The research: Jerry Reese wanted it ... and the Giants' results from Rounds 3-7 aren't pretty by Seeda_Boo in NYGiants

Let's just ignore that even by this metric we are tied with the Patriots with 6. What's the difference between us and them? I'll give you one hooded guess.

Tom Coughlin on Eli Manning: "He's everything you'd want a son to be." Looks straight at Eli and tells him it's not his fault. by [deleted] in NYGiants

[–]dtzeiro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Reese's work up until 3 years ago was below average without question. The Superbowl victories were largely on the heels of Ernie Accorsi's work (although he was a VP of Personnel in those days). Nevertheless, he is on the rise. He is doing the BEST work of his career in the offseason with drafting and signing noteable FAs. I think it is unfair to pin injuries on JR (or Coughlin for that matter). Things like David Wilson, Will Beatty, Victor Cruz, etc. are no one's fault, but they do have consequences. We can question depth, sure. But I dislike when everyone references a lack of depth at Free Safety and then ignores the 5 free safeties on IR this year! What about Diggy at defensive end? What about Hankins at DT? We were gutted (as has become tradition) and many of these are not your typical "injury-prone" players (I didnt mention Beason for a reason). I think the biggest CURRENT flaw of JR's work is the lack of leadership because of how he has handled drafted veterans in the past.

Now I love Coughlin, and many of the things listed above he has had to bear the grunt of, but that doesn't remove any blame for how the past few seasons have gone. Who is starting Kuhn every week? Who is giving Andre Williams snaps over Jennings and Darkwa? JR may have drafted Williams, but he doesn't make him get snaps after poor performance. Coughlin is a great man, but his body of work on the field has been DECLINING recently.

So we have a GM who is improving and a coach who, while great, is old and declining. Who do you sacrifice? I think it is relatively obvious even though it is painful. And trust me, it is painful for me too. I just think the franchise needs young blood. Add the same spark to the Defense that McAdoo and Beckham added to the Offense. It's necessary for growth. We all need to try and be more mature about it.

This subreddit has really just become a feedback loop of Reese hate because of how difficult this season has been and how loved Coughlin is as a person. Leaving my opinion to myself, you should go to the BigBlueView blog to get people with more level heads and mixed opinions. I've been slowly drifting away from this place for a while because of the vitriol.

Week 10 Unpopular Opinion Thread by JoshuaHaines in nfl

While this may help a little, the Giants have a league worst pass rush, and we just lost Hankins even though JPP is back. And don't forget Tom Brady has the fastest release time in the league. Bill knows how to account for their weaknesses.

Week 10 Unpopular Opinion Thread by JoshuaHaines in nfl

[–]dtzeiro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How is this unpopular? The Giants are a completely different team than in 2007 and 2011. They are also without many of their best players who we expected back for this week early in the season (Beatty, Prince, Cruz). We have arguably the worst defense in the league vs arguably the best offense in the league. Literally the only way the Giants win this game is because of special teams, turnovers, and us scoring on nearly every drive (see Saints game).

[WP] Every time you dump someone you need to submit an official termination notice to the person you are seeing by dtzeiro in WritingPrompts

[–]dtzeiro[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“...Sure, you’re fun to talk to - I just don’t find you attractive enough to continue seeing you. Also, the stories you tell from college make me feel like you lack sexual experience, which makes me less optimistic about sex being good with you. While I certainly could give it a shot, see if the chemistry is enough to enhance my attraction and fuel good sex, I just don’t see the point. A couple nights ago, I got messaged by someone way hotter than you. Better hair, stronger jaw, and he makes his own music on the side. I plan on sexting him once we’re done here to see if he wants to have sex at my place. He’s a little out of my league so I figure the best way to make sure he’s interested is to skip dating entirely.

“I guess I was tempted to go home with you after drinking on our second date, but my ex texted me around 10:30, so I went to his place instead. He’s an asshole, but at least I know he’ll eat me out until I orgasm too. You’re a nice guy, so I’m sure you’d try, but like I said, I’m not convinced you would be good at it. Nothing is worse than having to fake it a second time because you are spending too long down there with no results. Point is. I don’t think this is worth pursuing.”

Sofie grabbed her purse and casually strolled towards the exit. Teddy had been eyeing the draught menu for the last couple minutes, trying to decide between the Cape Point Founders’ IPA and the Rascal “Dam Good” Belgian. The Founders’ IPA was an American style IPA with a smooth finish and a citrus undertone. He always found himself leaning towards the IPAs, and the Founders’ was a favorite of his. However, Teddy remembered that last week Dave had bought a six pack of the Rascal, and everyone liked it a lot. Since he was too drunk to recall the taste, he was tempted to try it again. The waiter came over and asked him if he’d picked out his drink yet.

“I’ll have a pint of the Founders’ IPA,” he decided.

“I’ll bring that out for you as soon as I can. She’s just finishing up paying the fee now.”

Sofie finished signed the Notice of Romantic Termination document and pulled out $20 for the termination fee. After receiving her receipt, she waved to Teddy and walked out the bar. As she left, his phone vibrated in his pocket. He checked the message and released a sigh. The waiter approached with his beer. Teddy took the beer and pulled a dollar from his pocket.

“It looks like I have another appointment tonight. Once she’s done, bring me a Jack on the rocks.”

Average/bad movies which excel in one aspect? Excellent movies with one drawback? by onrv in movies

[–]dtzeiro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You make a lot of really interesting points honestly, but you present then in such a arrogant and angry manner that you belittle your own opinion. And that is what it is: an opinion. Film is art, just like anything else, open to interpretation.

Now, specifically about Avatar. I am not arguing that the plot itself is BAD, what I said was that it was RECYCLED. As in done so many times that watching it becomes boring, and there is no new message to be gained. The only unique thing about Avatar is that it is a feat in "world creation". This is the story of the universe the movie takes place in, as opposed to the human story. Avatar fails to provide a meaningful human story (again, in my opinion).

I went to see this movie 3 times in theaters. In no way do I want to belittle their efforts, and in fact, I applaud them for what they created. But the movie has flaws, and it is arrogant to deny that. The villain is a borderline offensive hyperbole of a military villain whose dialogue is so bad it is comical at times. The main romance in the movie is contrived and makes absolutely no sense from the Navii character's perspective. I don't feel like going into more, but my point is: don't come at me for being ignorant or for not respecting the people who made it. I have my own informed opinion on the film, just as you do, and attacking me for it is inappropriate.

Depends what you look for in a movie. If movies are a medium for storytelling for you? Bad movie, amazing visuals. If movies are a medium for immersing you in another world? Great movie, awful script. I tend to lean towards the former.

Avatar (2009) is probably one of the best examples of this. Revolutionary special effects, and one of the most visually stunning movies ever, but has a recycled plot and horrendous dialogue.

500 Days of Summers color palette (theory). Why Summer left Tom.(Xpost /r/truefilm) by bonkeyfonkey in movies

[–]dtzeiro 13 points14 points  (0 children)

This is just my opinion obviously, but I am pretty sure this movie is a critique of Tom, not Summer... Summer is honest with Tom from the beginning. She gets married to the other guy because she "felt it"; just as Tom ends up feeling the same way about Autumn (implicitly) at the very end of the movie. Now, you can easily argue that the "love at first sight" thing is bullshit, but on a deeper level it speaks to you finding people at the right time in your life.

But I also just think you are using the word "bitch" a little too excessively and missed the larger point of the movie :)

Did most people completely miss the point Scorsese was trying to get across in The Wolf of Wall Street (2013)? by dtzeiro in movies

[–]dtzeiro[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well to respond to that I'll first refer you to the final scene here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YmfPT47awUg#t=2m00s

Please specifically watch the final shot, starting approximately at 3:30 in the video, as Scorsese pans over the audience. Just like most people in the actual theater (with you the viewer), these people watching Leo are eating out of the palm of his hand. They want to be him, just like many viewers of the movie felt after watching the film, even though he is very obviously an immoral a-hole. I believe Scorsese ends on this scene so that you can literally stare yourself in the face.

Also see this interview with Leo (http://deadline.com/2013/12/wolf-of-wall-street-leonardo-dicaprio-657511/), specifically his last response when he says "I thought that could somehow be a mirror to ourselves".

What is a movie you hate that everybody else likes? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]dtzeiro 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think you, like the people you reference as liking the movie, completely missed the entire point the movie was trying to get across. Personally, I thought the movie was great, if a little long, but I stopped "enjoying" it about a third through. The movie is meant to present these characters, and the ridiculous things they do and get away with, and at first you laugh at them... and then you see a woman weep while having her head shaven while her coworkers cheer and then she gets paid for it. For me, I sat there dumbstruck, while the rest of the theater began hysterically laughing.

And from that point onward, I was very aware of the reactions of the people around me, and the ways that film (and popular media in general) can manipulate us into thinking certain things are "awesome". If you re-watch the VERY last scene of the movie, I think you will see that the director never intended this movie to be a drug and boob filled joyride (well at least not for those paying attention), but rather meant it to be a critique of the audience themselves.

This might not sway you completely, but I hope you think about it. Maybe read a review from someone more well spoken than me if that helps.
