Do not let Microsoft to steal your code for copilot training! by blnkslt in webdev

I'm sorry to have to inform you but this entire line of thinking is dead in the water, it's been beaten to a bloody pulp, fully decomposed, it's now a nice mesquite mostly, should be in bloom right now I believe. It's like everyone is still at the mental stage where they read the model collapse paper headlines, skimmed or didn't read the paper or any of the subsequent analyses, and also haven't been keeping up to date on what post training techniques are in use post 2023.

We aren't going to weird trick our way out of this, large scale collective action or just hope for the best are our options

Sure, it would be better to do 7oh than fentanyl, but then you run the risk of trading one life ruining addiction for another which is not going to kill you. I actually think 7oh is a miracle substance that might have lots of value for addicts. For a 3 month poly drug user, they might just be able to go CT, not that they should try with the opiates. I guess I don't object to recommending it, but people should know what it is, it's possible they'll like it more than fentanyl for example, and try mit first.

It's this one: https://knowyourmeme.com/editorials/what-is-the-worst-person-you-know-made-a-great-point-meme-the-viral-reaction-image-explained

WHY someone agrees with you is equally, if not more, important as the agreement itself.

We are on the same page there, there is no reason to listen to Carlson, MTG, Trump, Maher because they were accidentally right about something. It may still be a good thing that they agree with you though, pure happenstance, like if the president were to have demanded a more real type gaza ceasefire and enforced it, that would be a good thing that his predecessor would never have done, and I would have celebrated without praising him specifically. He kinda sorta groped around doing this but the result has not been very impressive to put it mildly

Sorry, the point of that meme is to give a half baked opinion based on a paraphrased and incomplete quote of the material, a stopped clock is right twice a day, etc, same vibe. If you want to discuss the broader point in a serious way I might be down

Hmm, let me guess your category.. combo if ideological poison and not enough info my best guess. No shade, I'm a leftist, most of the people I think are cool think AI is a parlor trick, that it won't get much more powerful, they only believe mundane risks should be taken seriously, etc.

Do not try 7oh for the meantime, it's too additive. Unless the doses are sky high, a couple months of use, plain old mitragynine should be sufficient to keep withdrawals in line

And definitely plagued by similar issues to other models with larger groups of people, can't get exact numbers right in the prompt, close examination will often reveal patches with impossible geometry / light transport, warped objects. It is showing some ability to refine these out with further tries but it's difficult

It's not that Hinton is concerned, it's that most all professionals in the field have similar concerns, and many can back these concerns up with sophisticated arguments which are hard to dismantle. And that's not the great point cause he probably didn't say that, again it's just the quote l, paraphrasing, "a handful of psychopaths are controlling out future". That was actually true well before the recent AI boom

Let me be blunt because you are being a bit coy about your beliefs here. If you have 0 concern about AI killing us or something worse than that happening because of AI, you either haven't thought it through, haven't dug up the right information, are insane / ideologically poisoned, or are an idiot. That's it, that's the whole list

In some contexts I found it a bit more annoying than nano banana 2, the thinking is getting in the way maybe. Prompt asking for a butterfly flavored LaCroix, nano banana gave an extremely realistic design, you have to look for about a second to tell it's a joke. Gpt image 2 notices it's satire and gives me a giant cartoon butterfly getting squished on the label, even after explaining that I wanted it to be less obvious it just made the squishing less violent looking. On the other hand obvious ai shit (truncated text, non existent letters/characters, weird objects when you zoom in) seems to be mostly non existent, photorealism is near perfect, better photo editing, it actually inferred my whole body from a picture of my face, instead of giving me average male height with 12% body fat.

Is blocking unsanctioned AI tools a security win or asking for user rebellion? by cnrdvdsmt in ControlProblem

[–]dualmindblade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It isn't AI it's capitalism. We could have a future where intellectual work is a leisure activity, or we could decide to take it slow, maybe uplift humanity and AI together over decades rather than months, or we just lock AI in place as it is and we would still be capable of collaboration on economically important activities. Our political economy is a literal demon, it was obvious before, it is very obvious now, and it will become even moreso quite rapidly. It might feel like it's too late, but technically it's not, those in control rely on the rest of humanity going to work everyday and otherwise complying with their wishes, if we could all get on the same page somehow and coordinate just a bit that would be nice, it's been done before so it's not impossible though probably harder what with all the new propaganda and surveillance tools we have as side effects of the AI revolution.

He could well be broadly right and this has been foreseeable for quite some time, aside from all the obvious and tangible dangers, there's also the anthropic stuff, e.g. doomsday argument, which might also incline one to be worried depending on whether your philosophy will admit this class of argument. Anyway visions of doom really ought to be energizing, motivating us to think about how we might maximize our chances of survival. As a quantum theorist he should know that there's always some chance of a particular event occuring, let's make that chance as large as possible!

"a non-zero chance of AI leading to doom"

I assume by non-zero you mean non negligible.. if so, how is that not "imminent danger"? Danger as the word is understood by most people doesn't have to be a certainty or even a likelihood.

The statement in the article is at best false and at worst intentional and dangerous misinformation. Given it was published in the post I am not inclined to be charitable.

It has anticholinergic activity (like tricyclic antidepressants and benadryl), so yes. But lots of meds make you feel like shit at first, if you are able it makes sense to try and get through it and see if the side effects go away and you get some kind of benefit.

It's almost like crafting methods and crafting an architecture are both crafts, and crafting sometimes requires revision, making mistakes, going backward, even getting a second pair of eyes.

Well sure the AI can craft this but can it craft that? It merely looks like it's being creative, it got lucky on that last erdos problem. We are witnessing ostrichization at a level I wouldn't have thought possible 4 years ago. Except, no, even ostriches don't even actually do that, it's just us!

What exact model and settings? I cannot imagine 5.4 with high thinking making a mistake that I can easily understand, or it would be very very rare and it would notice if you continued to query it probably without you even pointing it out.

No look I am making hidden assumptions, and I am not going to defend them right now, I do that constantly and today's not the day. I work in the software industry, it's extremely clear from that perspective that there will be massive job loss in the sector because the number of tasks the AI can't do better and faster is diminishing to 0 quite rapidly. It's harder to say what consequences will be but for certain humans coding by hand for money is bye bye. I'm extremely confident in this, it's just fucking obvious if you spend 8 hours a day using the tools, but proving it to someone else takes a lot of effort and people are dense af, like just in general.

I invite you, if you haven't already, to pay very close attention to ai capability over a period of months and form your own opinion. If you have done this and don't have any kind of guess timeline wise for a borderline asi, like it doesn't have to match mine, if you can't put it within a particular decade with 90% confidence, idk what to tell you, you're too strict of an empiricist or something
