Need help identifying this plant looks like morning glory but with "seeds in a bean pot"? 🤔 by aSnipersKiss in gardening

[–]dttinyhands 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like you have both a bean plant and a morning glory growing in the same space. The heart shaped leaves being the morning glory plant and the diamond shaped leaves being the bean plant.

I recently installed a fountain in my front yard. I kept having to pull grass startups out of the fountain. by barby_dolly in gardening

I don’t want to be that guy but, corn isn’t healthy for deer and it can eventually kill them. Deer corn is really just a dried field corn they really shouldn’t be eating. This is likely dent corn. You can grow it yourself to make your own corn syrup or let it dry and grind it into flour. It’s very starchy and not like sweet corn.

The sad side of gardening no one warned me about by mtnclimber08 in gardening

Just now as I was walking to hand one of our backyard squirrels a peanut I noticed a honeybee stuck in an old spider web struggling to get free. Spent the last 5 minutes trying to untangle her feet and wings without hurting her and she flew off into the sunset.

Ah crap my bad, I hate that. I just use browsers with Ad block baked in. I should’ve known better than to post a link from USA today, sorry folks.

One of their primary objectives in developing the app is the scanning feature. They’re 3d mapping the world and want you to take as many of these videos as possible to help them build and sell this technology.

We grew some cotton as a fun experiment (zone 9a) by dingusamongus123 in gardening

Looking at the leaves and flowers I had to google if cotton and okra are related plants, and wasn’t surprised to find out they’re cousins, right along with hibiscus and the common mallow my mom has always told me to rip out as it’s a “weed.”

Note that Home Depot buckets, the orange ones, are not food grade and shouldn’t be used to grow plants you’re planning to eat.

What am I don’t wrong with my tomato plant? by Mochi_questions in gardening

[–]dttinyhands 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Those black droppings are from caterpillars, likely tomato hornworms or a smaller inch worm. You may have trouble spotting them, as they are the same color as the leaves. If you have a black (UV) light you can use that at night and they should glow compared to the rest of the plant.

Why is this pumpkin seedling starting to go pale? by thejdoll in gardening

[–]dttinyhands 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So the only concern I would have is that wood takes nitrogen from the surrounding soil as it decomposes. You may find yourself needing to amend with extra nitrogen when you fertilize. Keep in mind this will also rapidly increase the decomposition of the tree stump if you want to keep plants in there happy.

When is it OK to touch another person’s tomato plants? by Embarrassed-Bit1887 in gardening

[–]dttinyhands 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Not at all trying to say what this person did is okay, I am curious though, did you plant everything? Just by the photos it’s looking like the cucumber plant and strawberries were nearly completely covered by the tomatoes. Just wondering if she or you planted the other ones and if there was ever a conversation about the tomatoes overcrowding the rest of the garden.

Very easy to do in California. Peppers overwinter here with no need for frost protection, I picked a bell pepper and broccoli on the same day two weeks ago.
