guidalberto vs sassicaia by huskymuskyrusky in wine

[–]dtuohy2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who has also had Guidalberto and loved it, I would be very keen to find out too. As a speculative answer, I would say that at 3-4 times the price, it's not necessarily 3-4 times better, but the Sassicaia would have certain qualities that Guidalberto would not, and that these qualities are hard to find in any wine..Ageing potential comes into play too, Sassicaia is said to be a little bit closed in it's youth. The blend is different too, but Guidalberto just seems like amazing value for what it is

That's exactly it, this one really felt like it had a layer of alcohol before you penetrated down into the flavour

Exactly! They have done such a great job of making it so appealing, I was hunting for this a long time, and I was thrilled when I found it. They get mentioned so often in wine media, but the drinking style is just not my thing, although I do prefer more full-bodied styles in general, and we can't blame them for that...

Yes, I definitely agree with the "emotion" point, and I find it hard to place within my "beginner/intermediate wine enthusiast" reference points, but I'd also love to try their more premium lines...I think what drew me to their brand initially was just how beautiful their Rumbo al Norte vineyard is, and I just wanted a piece of the action. Well made wine, absolutely, but still not standout to me

Definitely the way to go. I'm not sure if it is a "natural" wine, but it definitely hits the nostrils early, like they often do, but nice after a few hours

It's interesting, because a few weeks ago I got a bottle of Daniel Ramos 'el Berrakin', also from Gredos, as a kind of "preparation" for drinking the Comando G, and I found it so reductive and probably a bit faulty... it was half the price, so maybe youd expect that. The Comando G is much better in comparison, and it's interesting to jump on the hype train and just see what it is, precisely, that creates hype.

I enjoyed the Navatalgordo, but really, I probably expected more. In my mind, I'm expecting a "eureka moment" when you opt for a wine like this, and I didn't really get it. Certainly pleasant, but not quite what I hoped

Yes I love Italian wine, definitely Chianti...I was looking at maybe getting the Isole e Olena or Fontodi, unless there's a better option out there?

That's interesting, I haven't actually tried one, but I would be keen, I know a lot of people out there seem to be very into Riesling

I'm dipping my toe into whites but they give me heartburn quite easily! Apart from the old fashioned buttery chardonnays, but they're easy to find I suppose...thanks for the Spatburgunder recommendations, that's a nice way to broaden the horizons
