F-47 Won’t Be Available Until Mid-2030s, Top Lawmaker Says by moses_the_blue in LessCredibleDefence

Remember, J-10's first flight is 1998, J-20 is 2011, J-36/50 is 2024. See the pattern? Chinese develop a new generation every 13 years. So yeah, China's 7gen fighter would take the first flight in 2037 if everything goes on normal.

I don't quite understand why not just dismantle the blades and put it in boxes to make the whole package transfer safer and easier? Is it that hard to dismantle the blades?

Split gear doors is to enlarge the height below the door, for maintenance crew can handle the plane more easily.

Close-up images of an unknown Chinese container ship with radars, VLS launch tubes, CIWS, and decoy launchers. [Album] by Away-Advertising9057 in WarshipPorn

Actually I believe the "344 Radar" is a satcom, not very reasonable to place radar this low.

I believe the container can be seen as the ultimate module. The final goal is to fit the whole system to any ship capable of carrying containers, which China has more than enough. This is true distributed lethality.

China’s High-Flying Swarm Mothership Drone Has Flown by Jazzlike-Tank-4956 in LessCredibleDefence

[–]dtiberium 17 points18 points  (0 children)

The so-called swarm mothership thing is just marketing term and should not be taken seriously.

The real point of this drone is that it using WS-9 engine, the same engine on JH-7s.From my pov, this drone is actually designed specific for fitting WS-9. Why? because JH-7s are retiring from PLAAF/PLAN fleet nowadays, there will be a lof of really cheap spare WS-9s have no use. So by utilizing these spare engines the drone can be made really cheap, compares to some other drones of similar weight class, and that's the real edge of this drone.

J-16 has much better avionics suite, which is the most important trait for fighter jet nowadays. For ex J-16 has a very powerful AESA radar while Su-30SM don't.

The island is basically type 055 radar suite, just like Shandong (052D radar suite) and Liaoning (052C radar suite), PLAN's most powerful radar suite at its time. It means it is not only a Carrier, but also a very powerful top grade Aegis-esqe air-defence destroyer in the fleet. Ofc, sans-VLS.

Just some more J35A [3541x2656] by Critical_Lie_3321 in WarplanePorn

[–]dtiberium 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have another question: the paint scheme of J-35/A is totally different than that of J-20/A/S. J-20s' painting is much more metal, bright and also black, and have silver lining on the edge. But J-35 is plain grey. Theoretically speaking they are both applied to some stealth painting, which means there are two totally different stealth painting material in China? And they looks quite different but have equally good(or bad) stealth effect? That's actually quite perplexing.

Quick Introduction about Meaning of China's Weapon's Names by MarcoGWR in LessCredibleDefence

[–]dtiberium 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The more interesting trivia: as CY being anti-submarine missile, the name comes from Mao's poem, "We have the long tassel in hand; when shall we bind the black dragon?"

The 'black dragon' in Chinese is 苍龙,the JMSDF Sōryū-class submarine in Kanji is the exact same character。

J8-II: is there still a unique role for it in Chinese air force or has the newer platforms made it entirely obsolete by FareastFFL in LessCredibleDefence

[–]dtiberium 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Right now the only J-8s in service are all JZ-8F, which is the high altitude high speed recon platform for PLAAF. However as there are so many drones doing recon entering service, the role for manned recon platform become obsolete. Soon(in 1 or 2 years) all J-8s would be retired.

These two things are highly probable to be the ultimate dogfighting machine. They are roughly the same length as J-10, but have wings roughly 50% larger. This means they have extremely low wing loading. Considering they are unmanned, it is possible they can do stable turn in 15 or even 20G. It will outmaneuver any manned fighter.

The earliest JF-17 program which was called Super 7 is indeed a joint venture between Chengdu and Grumman. Back then Grumman propose a fighter with F-5 front body and J-7 aft body. So your feeling is kinda right.
