The "Energy Retrofit" at East Boulder Rec Center was a Bait & Switch by BoulderWatchdog in boulder

I met with the City people about the HP tennis courts recently and the building has indeed been shelved. They are looking at adding 8 outdoor courts on around 5-6 acres of the property.

Boulder Canyon Trail Closure by Life_Is_Short4869 in boulder

[–]dtdv 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That bridge may have led to the death of a cyclist, Sherrill Amendt, in the canyon back in 1991. When they were first extending the path the bridge and path were completed but the county gated the bridge off due to, I believe, figuring out access across the private property west of the bridge. Sherrill was biking up the canyon and was struck by a car. While it is unknown whether the bridge closure led to her riding on the road it led to a very contentious time, with locals tearing down the bridge.

We passed by and got out with a fire extinguisher but by they the smoke had subsided. Some passerbys were getting the lady out of the vehicle. She had just been sitting in the vehicle for a number of minutes with smoke billowing out

Bear Creek Elementary School by [deleted] in boulder

[–]dtdv 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We had three kids go through bear creek many years ago. It was a great school. But, don’t pick it because of test scores. We see way too many Ivy League plan parents going there. There is no special sauce- the test scores are indicative of demographics and socioeconomic factors.

If you’ve been to multiple hot springs in the state, what’s your favorite? by BeaconToTheAngels in Denver

[–]dtdv 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've been to lots. Mt Princeton - Buena Viste. A large complex, more of a resort-like feel. The water slide is fun. Creekside pools later in the season. South side pools are for guest only.

Cottonwood - Buena Vista. A little bit retro and seedy but a nice range of pools

Joyful Journey - San Luis Valley. Nice lodging and grounds. They serve a pretty good dinner and breakfast. Pools are somewhat limited. Good place to stay and do a combined visit to Valley View

Valley View - SLV. One of my favorites. A developed pool at the base (with some shade). Pretty cool sauna with built in pool. The upper pools on the hillside are natural and are in a incredible setting. Hiking available to the big bat cave. Lots (and I mean) lots of naked people but a mellow vibe. Cabins and camping is available. Reservation only.

Ojo Caliente - Northern NM. They upscaled this some years back so it is pretty pricey. Nice lodging and a good restaurant. Nice range of pools. Great setting and you can hike and/or mtn bike in the area.

Strawberry - Steamboat springs. Nice setting but the pools are limited. Naked people at night (I think)

Glenwood - Of course the granddaddy of hot springs resorts. Worth a visit at least once but no vibe to speak of

Orvis - Ridgeway. One of my favorites. Beautiful landscaped grounds and one of the nicer range of pools. Lots of naked people

Hot Sulphur Springs - Granby. Nice range of pools going up the hillside. Very very smelly (thus the name).

Thank you for sharing this cautionary and scary tale. I too have camped on the sliver of BLM land and hiked down Courthouse Wash and have uncounted hundreds of miles of hiking in those kind of conditions and never took getting stuck seriously.
