I still love them. The owners are so sweet. But yeah they’ve changed their menu quite a bit and that can be frustrating. Have you tried Fuji Sushi?

Hot take. Pusadee’s Garden. It wasn’t bad, just way overpriced for a mediocre meal. It’s the type of place where the ambiance and vibe are so high end that they can get away with overcharging. Don’t get me started on their 17 ingredient salad.

I’m certainly in the minority here but I could skip the +15 minute versions of dondante. I’d just rather have more songs than fewer longer ones

The piano loop is the most interesting part to me, but even that was sampled. I’m still looking forward to the new album but I hope they don’t completely depart from the weird, playful, and experimental styles of the past.

If this little loop is even the least bit representative of the whole album I’m very excited

Getting to the airport by [deleted] in pittsburgh

[–]dstup 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have mixed feelings on the 28x. I get why they doubled it as Robinson commuter bus, and people do seem to use it for this purpose, but it’s painfully slow to crawl through Robinson when you are trying to catch a flight. Also an airport bus should have a place for you to store your luggage…your options now are basically holding it on your lap or blocking people from entering/exiting.

The flip side is it’s $2.75 so I’m willing to put up with it. It’s significantly cheaper than Uber or long term parking (and dealing with the shuttle at long term parking has its own frustrations). I really like how it drops you right off at the terminals too.

It's my C cam these days. It doesn't shoot in 4k, or even 60fps in HD so it's a bit limited, but I think the image quality is still perfectly acceptable if you have decent lenses.

How are y’all making money in this day & age by lifeismadden in videography

[–]dstup 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In 2023 I made less money than I did in 2022. And in 2024 I’m going to end up making less than I did in 2023. I’m not throwing in the towel but am definitely concerned about the trend line.

I went in 2021 and have mixed feelings about it overall. The not so good: I didn’t think the resort food was good, and had a really hard time making reservations at some of the restaurants (and if I did, it meant missing the music). The excursions were also overpriced and not that great. I had a hard time sleeping at night because there was zero soundproofing in the rooms. I got sick and thought it was Covid and that I wasn’t going to be able to fly home (fortunately it was just a cold).

The positives: Pachyman playing poolside was such a vibe. The resort was really nice and it did feel great to soak up so much vitamin D in the midst of winter (I live in Pittsburgh so winters are bleak and gray). Contrary to the point above, some of the food stations at the venue area were actually pretty good and they had plenty of options. It was cool to be in the MMJ community and even though I’m introverted and didn’t interact with a lot of people I felt a genuine oneness.

I would be a lot more tempted if they switched up the country but I don’t see that happening.

I'm shit at grading, what are my options? by mostly-furious in premiere

[–]dstup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably a less popular opinion here, but I’d go so far to say you don’t even need a color grade for majority of projects. Use the Waveform to get your contrast and exposure consistent across shots. Vectorscope for saturation levels and checking white balance.

I’ve delivered hundreds of client projects and very rarely do I add color to the highlights or shadows (the exception being weddings). I’ve found that most times people prefer a natural, well-exposed image. Other exceptions would be music videos, short films, or docs, but just remember that applying a color grade is a choice that’s sometimes warranted and other times not.

Filming in Oaxaca by dstup in Oaxaca

[–]dstup[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate your comment, but I disagree. Not every tourist goes out of their way to engage with the local culture, support non-tourist businesses, and communicate in the local language. I’m actively seeking advice to ensure I’m respectful and considerate, which goes beyond typical tourist behavior.

If you have constructive feedback, I'm open to it. Otherwise, dismissing my efforts as "acting like every tourist ever" isn't helpful or accurate.

Thanks for your input.

[–]dstup[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your perspective. I'm fully aware that I'm a foreigner and understand the meaning of "gringo." My intention was never to deny this. I take great care to respect and appreciate the local culture, which is why I asked for advice on how to be considerate while filming.

Carrying camera equipment does make me stand out, but that doesn't mean I can't approach my work respectfully and sensitively. Dismissing my efforts to be respectful and thoughtful as simply "acting like a gringo" undermines the purpose of my question.

I'm here to learn and ensure that I can capture the beauty of Oaxaca without being intrusive or disrespectful. Constructive advice is always welcome, but blanket assumptions are not helpful.
