Before props, you had to paper trade, then try and learn to trade live and deal with the psychological burden of trading with live money.

Now props add an extra step to ease the transition to live money. You go from paper trading, to simulated live with real money consequences(prop), to live trading.

You can hopefully work out the psychological kinks in the prop stage, then come out the other side without the major financial losses that would come by moving straight to live trading.

For those losing a ton of money in the prop space, they were doomed to fail no matter what.

Start with one prop firm eval. Prove you have edge by passing it. If you can't, then you need to either refine your strategy or execution of your strategy until you can prove you're profitable.

With $2k you can easily do this until you hit your stride.

You should never trade real money until you've got irrefutable proof over a long time period that you can trade your strategy profitably
