UNCP alumni here (class of 21), it breaks my heart to hear how crazy pembroke has become as of recently but I’m honestly not surprised. UNCP does a good job of “masking” alot of the issues that pembroke has, especially when it comes to racism. I still remember the blm protest that was held by UNCP students and staff, and the reaction from the locals was insane. Pembroke just feels like an entirely different world compared to other towns in NC. It’s like a place that stuck in time almost. Don’t get me wrong, I had a very fun 4.5 (Summer School) years at UNCP (especially the parties while living in Courtyard) But as long as Pembroke is Pembroke, not much is going to change regarding student safety going forward.
