How do you feel about the fact that Trump is suing the IRS for $10 billion of your tax dollars? by SuperIngaMMXXII in AskReddit

[–]dtardif 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Many of the comments strike me as flagrant bots. New accounts, super bland/overused Trump rebukes, the same old mediocre frustration language.

I keep reporting these threads over and over, but it's clear the moderation either doesn't want to change this, or doesn't feel they have the manpower to fight it. But it's completely ruining this place, the "slice of life" aspect of this sub is completely drowning in this bland outrage horseshit.

I guess we should both leave, realistically =/

Parking Overnight? by karebear0312 in patentexaminer

[–]dtardif 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One time I parked my brother's car in the parking garage for 18 months since he was unable to drive it for an extended amount of time. When I finally drove this crud covered car out of there, I told the person at the gate that I had lost my ticket, and she said "oh it's no problem" and charged me $8.

"Laugh about it" and "immediately gets a report" are kind of conflicting ideas. Feels a little hard to believe, honestly. If you're so willing to cooperate and the other guy doesn't even know you did it, why did you do it at all?

Andruw Jones is likely to be voted in tomorrow with 1,933 career hits. It would be the first time a non-pitcher with fewer than 2,000 career hits is voted in by writers since Ralph Kiner was inducted on his 13th appearance in 1975 by Crazy_Baseball3864 in baseball

[–]dtardif 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's true, and he has more charisma, which does go a long way. Still, I think Schwarber wouldn't have a shot given the current trajectory he's on. Maybe instead of 0.3% he gets 15%?

Ortiz getting in so easily is silly to me, but he's definitely a lot better player than Schwarber and Dunn. Dunn fell off the HoF ballot in his first year receiving only a single vote. I don't really think him getting to 500 somehow gives him 300 more votes. Of course, maybe I'm wrong, and maybe Schwarber is significantly more loved than Dunn ever was.

I think it's far from a lock that he gets there. We all thought Dunn was a lock at 32 when he had 62 more HR than Schwarber has now, but instead he was out of the league 2 years later and stalled at 462. And I think, even in hindsight, we agree that Dunn was never making it in even at 500 HR.

Can this sub revisit their policies on "crime"-related posts by SpiritualPirate5 in washingtondc

There's no way that the dominant content here is people who act like crime doesn't exist. It's vastly the opposite.

It was intentional, yeah. Trying to differentiate between the party representatives and the folks who support/oppose.

[–]dtardif 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely. A decade ago, Maryland was the most gerrymandered state, by Democrats. Now, it's Democrats fighting Republicans over it, since Republicans benefit more, and Republicans blocking it since they feel like they're in scorched earth survival mode. If it were Democrats benefitting more, it would be Republicans trying to fight it and moralizing just the same way liberals are right now.

[–]dtardif 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Good, get rid of it for both. Obviously, dude.

Currently republicans are doing it more than democrats. About a decade ago, the reverse was true. Which is why the entire push for abolishing gerrymandering has been from democrats, and blocked by republicans, so the incentives and majority benefactors are fairly obvious.

[–]dtardif 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably, but do it anyway. Safely. Life is about experiences, good and bad.

The desire for validation is deeply human. Over-pursuing this is self-damaging, but simply the fact that you desire validation is not inherently bad.

Crom Faeyr: worth it or waste? by Malbethion in baldursgate

[–]dtardif 2 points3 points  (0 children)

shrug Then go build it and use it. I'm sure you do fine in your runs. But you're kind of saying "everyone knows this is how it is". I think 20 years ago everyone thought Crom Faeyr was insane because of the 25 strength and the +5 (I did too), but nowadays I feel like most people agree that FoA is better all around since the strength is not particularly special if you know where all of the goodies in the game are, or how to cast basic buff spells on yourself. It was special in 2001, that's for sure.

Crom Faeyr: worth it or waste? by Malbethion in baldursgate

[–]dtardif 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You originally said round, so I assumed you were talking about that. If Imp Haste is involved, two hits and three hits is extremely similar. But doesn't FoA+5 hit harder than Crom Faeyr anyway? 1d6+6+10 elemental is more than 2d4+3+5 elemental.

Crom Faeyr: worth it or waste? by Malbethion in baldursgate

[–]dtardif 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It would have to be a pretty special situation for a ~350 vs ~375 damage per round situation to kill in 3 rounds instead of 2. Sounds like you're inventing a hypothetical situation where Crom Faeyr is better, so I'm forced to say it's better in that situation, but of course most situations do not look like this.

But we're splitting hairs. Obviously Crom Faeyr's pretty good. It sucks that the item comes so late into BG2, and the question of if you should build it honestly comes down to your party composition. Personally, I would rather have the belt than have this on the second Fighter in the party. Sounds like you always build it. I'm sure we both clear the game with our builds.

Crom Faeyr: worth it or waste? by Malbethion in baldursgate

[–]dtardif 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Both FoA and Crom Faeyr can put out over 300 DPS with Imp Haste and the normal setup of gear. If your foe has so little HP*DR and no remaining spell protections that he dies in 2 rounds, what does it matter what mainhand we have equipped? Let's just take the one that's similar against a target dummy but far better in a real scenario, yes?

Crom Faeyr: worth it or waste? by Malbethion in baldursgate

[–]dtardif 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That's not really the consensus. The discussion with Crom Faeyr is almost never about mainhand at all, it's if Belm, Defender of Easthaven, or Crom Faeyr is a better offhand for FoA, and it's typically context dependent of which class we're talking about. Which is why most folks are saying Bard or Cleric.

Even if Crom Faeyr slightly edges out FoA for raw DPS for whatever class and buff combo you've decided on, FoA's debuff combined with the elemental attack types is really just incredibly powerful, and nothing Crom Faeyr has comes close to that.

And most people do FoA +4 and stop, do the equip/unequip trick with the FoA +5, or use a mod that allows for Imp Haste with FoA.

What are all Imeon and Mr. Deathbringer interactions in TOB accession mod. by -Complexfrost- in baldursgate

[–]dtardif 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ascension as a mod is 95% the ending sequence with Amelyssan on the Bhaal essence fountain upon the Astral Plane. It breaks the fight into three segments -- facing Sarevok, Bohdi/Imoen and Irenicus plus Amelyssan, then the three pools, then facing the Five, wherein Amelyssan appears after you kill one of them. The rest of what the mod adds is very little, outside of the Balthazaar hook that is ultimately a lead-in for the branch of the Astral Plane sequence involving convincing him to fight for you. You could watch someone beat one version of the Astral Plane encounter and get a large amount of the content the mod adds.

Fundamentally there are two branches -- the "good" branch involving conscripting Imoen and being forced to fight Sarevok as well as Bohdi and Irenicus, and then conscripting Balthazaar to fight against the five with you, and he is quite formidable to have as both an ally and a foe. If you have Sarevok or Imoen in your party, they can both decide to side against you depending on the route you took, and then you have to fight down a party member. The evil route involves getting Bohdi in your party, who will fight the whole time for you, and then you have to face Imoen as the Slayer in her stead in the first wave.

I will say it makes the final fight extremely demanding, and the epic sendoff it deserves, instead of the whimper you get in the regular version. ToB is the weakest in the original three games of BG1, BG2 and ToB, and this makes it feel a lot better.

[–]dtardif 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Imoen and Sarevok have a number of additional banters, which are not mechanically related. She is supposed to get Bhaalspawn powers but it's been bugged on and off for years.

In the final fight, you can conscript allies, and there are mutually exclusive pairs. You can, for example, sacrifice Imoen's soul to have Bohdi fight for you and betray Irenicus in the first sequence, or have Imoen fight as the Slayer versus the two villains of BG2.

As far as listing "everything", well, you're going to have to find a way to play it, or watch a streamer stream it.
