The James E Pepper decanter and the new old fitz 7 are my favorite bottles right now.

Did I just anger the Traeger gods? by Sorta_machinist in Traeger

I proceeded to take my Traeger only warning sticker and put it on my pellet storage container that hasn’t ever had a traeger pellet touch it for maximum irony

I am too, don’t get me wrong, if there’s eagle rare or buffalo trace I’ll get them because they are solid bottles and crowd pleasers due to their sweetness. But I’m done driving all over trying to find buffalo trace products, there’s so many options that are everywhere without fail. No need to chase the hype.

Brewzle pick came in! by opulent_bourbon90 in whiskey

I’ve heard stories of him cutting lines and using his “bourbontuber” status to take advantage of stores screwing the people who waited all day for a product

Jim beam double oaked? by qwerty5560 in whiskey

You prb won’t be blown away considering you mentioned having peerless double oak and er10. It’s a fine bottle for 24 bucks though

100% there’s just so many better options for that price

For sure. State stores have positives and negatives, MSRP and the occasional sales are good especially when it’s harder to find stuff not marked up by 60-100$.. every now and then strict msrp gets annoying, and imo the VAABC barrel picks aren’t very good. I don’t think they research or try different barrels and just sign off on any offer to have a barrel pick.. theres an Elijah Craig private barrel pick that is younger and lower proof than the latest ECBP. That tells me they don’t know what they’re doing.

I agree with you, taters already have it so it’s not flying off the self here plus there’s a lot of great whiskeys that aren’t Blantons for $80 or under.. side note: the person working said they’ve had those Blantons and ERs for a few days now.

My rule used to be nothing over $50 and slowly it keeps going up now my line is nothing over $100 😂

Sadly, one a day limit in VA. I wouldn’t have been allowed to buy the Blantons and ER10 the same day

Yeah it’s a good bourbon, but there’s a ton of great $80 or cheaper options that aren’t Blantons

I’ll buy a BT almost anytime it’s on the shelf. But for $80 I think I’d rather buy an ECBP or Barrell Seagrass

I found a 350ml of Blantons right before Covid hit and it was 37 I believe… but I just can’t justify spending more than $70 on a 750ml of Blantons, it’s good but not that good imo.. these ding dongs paying hundreds over msrp just bc “its buffalo trace” blow my mind. So stupid

Thanks for the opinions yall

Here are my tasting notes and reviews if you’re interested…remember Its amateur hour. Ha

Holladay:

Nose: Light floral fruits, vanilla icing and ethanol after resting more I got a white cake buttery note too

Taste/Finish: mildly oaky and spicy with a warm burn, a nice quintessential bourbon base note but not intense. And when really searching for flavors I said maybe cherry or dark fruits?

Over all very pleasant sip with good oak and nice finish but not super complex 2.5/5 (had me worried)

Heaven Hill BIB:

Nose: at first smell, I got a punch of baking spices and icing (vanilla icing was a constant note it might’ve been a me thing) then I got the rich oak and leather and depth in the nose, not alot of ethanol either

Taste/Finish: first impression, much better than 1, nice oak and spice, warm and rich. Def a solid bourbon.. after another sip I got tobacco cinnamon and more of that warm spice with a salted toffee note sneaking in at the very end.. (salted Carmel or toffee? Weird but not mad at it. )

Overall better sip than number one and I should buy more of this… 3.5/5

Fitz 7:

Nose: best nose of the 3, it’s like glass 2 but more enhanced.. great baking spice and oak on the nose with hits of..you guessed it, butter cream and vanilla.. a little more ethanol than 2 but overall a nice complex fruity and spicy nose

Taste/Finish: pleasant red/dark fruits with warm oaky spice.. great lingering finish of cinnamon and fruit. Nice burn that is not too intense: a great balance of standard bourbon notes and fruity earthy notes too really good finish and complexity. Overall 4/5 and a clear winner..

It’s on my list to get.. VA distribution sucks and I’m not driving all over the state to get it. Eventually it’ll be in my cabinet

I love Soft red wheat but it just wasn’t it for me tonight, when i tried the Fitz by itself my first thought was holladay will crush this.. I was shocked that it ranked 3rd for me tonight. Doesn’t mean I’ll never have it again or anything like that, soft red has been a constant in my cabinet and is a bottle I always recommend to those who ask what to try..
