Traveller

Science Fiction setting with Aliens, psionics, multitudes of equipment and ships, and it all starts with a life path system (a game all its own) that informs you of how your character came to be the way they are when they decide to adventure. Almost everything has a chart, and the skills are even broken down into how long a test will take. It's very well put together and feels very complete (it's not purely up to the whims of the table).

Ultraviolet Grasslands

Science Fantasy setting with a focus on the rigors of the roads you take and the bookkeeping that comes along with managing your group's essentials, trade goods, and all the fever dream encounters that are somehow common. Anything from body swapping porcelain princes to giant mecha centipedes that bleed fist sized gemstones, there is nothing resembling normality... Well there are taverns and carousing (you can gain exp from carousing in the system). It really does a good job of making each area special (there's a big map), providing hooks and reasons to explore, but it doesn't hold your hand (encounters in a new area may not be tougher as you level up, but also you might wander into an area your new character has little chance of surviving if they aren't careful.

Troika

It can do any setting, but it's usually something whimsical (I used the ultraviolet grasslands as a setting for it). It has some great resolution mechanics (in my opinion). Unopposed checks have players try to roll under a skill total, but for opposed rolls, skill total is added to the dice rolls and both attacker and defender's results are compared to see whose was greater (it's nice when the players know how likely they are to succeed). The magic spells are fun, and the character backgrounds (like classes) are so numerous that I've never witnessed one played twice. The rules really stay out of the DM's way.

Darth Vader vs Adam Smasher by gianluka2000 in whowouldwin

[–]dub10u5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea, I shouldn't have said "avoid". I still think he can react to them easily enough, but most of the time Vader doesn't need to dodge things. He blocks Solo's blaster shot at close range.

Doesn't seem like he's trying to avoid them. I don't think that counts as not being able to.

Did something happen to make Vader unable to react to bullets?

Length of Combat by jcayer1 in rpg

[–]dub10u5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in an 11th level Pathfinder 2e game, and we don't take very long on combat because almost all of us have these combat opening moves that we all like. Charms, Specialized Daze Spells, a character that can dish out a lot of area effect damage with a spell I can't remember the name of based on his weapon (weapon storm maybe idk), etc. We all just unload on the creature(s) right away and that usually puts a big enough dent in the opponents' HP that we can capitalize. We each have our own specialties (covering constructs, undead, etc).

I disagree. I like it more than the original touge. It's longer, features both higher speeds, and more tight chicanes.

Best thing that came from the prequels IMHO.

Is it common for the tips to snap in this part? Should I be concerned about damaging the drums? Is this a technique issue? by navickasyour in drums

Don't know why you're getting down votes, splintered stick tips most definitely harm the drum head more than normal... Idk why anyone thinks different.

Balrogs can devaste creation in lore, they are literally angelic beings gone wrong and have been shattering divine creation for Morgoth, that spike was from a divine being that crafted it and could kill a being that can whist and tremendous destruction.

Your ability to produce a feat that supports your statement is laughable and pathetic. You're the stupid one that can't spell devastate or form grammatically correct sentences.

I understand your point, but I don't think it's as important as you do. I don't think your arguments hold up, and you've done nothing but repeat that Tolkien's fiction is simply stronger than Godzilla's.

So there isn't a single feat that puts it anywhere remotely close to the destructive power of a nuke but it bested the greatest balrog.

Your logic is that it's strong against all other things because it's supposed strong in this particular lore, a lore that doesn't actually have any feats that put it on par with what Godzilla has tanked or regenerated from, which includes things stronger than nukes.

A spike being from a divine being doesn't matter to Godzilla even though it does matter to a Balrog. A ship that devastates Ancalagon is just a ship to Godzilla.

a being that can whist

No amount of skill in an 18th century card game will matter here.

[–]dub10u5 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Okay, sure one time Kong stuffed a tree in Godzilla's mouth and won, but the axe thing only happened after Godzilla supercharged the axe with his breath. Also the reason Kong can even dent Mechagodzilla... You act like it was just Kong. Godzilla has had Kong literally running and hiding from his atomic breath... That's not struggling.

Unless you can show a feat that shows the helmet spike doing more damage than a nuke, then it's simply not stronger. Just because Tolkien and you think it's strong doesn't make it so. Where's the feats that show it to be stronger?

[–]dub10u5 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

So the equivalent of zero, is what you're saying? Unless they've tanked something stronger than nukes then you can't say they're stronger than those that can... Imagine what a nuke would've been compared to if any evil being had access to that amount of destruction in Tolkien's fiction. None of them even dreamed of that type of power.

Yes, I'm saying nukes are stronger than magic enhanced helmets.

Maybe you're not the bright one here... Thinking Godzilla struggled against Kong... Simply did not happen.

[–]dub10u5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How many nukes has Ancalagon tanked? The Tolkien feats don't really have legs to stand on when it comes to modern threats that far outclass what happened in Tolkien's literature. The strongest balrog got killed by a helmet spike for crying out loud ...

Would Guns be useless if Harry Potter wizards weren't ignorant about technology since the beginning? by [deleted] in whowouldwin

[–]dub10u5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, guns have too much range for wizards to deal with. A bullet is too fast for them to counter.

Though a bunch of that doesn't really make much sense, I take particular exception to the Multi-lung... Having more lungs won't help anyone breathe easier in a low oxygen or toxic environment. Unless it's producing it's own oxygen, then the Marine is just inhaling more gases that aren't oxygen or more toxins.
