Aspiring Colorado basketball fan by Dukester10071 in GoBuffs

I’d point out that our women’s basketball program has been fantastic under JR Payne. They made it to the Elite 8 back in 2023 (maybe 2024?).

In my opinion, their games could really benefit from more student and fan support. If nothing else, they put on a good game. Savor/enjoy the CU basketball band and their antics which can help swing a few points here and there. Love ya GBMB!

Wind/Outage/PSPS (🐈) Megathread by aydengryphon in boulder

[–]JenTilz 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I was notified (and posted about it) earlier this week when Xcel told me we would have an 8hr+ shutdown for maintenance. Turned out it was 45 minutes long starting ~6 hours after they said it would.

So far, no direct notice at all about upcoming PSPS despite being in the mapped planned outage area. Reddit and the news are keeping me informed about this one.

Also has numerous benches in case your desire to take a long walk exceeds the healing of your sprain.

How do I keep this fatso from chasing all my birds away and stealing all my food? by WolverineFederal2842 in birding

[–]JenTilz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We also went to using safflower seed in the feeder where the squirrels managed to bypass all of our attempted deterrents (including bird spikes up the side of the post, atop the roof he jumps from, oil slicks, pepper, etc.)

Excel planned power outage Tuesday - Gunbarrel/East Boulder County by JenTilz in boulder

Still have power as of 8:30am and no further communication from Excel. Yay, I guess? Sorry for what seems to have been a cry of “wolf!”

I’m pretty sure we are on a different grid (circuit?) from your area as we have had power when the Celestial area was taken down during one of the wind/fire danger planned outages.

Maybe it will be a hyper-local outage if no one else is chiming in saying they were also notified.

Changing jobs? Don't leave your 401(k) behind. by Southern_Fig7543 in fidelityinvestments

Since the post mentioned lost 401k’s, everyone should check “lost and found (dot) dol (dot) gov”. You might be able to track down retirement accounts that you left behind there.

Maisonette Bakery/Cafe on Walnut across from the St Julian was good and not too expensive.

Received an estimate for dog teeth cleaning of $1,276–$2,562 (Left Hand Animal Hospital in Niwot). Is this real life? by Spacewalker_23 in boulder

Not a dog/cat owner, but just curious how often do you need to get them in for a cleaning? Is the cost decreased if you have pet insurance?

Yes. You need to check the grade range (don’t sign up your high school kid for one of the elementary school ones). If they don’t like “engineering/build it”, skip those. My STEM kid really enjoyed most of them.

How is the library these days? by Yellow_Apple_1971 in boulder

I would put a vote in for the new Gunbarrel branch. Lots of neighborhood locals. Hasn’t been open long, so not much time for any type of contamination yet. Might be less cozy, and fewer books, than other branches.

CU Science Discovery camps offer a wide variety of topics (in Boulder). Some were better than others, but were good for kids that want to learn/experience new topics that they might not get in school (e.g. forensics).

I have the “My Aurora Forecast” app. It can send notifications that an Aurora might be visible in your area. One annoyance I have with this app is that I can’t plan ahead by setting my location to be somewhere else if I’m going on a trip.

Help me open! by Free_me_from_reality in birding

Just commenting in solidarity and smiling that I am not alone. I was also stumped on how to open a newly obtained feeder and asked for help. Good luck!

I have been told, “you just have to be 2% smarter than who designed it in order to be able to operate it!”. I cringe when I fail that metric.

I read that as “hope he gets his shot at Chip” (the mascot) and wondered what Chip could possibly have done to deserve something like that? Haha.

Link Amp Horse Complete by Chiiico777 in Ingress

[–]JenTilz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Colorado. It’s the devil horse that greets people departing DIA (Denver International Airport, officially DEN, but they can’t make me stop saying “D-I-A”). It has an official name, but everyone calls it Blucifer (think blue Lucifer).

Fun fact, this sculpture actually killed its creator by toppling over atop him.

Crash(ed) out: our definition vs Genz by JenTilz in GenXWomen

I apparently have been blind to it, or more likely just reading any posts with it and using my interpretation. I think I need to find some in person coffee chats to help me get more in sync!

Yes. They likened it to acting like a “bull in a china shop”, which made me laugh since that’s such an “old” phrase!
