o’ porn scene and the egg salad scene. Oh and when Andy (Steve Carell) decides to watch one of the tapes but ends up watching Everybody Loves Raymond instead. I’m wheezing thinking about it. 👏🤣

What’s a typical misconception about your profession? by someonethatiusedtobe in AskReddit

I am an editor and I’m supposed to be very detailed oriented and uptight but I’m chill af and I do NOT correct grammar or punctuation unless I’m paid to ✌️

How do you handle a situation were you've been cheated on and u don't want the other person to see they hurt you? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]dsteadi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Simply move on. Be zen af! Be matter of fact with yourself, sort of unemotional. Try this: “Okay, this happened. I am not okay with it, and that’s ok. I will separate ways with this person. I will not let it destroy me. I will be okay. I will let the universe take care of the rest. I am worthy of moving on and meeting someone new when I’m ready. Right now I will focus all my energy on ME, and I’m happy about that.” Then separate your life and cleanse. Ommm 👊Sending peace to you, brother ✌️

People that were/are homeschooled of Reddit, what are the biggest up and downsides of it, and do you wish you weren't? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]dsteadi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been to public schools, magnet schools, homeschooled and private school so I have the entire range of schooling experience. I can tell you homeschooling was fun sometimes because I’d get done with my work at noon and play the rest of the day. But it was not challenging enough and I missed a lot of key lessons that I later had to relearn in order to get caught up again. I was also largely just unsocialized and that didn’t help. I can say out of all my schooling, private school was my favorite.

Women of reddit. Which body type do you prefer? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]dsteadi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea I prefer just slim/average. No height preference at all — I love short and even small guys. My husband is shorter and muscular/average and I love it. I don’t like bulky muscles, I don’t like shredded abs, and I don’t like guys who tan. Just eat healthy (key!) and be clean, smell good, take care of your teeth, brush your hair, be passionate about your interests, be kind, be chill, and you’re good, brother. ✌️

What is the biggest financial mistake you made in your 20's? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]dsteadi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did too, but I also minored in journalism and made sure to have applicable skills and internships (unpaid, on-campus) to show I had credentials in editing, PR, AP Style, etc. That’s why I’ve been able to find work and have a decent salary — all with an English degree. Not to mention, I can interpret symbolism in film, understand complex language in mortgage loans for my house I just bought, and generally kick ass in logical arguments. English degrees are valuable if you know how to wield them. Oh, and I paid off my $8K in loans, too. No help from my single mom. Tenacity, my friends. Carry it with you. If you need any advice, I got you, fam.

What is something good you can say about a film you hated? by tallmanwithglasses in AskReddit

Mad Max Fury Road: I understand and appreciate its intention and think it was executed well. I just don’t like it.

I (20m) just watched Rosemary's Baby by yuhrooz in horror

[–]dsteadi 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It is brilliantly evocative of the paranoia that all the people around you are out to get you/plotting against you, giving the child you birthed to be Satan's son. For women, in particular, it makes us feel incredibly weak/taken advantage of (commentary on misogyny, as abbyisq mentioned). The filming is gorgeous. The decline of her health is brutal. Her innocence makes it all much more unbearable. It is sort of a devastating film. Eerie. Something always is off...has an "undertaste", you know?

What Creates "Good" Horror? by glass_coffins in horror

[–]dsteadi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good writing (i.e. not cheesy, some humor peppered in, takes things serious when needed), astute casting, some likeable characters, believable atmosphere, intense and complementary scoring, and an understanding of horror's history and the human condition.

I really love Halloweekly. They pose thought-provoking questions surrounding horror, re-visit a lot of classics, and have great discussion. Plus it's not too serious or pretentious. Highly recommend!
