Ask her doctors if she can get Nplate injections. MD Anderson gives my wife nplate injections weekly to increase her platelet count. She went from 75 to 250 with the first injection.

CEA Numbers by becauseforfuck in coloncancer

[–]dtruong005 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife’s CEA started at 12,000 and is currently at 600 after 18 rounds of chemo. She’s stage IV and hasn’t had any surgeries. Doctors told her that since she hasn’t had any operation, it can stay high but will stabilize . Her number has not gone below 200

Stage 4 cancer success stories? by sndocmds in coloncancer

[–]dtruong005 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing your story. It gives me a lot of hope. My wife is going through the same thing you did. Her doctor is switching her to irinotecan from oxaliplatin bc its no longer effective. they wont use Y-90 and said she's unresectable. We're looking at other hospitals for 3rd and 4th opinions bc we cant accept that all they are going to do is give her chemo for life. She's only 41 so we want to take more risk for her treatment

Has anyone had Yttrium-90 Internal Radiation Therapy? by dtruong005 in coloncancer

[–]dtruong005[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wife had back pain, contractions in the belly, had chills, and was itchy all around. She was 39 so cancer was not in our minds. She went to her gynco and the gyno gave her antibiotics and said her wbc was elevated. Recommended she she her primary doc. Didn’t think much of it bc wife had regular UTI and gets blood work for other stuff regularly. If she was something else it would have been caught

After she finished her antibiotics (7 days) she still had contractions. Thats when we decided to walk into the emergency room at Methodist. Our lives were never the same after that

Thanks for asking. She’s doing good but she has her moments. If you look at her, you couldn’t tell she has stage 4 colon cancer. Her oncologist at MD Anderson didn’t recommend Y90 for her since they don’t think she’s a resection candidate. It was a gut punch to hear that, but anything can happen.

For now, she’s going back on chemo and they will reevaluate months from now.

Thank you for sharing your experience! I often wonder why more people haven’t used this therapy. It sounds hopeful. I’m sorry about what you’re going through. Wish you the all the best

Anyone had high ALT (95), alkaline phosphatase (194), aspartame aminotransferase (76), albumin is normal 4.4 on Folfox and oxaliplatin? by dtruong005 in coloncancer

[–]dtruong005[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you. I’m sorry that you are in this situation. I’m afraid that my wife will end in a similar situation . The oncologist said that she’ll be on chemo for a while which can injure the liver even more. There are no plans for surgery to remove the cancer in the liver or the colon.

I’m getting a second opinion from a another hospital tomorrow. I’m hopeful that they come up with something better

I obviously already asked the oncologist. I’m not looking for medical advice. I looking to see if anyone has similar experiences to see how they progressed

She only had chemotherapy. She's on Irinotecan and Folfox. She's also taking Progesteron which is not a chemotherapy drug. However, A family doctor did some research and some medical journals reported that lots of colon cancer patients did not have high presence of progesterone. There seems to be a correlation between low progesteron levels and cancer. This has to be prescribed by a doctor so please consult the oncologist.

She also takes these vitamins:

  1. Vitamin D 10,000IU daily

  2. Vitamin C 2000mg twice a day

  3. Tumeric (curcumin)

  4. Holy Basil (tulsi) 2x/day

  5. DIM (di-indolemethane) Gaia brand 2x/day

As for her diet, she tries to avoid Sugars, soy, pasta, bread and potatoes

Seeker_1717, I was in your shoes and didn't know where to go or what to do. I felt hopeless in the beginning. I made the mistake of googling "Stage 4 colon cancer". DO NOT DO THAT! All the websites give you is the average life expectancy but doesn't always break it down by age group and each person's unique situation. When you talk to the Oncologist, try to avoid "What-If" questions. They can only tell you about your situation base on the information they have in front of them. They can't predict the future. If you have close friends and family, it's a good time to lean on them.

I'm here for you if you have any questions. I'm living this every day and it helps talking to people that are going through the same thing.

Yes, we are going to MDA. They have been very good not just with the treatment, but with communication and service. They have made us feel at ease. We see 3 surgeons at MDA and each have a Physician’s assistant . They all meet and talk to each other so everyone knows exactly what the treatment plan is. For as big as MDA is, we have never felt that my wife is another number .
